Drake's coffee cakes and devil dogs were a childhood staple. I'd be lying if I said I've never smashed whole boxes of either in a sitting... 😂 In my opinion, they are the superior snack cake brand (with Entenmann's being a close second).
I will have to give these a try I always just walked past them. they always have drakes in the bread aisle at our walmart in western Pennsylvania. Thank you for the review.
Drake's were all the rage in the 70s for me (LOL) back in NY and NJ and were still prevalent in Miami in the 80s as well. When I moved to NC, I was sad but then I found them in Walmart back in the early 2000s. Anyway, the yodels, devil dogs, coffee cakes, and my dad loved Yankee Doodles. Entenmann's was the second place for me in the northeast and Miami...They are different than they used to be. The top of the coffee cakes usually have crumb top and lightly powdered. They were just yum!
The Drake brand regular pound cakes are in the Walmarts in my area,,,I’m about 4 hours east of you along the WV/KY boarder,,,my significant other eats at least 1 box a day,,, lol
Tami, I once went to a conference in the UK about manufactured and packaged food. It was put on by the FSA, (the UKs Food Standard Agency) and the DHSC, (England's Department of Health and Social Care). What I learned both about the USA and the UK calories was super interesting. They said that both the UK and the USA were and are still not exact. There are two systems of figuring out what the calories are in packaged foods including snacks and other foods. The UK uses one of those systems and the USA uses the other. They said that in fact the USA is closer to being exact than the UK but they are not that far apart. They also spoke about the manufacturers in the UK asking the FSA and the DHSC to give them a break in figuring those calories as both systems to figure them out are difficult and it cost them extra money to have groups of employees to do the figuring. The FSA and the DHSC helped them by allowing them to be 20% off, either up or down on the calories they put on the labels. The USA manufacturers also gets to be 20% off either up or down on calories they put on labels. So the calories on the package label tells you the single serving and the total calories for the whole package. Those figures can be over the true calories by 20% or under the true calories by 20%. You will never get exact calories counts on any product you buy in the UK or the USA. When I got home I inquired about the USA calorie count from the FDA and they replied that what I learned at that conference was true. So you will never get true and accurate calories anywhere in the UK or the USA. Just know that when you are figuring you calories for the day or just for snacks there is a 20% error in the calories one way or another.
The best way to not have to worry about this is to just simply not eat this stuff/poison and eat real whole food that will make you satiated wiith proper nutrients and not eat sugar and simple carbohydrates that race through your body that make you hungry and make you want to eat every 45 minutes. That's why most Americans are metabolically sick as hell and pumped with medicine. If you stick by that, you really don't even need to count calories. Not a myth...FACT!!!! Eat healthy, stay active = healthy life.
Hunter, there are obese people and unhealthy people all around the globe. People all over the world use medications. It’s not only in America. There are so many TV shows in the UK that focus on overeaters and obesity. I’m glad you were interested in the video enough to watch and leave a comment. We appreciate it!
You guys seem like fun and good people is why I occasionally watch. I'm not judging you, but just simply stating facts. Don't know what statistics you look at, but America is 100% one of the most unhealthiist nations in the world due to a corrupt government/corporations, big pharma, and a disastrous Healthcare for profit system. Other industrialized countries do WAY better at regulatory measures in regards to their food. I travel abroad and don't even need to even really use statistics. Walking through a grocery store in the UK, Germany and Canada is different than in the states as is their TV advertisements. Eyes a lot of times can tell the truth rather than hearing what the average primary care doctor and nutritionist tell people in the states. Almost 80 % of food in the U.S. grocery stores is now ultra-processed. Again...you guys seem like good people and obviously have the right to make your own choices...that's your business. All I was trying to do was state a fact to a poster.
@@TamiDunn My God what have I started with my post. I am so sorry. I count both calories and carbs and thought that this would be a piece of information for you to consider and never meant it to be about anything but calories. I'm as confused about the difference in calories per serving and the total calories for the whole container just as you are. Please accept my apology for starting this.
Tami i have been getting Drakes for several years and some are good but I want to highly recommend the Mrs Freshleys Dreamies to you! They are like a raspberry Zinger but better imo. The raspberry is stronger and the coconut tastes fresher. It's definitely my favorite! But Drake's Devil Dogs are good too. The little duck is pretty cool too! Unfortunately Big lots was my main supplier of these cakes and they are now closing every store in the country as I'm sure you've already heard. And you have featured a lot of items lately on your channel from there so I have been going a lot more. So this really is a sad day 😢
I haven’t seen Drake’s around my area. I don’t know why I feel I’ve seen them at Big Lots but I’m probably dreaming. These sound yummy. I could definitely eat more than one package. Thanks for a great review.
They used to be in Greenville NC in the Walmart and Publix. I mostly had them in my life by the box full (well not the wee cakes they are trying) in NY, NJ, and Miami, FL.
@@adriennen.patterson8793 Woohoo! Great! I just hope they are as good as the original cakes...Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Holidays/New Year!
