Johnny is basically every millennial in the dating world in 2021: easily turned off, assumes the next person is better only to be easily turned off again. He, like the rest of us, doesn’t want to deal with even the slightest thing that doesn’t fit a finely crafted list of unrealistic traits we want in a partner. Just…y’all pray for us lol

Angel, you should have watched all of Unfiltered. The editing in this show is crazy. They left out so much context with Zack. That morning, Michaela texted and asked Zack if he was dropping the dog off at daycare. He replied yes. He even let her know the night b4 what he was going to do. I’m under the belief that she KEPT texting him to keep a minute by minute tab on him and he got annoyed and didn’t reply anymore. She needs SERIOUS therapy because she has proven TWICE that she’s a liar. She lied about not being the type the cuss you out, and lied about not leaving when mad. So it’s not hard to believe that she lied about him letting her know where he was.
Wow, didn't catch unfiltered these are serious red flags. In marriage you must be willing to "fight fair".
@@portiab5839 Yup! If what Zack said in Unfiltered is the truth, Michaela needs serious help. I understand the emotional trauma she's still going through with the loss of her father, but I don't find that to necessarily be a justification for her actions. If you know you're emotionally scarred from the death of your father, then you're aware enough to seek help instead of signing up for a show like this and taking it out on your stranger husband.
I promise you all are better than the actual show.

I think Michaela has issues that go beyond the death of her father. I think she's always been an explosive person, and she's using the "abandonment by her dad" as an excuse to double down on her behavior. I only say this because my father passed a few months ago, and I don't know if I would use "abandoned" to describe it. Maybe I'm wrong, and that's how she's processing her grief, as abandonment, but that excuse just feels off to me. I honestly think there's more to her actions. I guess we'll see...
Sorry for your loss. I lost my mom in 07, and I can’t even imagine trying to marry someone, let alone a stranger around that time, even a year or two after. I wasn’t emotionally stable and was all over the place. She needs therapy and time to heal if her new spouse leaving the house without telling her is triggering.
Ppl re not the same handle grief differently Harry and William handle the death of their mother differently he started acting out fought journalists in clubs was drinking too much until he met a woman who made him accountable Meghan he went to therapy. I also lost my father when I was 7 years old I miss him to this day. You cannot define some1 healing its their process I wish Pastor Cal would be counseling on a weekly basis unfortunately its a TV show they re doing it for ratings not marriages anymore. It would help Zack and Michaela to set boundaries on how to argue which lines not to to cross take a break cool off write her feelings down put things into perspective before she reacts. 😳
I partially agree with you, in that her father’s death may very well have triggered feelings of abandonment, maybe even based on something else. That explosive behavior, however, is a totally separate issue that has to be addressed!
I tend to agree with you. I read that Michaela's dad died recently. On Unfiltered, she said that her family started calling her Hurricane K when she was 15 or 16. If this is true, her blowups were happening long before her dad's death.

Zack has shared that he told Michaela the night before that he was taking the dog to the daycare AND he did reply when she texted him that morning. It may not have been immediately, but he overreacted in that situation. I understand her underlying trigger of abandonment from her dad’s death (been through it myself) but her reaction is alarming. And I can understand why Zack responded the way he did because he did communicate the plan with her. The only fault I give Zack is falling asleep and not coming to bed with her, but the man was probably still struggling with getting over COVID. Just because he texted negative doesn’t mean he wasn’t still fatigue. They both could have handled the situation better, but it’s a red flag for Michaela. For Zack it’s just ignorance from lack of experience dating and he doesn’t know her.

That’s how I see it. I don’t think Zack legit did ANYTHING wrong because there was no negative intentions around what he did. Also I feel like he should have been offered more grace for making an honest mistake . We gotta remember these ppl were very recently single and they have become accustomed to moving without alerting anyone. Instead of being met with grace her past trauma triggered her response. Still rooting for them though

I was disappointed with Johnny this episode with his logic of spending a couple of days at his home, and then having an issue with the way Bao shows excitement. Johnny wants love but doesn’t know how to love.

