Won't fastening the inverter to the edge of the panel cause a twisting torque on that edge? Do other panel companies manufacture panels to the required dimensions?
It's not noticeable to any degree if it does. That is how it's done when there are no rails to mount them to. Also, yes. There are many 72/144 cell panels, by various manufacturers, that are ~39" wide. You must check the panel specs to verify this before purchasing the racks and I ask customers which panels they are using to make sure they are compatible. The Jinko panels I have in stock work perfectly. The trick is to make sure the racks are perfectly aligned along the top, at the groove.
