In 1968 I saw Neil Young in a small theater in Stratford Conn. I was already a huge favorite of Buffalo Springfiled fan. It was a delicious evening. I saw him 5 more times once with CS&N at Woodstock with Crazy Horse at the Fillmore East and Capitol theater in NY The last time I saw him was at Carnegie Hall with Crazy Horse taking my last acid trip and it was so amazing I could actually see the music pouring out of the amps and splashing across the walls of the storied hall.

Time Fades Away continues to be one of my favorite Neil Young LP's. Neil Young is the greatest in my book. Top notch shit on par with Dylan's best. Love them both. 1a) Neil Young 1b) Bob Dylan (as far as solo artists go...& with others, too, lol. Thanks for this post. September 8th will be a fine day...Neil's "Hitchhiker" and the great Gregory Allman's final LP "Southern Blood" both getting released. My record player is salivating lol. As an Alabama resident, I can tell ya this, Southern Man needs him around anyhow! (And I'm not dissing Ronnie Van Zant or the rest of Skynyrd...they're great as well).
This version of "L.A." is, now that i hear it, the version i imagine when i listen to "L.A." on the album, 'Time Fades Away'. The only addition i can bring here to This wonderful recording are things i find out from playing with it, i mean the stuff i think sounds like fun to play in the midst of it. Thanks Neil for your both broad and specific representation of it, out here on the Interstate.
Just love early Neil - wish I could have been there. I first heard him on Expecting to Fly (on Radio Luxembourg or Radio Caroline) and bought the Buffalo Springfield - Broken Arrow is another masterpiece - love the guy.
I recall hearing Neil do this song solo acoustic at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago in I'll bet 1973. I hope that when he eventually releases his Vol 2 Archives that a legal acoustic version of this tune is released so I can play it on the radio.

Don't just automatically believe anything that Neil says about Neil. Search for "Neil Young Live at Cobo Hall, Detroit, MI - 1/8/1973 Full Show AUD" where he he introduces it as a "new" song.
