    I bought one today, first chainsaw I've bought personally, been itching to go out and drop some trees but it's supposed to rain all day so I'm just anxious and will watch videos to fill my time

      Funny how that always happens!
      I think you will be happy with the saw. There is a particular way to cold start them FYI.
      Full choke until it sputters once. Then half choke, as soon as it starts tap the throttle to turn the choke off. In total, it should take you 5 pulls to cold start

      When it comes to tools, typically what you pay is what you get. Stihl would have to make some terrible product choices to make me switch. They are the gold standard. Although that point can be argued, the other comparable companies are in the same ballpark.

    I bought one aboout 9 yrs ago, good weight, power, and size. mine came with a16" bar. . I was HOPING it would be a good saw to strap onto my atv. first thing, it leaks chain oil constantly, making a mess on my atv. my saw has been the most finicky i have ever owned.

    • @LuckyLoonOutdoors
      @LuckyLoonOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sorry to hear that. The only thing mine does is leak bar oil in storage. Which is normal, yet very annoying. There are fixes for that issue. As far as it being finicky, I suggest you take it into a hardware store dealer. They should be able to re'tune the saw, It will completely change the way it runs.

    • @PhilHewkin
      @PhilHewkin ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LuckyLoonOutdoors it is in the repair shop, same company I bought it from. The leak is from a vent, the fix was unavailable. Service is not the best in this city. If you do get good service in Prince George b.c., then you are lucky!

      nothing more frustraiting when you have a saw that is underpowered for the job. overpowered isnt a problem.

      Over weight is a problem too@@LuckyLoonOutdoors

      @danielpadgett2831 It can be, thats why you have to decide whats most important to you, and to be honest with yourself about the majority of what you will use the tool for.

    Thanks for the video. I’m thinking about getting one of these. It was recommended by the mechanic at the Ace Hardware. He said this has a little more power. I did watch a few reviews and there were some plastic pieces that were not as good as the 261 was built, butif you can run that thing for six hours at a time, I probably don’t need anything bigger than that. Comes with the 18 inch bar. Not sure if I should get the 20 or not.

    • @LuckyLoonOutdoors
      @LuckyLoonOutdoors  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think if you are buying this size saw, you should probably have the 20" bar.

      @@LuckyLoonOutdoors yeah I heard you mention that. I will look into it. Thanks for all the advice. I think I probably will just get this saw. I worked for a tree company and my old boss was telling me I need to get the $900 362. I think for what I need this 271 will be plenty big enough and should last me for years.

    • @LuckyLoonOutdoors
      @LuckyLoonOutdoors  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am sure it will. It has been able to cut down everything I have needed to cut. Mine has probably cut down around 80-100 trees in its life so far. 0 issues

      Glad I could help. One thing you will notice is stihl uses similar components from motors, to the tools used to service them accross most of all their products. So parts are easier to get, and easier to work on. their equipment is is put together pretty well and is reliable. The only other brand I would really consider and have used a lot in the same ballpark would be Husqvarna, they produce good saws as well.

    • @LuckyLoonOutdoors
      @LuckyLoonOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not too much. Just full choke it until it sputters a little, then half choke it, and it should start.

  • @wrightdefenthaleroutdoors

    Bought mine yesterday! Manual says break-in period of 3 gas tanks and not full throttle, under no load. What method did you use? Good review video!

    • @LuckyLoonOutdoors
      @LuckyLoonOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exciting! Break in was a long time ago for me. If I remember right, I had a pretty good sized log and ran it not on full throttle, slowly making cuts through the log carefull not to put it under much load at all. I most definitely didnt do 3 tanks worth of fuel though. I suggest following the manual, start cutting things that you need to cut, but very slowly and without adding a lot of load. that way at least you can get some stuff cut and break in at the same time. DO not cut any sizeable trees down as you will almost certainly put load on the saw when doing so.
      When I say cut slowly, I mean keep your rpm consistent like 3/4 throttle and apply light pressure into the cut. If you push too hard you will start loosing RPM and putting the saw under load.
