0:42 was gnarly the quarter 8 16ths and triplet that should be a real chug riff used in a song context. Alternating that with the version that comes after maybe where the second set of 16ths becomes a quarter note. Back and forth between those.
1-1-1-2: Hail to the King 2-1-2-2: One (if started from the third note and sped up) 2-2-2-2: Master of Puppets/For whom the bell tolls/Enter Sandman 1-3-1-3: For whom the bell tolls 1-3-3-1: One (Again, played from the second note and sped up)

Um…so I’ll be honest. This taught me music for the first time. No seriously! I finally understand how music is read now thanks to this very video. Whenever people tried to explain how to read music they do it by counting, which is fine, but I never been shown the action of each note. So thank you! I think I can finally understand this after a decade trying to decode music.
This is definitely how they teach the basics of reading music when learning it in school. If you're playing non-percussion, the step up from this is learning to read the pitches that go with the notes to form complete pieces. But like any language, you'll eventually encounter advanced examples much later on.
It's actually a very good rhythm excercise. This is all in 4/4 btw. Add other time signatures in between bars and you got yourself the ultimate brain wrencher.

This is my sixth year playing clarinet and my second playing trumpet, so I do know what I'm talking about