Well said! He has grown so accustomed to getting back on the dating app at the slightest hint of a turn off. I hope he’ll stop seeing red flags from Bao’s benign behavior like giddiness and excitement. I’m sure he wouldn’t enjoy a wife who couldn’t find joy in anything.
Ya'll really should try to watch all of Unfiltered because you missed a lot of the story. It's really apparent the Editors were trying to make Michaela NOT look as bad as she really was. On Unfiltered, Zach said that the night before, he TOLD Michaela he was taking the dog to the day care in the morning and Michaela told him he better NOT wake her up. So he made sure not to wake her up. (Yeah, he could have still left a note but he's new to relationships. He's trainable.) Also, he said Michaela texted him and asked "Are you at the daycare?" (so obviously she remembered and knew where he was) and he texted back "Yes". He said she never called him at all or texted him after that. It seems like something easy to verify, and it explains why Zach looked so shocked at Michaela's anger. The Editors clearly left Zach's explanations out because that would make Michaela's response even more outrageous!
Micheala just seems like the type of person that “puts 20 on 10”…. at the bachelorette party she was the extra turnt up one… at the wedding she was the overly giddy one just swooning all over being paired with Zach… during this episode, instead of calmly handling the situation she blows up & storms off. Her family called her “Hurricane Kaela” for a reason obviously. She needs to learn to moderate her emotions (all of them) a bit it seems she just does the most..,
Angel got the Zach story wrong. Everything happened the morning of. Zach put the dog to sleep in the next room in their shared apartment. He fall asleep and then later took the dog to daycare. Michaela was aware of this routine but he didn’t want to wake up and tell her that he was going to leave when he actually left. Though Zach should have ensured she knew, Michaela’s reaction did not match the offense.
I don’t understand why they not seeing that this girl needs full blown therapy. It is NOT Zachs job to take on her fathers role. He is her husband not her father. He can love and be with her through it but I think she’s expecting him to be exactly like her dad and that’s toxic. She also has anger issues from this episode and from previews I see to come. Zach said he did text her and she said he didn’t so now it’s a tit for tat. Either way Zach could have apologized and reassured her but her attitude is a turn off.

Michaela definitely overreacted. Her feelings are valid but the intensity of her response did not match what actually happened. She needs to get her anger under control it honestly scared me. And many people have lost their parents but they don’t behave like that. Zach could’ve communicated better, sure, but Michaela did not need to blow up like that regardless. Someone made a good point that if the roles were reserved and Zach got that angry we would all say he’s abusive. She’s giving very much “I hate you don’t leave me” behavior 😬
Plus in the uncut version, he said that he told her. So at this point, she way over overeacting 🙄...

I agree. He hasn’t learned how to handle dislikes/conflict. He’s just a runner. For him to be in his mid 30s and still have this type of behavior is a red flag IMO.
100%! He's a perfectionist. He probably thinks if he's the "perfect" person then maybe he'll be "worthy" of his father's love, not realizing that it wouldn't matter. His father left the family for reasons that had nothing to do with Johnny. Hope Johnny seeks therapy after this.

Johnny just doesn't like her, which is why he never pursued her in the past, he doesn't find her attractive but he does like her as an intellectual. And then the not bathing turned him all the way off and he just doesnt know how to come back from that.
I've been saying that since early in the season. Over a hundred dates but not one of them with Bao even though they run in the same circles? No ma'am. He 'ghosted' her because he wasn't interested then and he's still not interested now. He signed a contract so he'll put on a show 'til the end but he's not feeling it and he never has.
Johnny doesn't like anyone. He's had 100 first dates for a reason. I think the reason they never went out before is because Bao didn't initiate it. Johnny needs tons of affirmation. I think this giddiness that she shows is not attractive to him because he wants her to be more sexually assertive with him, thus affirming her attraction to him. I think so much of this stems from a lack of affirmation from his dad.

Johnny is mimicking his father. His dad leaves when things get difficult. What he did to Bao is what his father did to his mom & his siblings over & over again. This is abuse that turns into trauma. Sadly for Bao when someone tells you they are not attracted to you b/c you are being yourself is crushing. Zach was wrong for not leaving a note for Michaela but Michaela needs counseling on how to manage her emotions & therapy for grief. Brett & Ryan are not going to work b/c their core values are truly not the same. Rachel is not going to survive a marriage that dims her. Jose should plan for the future while saving for a big trip that Rachel would like once a year or every other year, that would be a compromise. Unfortunately Jose won't do that, plus he's way too nitpicky. Myrla & Gill are not going to work at all. They are not going to work. For Myrla to spend comfortably they way she does she should've invested in a home with a glam closest for all her designer items,, that would balance out but like TBTB host have said some don't aspire to be home owners. Finally MAFS expert,, casting crew & match makers should stop matching men with women that don't lineup with their core values & attraction, and please stop matching women with men that are not on their financial & emotional level. It feels and seems they don't care about these people.The good thing about this show is learning what not to do in your own relationship
They don't care. The only reason they cast it that way is for "good television" under the guise of "we think opposites attract". That is total bs because any sane adult would know the "opposite" components they are talking about are truly non-negotiable. I watched the 1st & 2nd seasons years ago when this show 1st came out and you can tell the difference. Back then it seemed they truly were trying to match people and conduct an experiment, not just make an entertaining reality show. If that was the case they would do more psychological testing/interviewing and realize some of these people really need help before being anyone's spouse. Smh.
I have hope for Brett and Ryan. These liberal whyte women have conservative father brothers and friends. They can mix and mingle with their fellow whytes no matter their background. Don't think they are so much on the side of you BLM activists.

