I’ve had my MS271 Farm Boss for a little over a year now. It is a wonderful piece of gear! I’ve got the 20in bar and use in for maintenance around the property. I’ve cleared out lakefront with it, storm damage and removing old hollys. It’s fuel efficient too. You can cut a while on a tank. Once the unit is warmed up, rip the cord and it starts the first time! I recommend it highly for a homeowner with some property to keep in check!

I just upgraded from the MS 180 to this farm boss.. The MS 180 has been very good with small tree trimming and firewood... the farm boss can handle bigger trees.. overall very good yard/farm tools.

    Shorts and irrigation boots.
I’m not trying to jump on ya, but that’s just not smart.

Thanks for your review. Power is important in a chainsaw. However, durability is critical. I bought an X brand chainsaw which ran fine but wouldn't restart once it was hot and finally stopped running. I had no one to work on it. So, I bought a Stihl 271 and have been cutting about 5 cords a year for the past 5 years. I have a Stihl franchise nearby to work on it when needed. The 271 starts fine hot or cold and has enough power to cut what I need. I cracked the plastic housing over the oil tank and replacing it was too expensive, so I patched it with epoxy. Aside from that no problems or regrets.

Just bought my Farm Boss today. Started that bitch up and sawed up 14 cuts in a big ass log out by the fence row. Never seen the inside of the tree at this point, so it was a toss up of trees I thought it might’ve been. So this log was dry, partially burned, and dead for 4 years…..found out it ripped through a Red Oak. So this log was the hardest it would’ve ever gotten and was rippin’ through it in 15 seconds. I didn’t mean to give it a punishing test but did and it amazed me. Farm Boss is a true badass!

Picked one up and agree. About 5-8 seconds per trunk cut on a 40yr old wind blown hemlock. Real pain was limbing the tree as it was resting on some young birches and maples and not getting crushed.