Zach said that not only did they have a conversation the day before, they exchanged texts in the morning, which was why his reaction was SO big when she said he didn't tell her anything. He didn't say she was up when he left, nor did she. Cameras showed what time he left, and what time Michaela left, so in an hour, according to their time, and his, she decided he left all his stuff, and left for good? There is no rationalization for her behavior. We can clearly see a pattern forming. Her family didn't call her a hurricane because she has reasonable responses to things. I absolutely believe Zach did just what he said, as texts are easy enough to prove. If her behavior will always lead back to her dad's death, that is where her focus should be, not on trying to secure a husband. Casting failed once again.
I wish this info had been included in the show. After a 2-hour commitment, we shouldn’t have to watch an extra show to get this info

However, they have known each other a couple of days, so to believe Zach made up an elaborate plan, to stay away from the house for 2 whole hours, to make Micahela angry intentionally, is so ridiculous, it was easy for me to accept there was more to the story, and she was irrational. It's curious y some viewers so easily accepted her u tale. As soon as she said, "you never came back," it sealed the deal for me. If you leave the house, how would you know when he came back? Zach just confirmed what I was thinking anyway, because what she said happened never made sense to me.

I agree with many others that Angel got the Zack and Michaela story wrong. In the end, yes Zach could have left a note, even though he said in unfiltered that they talked about him taking the dog to daycare the next morning and to not wake her up. Her reaction was way over the top. And I don't buy that business about her feeling abandoned because her father died. Her sisters were warning him about Hurricaine Kay at the reception, which tells me that her behavior didn't just start after her father passed. She has been allowed to behave this way all her life and they just accept it rather than having her deal with whatever the underlying issues are. She most definitely needs to go to therapy for these issues and should never have gotten married until she's learned how to properly express her anger.
I’m giving it a “yes, and.” Grief can intensify your emotions and cause you to act out in unexpected ways. But, at least according to her family, this behavior is not unexpected; and Kay didn’t suggest otherwise either.
Also, recall that Michaela didn’t say initially that her reaction was a response to her grief - Pastor Cal offered that explanation and Kay latched on to it. Even though he was helpful in diffusing the tension in that moment, I wonder if the strategy to have Zack immediately move from feeling attacked to attending to her needs gave Zack a glimpse into what his future might look like. A future dynamic wherein whatever the situation, Zack is expected to navigate around Michaela’s emotions rather than meeting on equal footing.
Michaelas actions were unacceptable. If the roles were reversed everyone would be saying the behavior was concerning and toxic. Zach followed her instructions not to wake her.
I'm not watching this season but from snippets I have seen and comments I have read I think you are exactly right. Oooh weeee if he behaved like her he would be all kinds of dragged and dogged and canceled! And she fibs... didn't she tell his people that she doesn't scream and holler and whatnot??

Angel you rememberd the story wrong. Zack put the dog to sleep the night before in the other room) and didn't go back in their bed. He woke up in the morning to take the dog to the sitter, and didn't pick up for her. At the end of the day, Michelea acted like a whole fool and should have had a normal adult conversation. Not only did she leave but she cussed this man out...somoeone she has known for less than a week.

Angel hit the nail on the head at @18:24. Like how can the relationship recover from that. Glad you guys spent so much time on Bao and Johnny. Another point I would like to make, not sure if it's bias since I went to school with a bunch of Asians, Bao is seems more traditional, whereas Johnny is quite Americanized in personality type, so I think that is another way the disconnect may be coming from.
Michaela was way out of pocket this episode! To see her over react like that was disturbing. She looked really bad. Also, she told both Zach and his parents that she doesn’t yell & scream or leave during arguments. On the after show, Zach said he had told Michaela where he was going and that he and Michaela had a conversation where she was adamant about him never waking her up. Even if he hadn’t told Michaela, her response was not an appropriate or “normal” response. If she gets so upset over something small, how will she be on “real” issues as they arise. If a man had acted how she did, people would be telling the woman to run quickly away and saying he was showing signs of being abusive. As someone who has lost my father, I find it a disgusting cop out that Michaela uses her father’s death as a reason for why she acted out. Inexcusable. Full stop. Take accountability Michaela and apologize.

I honestly don’t know who to believe, but I am also leaning more towards Zack. So far from the footage we’ve seen Michaela has lied on two separate accounts (1 with Zack’s parents saying how she doesn’t argue in a certain manner, and 2 telling Zack she wouldn’t leave because of an argument). I am interested to see these two play out.

The thing with Bao and Johnny is that Johnny is now essentially arguing that he doesn't like a piece of Bao, a personality aspect to her. So it's either Bao changes it, or Johnny learns to start admiring it. Of course, I think the latter should happen, but Johnny is so rigid and immature he doesn't have the capacity to expand in character like that. It's unfortunate, because I like them both, but that marriage is not gonna last.
Johnny and Bao are 35 which means they are set in their ways. Difficult to imagine changing.

Look. Marcus said this after the episode where they got married. Johnny has realized that there's a reason he wasn't into her when they met in college, and she's holding a grudge that he didn't like her before.
On a side note. There are men that have preconceived notions of Asian women and would get off on that girlish, cutesy giggling. Johnny isn't and it's probably knowing that some dudes like it.

@@saraleakes210 so. As we speak on things Johnny's said more than once, Bao has said more than once that she's still annoyed he didn't date her when they first met. She's not said it to him, but in her testimonials, and that might be why she's choosing not to shower before bed. She's not yet willing to give in to him, knowing that she's always liked him.

Not saying this is the case here, but people beware of those who use grief or traumatic experiences every time they are either backed into a corner, wrong about something, or wanting attention. I say this from personal experience where people have told me they use these things to get out of situations or get something they want. Doesn't apply to all, but beware not to be manipulated.

I really enjoy your reviews and how you insert your life experiences as well. I totally agree about Johnny . I had such high hopes for him. He’s trying to sabotage the relationship because he wants out. I’m so disappointed.
I think Johnny wanted someone different but ended up with Bao-someone he knew but never wanted to date. He never even said he had a crush on her or thought about dating her as she said about it. I don’t wrong Johnny for wanting someone to bathe or not finding the giggles cute because he can have turn offs, it’s just at the stage of being married, you have to talk about those things and truly compromise. Bao seemed blindsided that he didn’t like her childish behavior and she seemed to intentionally tell him she wasn’t bathing the night they came from the airport. I don’t think Bao is his type. Which is ok, but he also knew her years prior and wasn’t interested in dating her back then. On top of that the not bathing sometimes, snoring and kiddie reactions are all turn offs for him. I think he’s trying to be nice, but he’s not being real and it’s not coming across that way.
He can be turned off by her hygiene habits or her giddiness, without passing judgment. Her giddiness, when she is excited is not childishness, it’s just something her does not like.

He should've never said that he wishes she would've said she had a crush because he would've went for it. He said in the past that he only goes for women he knows are really into him. Either he never liked her or he did. I also want to know his definition of childish. I completely understand her laughing at that awkward kiss on camera, we weren't given great examples of other moments and she might do it in private. Not sure though, he seems to be nitpicky because of it 🤷🏽♀️. I agree with being turned off with the showering situation.

Bao has been pushing him away she wants to snore in peace. How many times has she she told him she is disappointed. Or picks at his attempts. She doubled down on not bathing. Hygiene is vital. He said, change the sheets and she sad no. The fact that she will not consider him is telling. I would be turned off also.
I also wonder with her giggling when he goes in for a kiss. That could happen to anyone. But I wonder if the producers are building a story that she's uncomfortable with physical intimacy. And if so, is it in general or with Johnny specifically? 🤔

She said she was disappointed when he told her he felt like he wanted to run during the honeymoon. She said that again when he did actually run. Johnny is acting like a jerk. He recorded her snoring after she cried on the honeymoon and confessed it was an extremely sensitive topic. Also, his picking at her expressions of being happy?!! I get the kissing thing, but otherwise...he acts like he perfect. Maybe Bao is doubling down on the not showering because he picks at everything about her.
It’s a bad match honestly. I think them knowing each other is a net negative in this instance. They had a chance to date in college or even post college and didn’t.

Anybody that expected Myrla to have a house that she would have to maintain beyond keeping it clean is not reading her properly. During the getting to know them episode you could see that her apartment was dedicated to herself. I can't imagine that she would want to put more into her dwelling when she likes to travel. Her biggest thing is making sure she looks good and she can go great places. Houses require work. She's not trying to do that.
She bought a house a few years ago and recently moved to Houston. Idk if she still has it.
The kiss thing with Myrla is a iffy for me cos when he asked if she’d kiss him by decision day & she said probably not it indicated to me that she’s already made up her mind & that’s not fair on Gil. There seems to be no compromise in that & taking into account his feelings. Outside of this, I’m actually super excited about them after this episode.

Zack explained the situation and he said how he did explain the plan to her and he did text her back, that’s why he was so shocked at why she left and he felt she overreacted.

I think he should have texted I'll be back soon before she woke up, but her reaction was blown way out of proportion. Easily could have been remedied when he came home. "Hey! You left so early, I was hollering for you, I didn't know you left. Could you text me when you leave before I get up? Just so I'm in the loop?" Immediate cussing, squinting and recoiling because he was gone an hr or so?? Nah. Also, that framed pic she had of them creeped me out a bit.
