I was 16 in 1969. I played this version of Albuquerque to my son 30 years later. He looked at me in wide-eyed reverence and said, "You lived in the greatest time of all".
i was 15 years old, long past his 100 percercent time.....but the only kool kidz in my school were into him, and I listened to a couple of albums quit a bit
Was flying back home to Stateside from Berlin on my 50th birthday -got off aircraft in DTW-Ins/Cbp agent looked at my passport and that days date-took him a second or to to connect the dots -50th!!! "by a motorcycle" he said -welcome home -haha!!!
Well, they say that Santa Fe.... Is less than ninety miles away, And I got time to roll a number and rent a car. Oh, Albuquerque.... Whenever I think of this song, or I hear Ben Keith's steel. This solo is also great in it's own right, but....Ben's steel just does it to me all of the time. Life is so much better having Neil in it. Cheers from Canada.
Just about sums everything up perfectly about this song, Ben and Neil. Pray all the time for Neils longevity. World be a sadder place without him around. Long may he run.
Soon to be all gone are these magical poets. Yes poets, they thought of themselves first as poets, straight out of the beats. Few were the ones blessed to be poets and unbelievable talented musicians. Neil is among those gifted few.
Neil Young is the sleeper guitar prodigy...nobody else can play like that. This song is spectacularly bleak. Dude manages to make "country ham" profound!
The song was written during the "Time Fades Away Tour" and reflects perfectly on NY's state of mind at the time. Sometimes, you just need to get away. There is no one that I enjoy more on acoustic guitar than Neil. I've seen him described as a non-virtuoso virtuoso. I can listen to this and Winterlong everyday. He definitely captures the vibe with both. Country ham is profound! Maybe not the healthiest of choices, but it has always been a touchstone for this old country boy to remind me of less troubled times in my childhood. I'll pass on the eggs.
It was such a mainstay of diner menus. Not just ham - it was "COUNTRY ham"! Neil is incredibly empathetic and sensitive. I don't know how he plays his music without crying. I can't listen without crying!
You was a child blessed with special gifts . You are way ahead of your time Your music is timeless. The man and his guitar. This is why I love your music so much . Simple . ❤
been hooked ever since i bought that very first album (an oil painting of him on the front?) in a record storte (remember those ?) in Concord, NH.....made it my life's goal (one of) seeing him live, luckily i have, in a number of configurations, never fails to kill....aloha...
The Album “Tonight’s the Night” hit my turntable and consequently my ears like a bomb going off in my brain. It’s been a favourite for about 50 years now and it still hits hard. This is a different but refreshing take on that song of that album.
No its definitely one if his greatest sings. It's my favorite if TTN WHICH IS IN THE TOP 3 NEIL ALBUMS WITH AFTER THE GOLD RUSH AND EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS IS NOWHERE.
Like I Said: To me 😊 It's just that this one makes me feel something very special I can't really describe. Like something from the past, but forgotten...
The Greendale , Devil's Sidewalk, Rain, Sun Green , Carmichael are super songs . They have their own distinctive sound . I love all the songs. I really like to dance. . These songs are easy to dance to . Keep Rockin Mr Neil ❤
Introduced to this song on another bootleg by a dear friend, my brother in law….many years ago. Just found this tonight and having a moment. Evokes the memory of the great friendship of a friend long passed. Happy, bittersweet tears!
Man what a lost song i didnt think anybody rememberd this song much less Albuqeqe this way i remember this song from way back in 79. from Rubio,J Ros.N.M. Thanks Neil for remembering saloo
I used to think so but I think it's actually just drop D, not double. Don't hear any open d ringing, plus he plays a normal d chord almost the whole time, often doing pull offs to get a dsus2, which is something you don't normally do in double drop d.
I caught this tour in New Orleans at the Saenger Theatre. Great acoustics, spellbinding performance from a ledged. Wish someone would post that whole show!
I missed the whole tour due to being sick but lived it through The Rust List. This recording from Sacramento was on the '99 Solo Tour Compilation'. Amazing set of music I listened to many times and try to emulate in my own playing as best I can. Turn it up loud and listen to those Fraps (unique guitar pickup Neil used) boom through the place! Thanks so much to the guys who took a chance to record the most well documented Neil tour in the 20th Century!
Where can I find this compilation you speak of? I saw the Rosemont Theater solo Acoustic show in Chicago on this tour and it has always been in my top ten live shows. Would love a great sounding copy of that or anything from this 99 tour. Thanks
I thought I'd heard everything Young prior to 2000. Thanks for this great version by the only person who could write a song not just about, but entitled, Albuquerque. Great artwork, too!
I've listened to Neil Young most of my adult life and didn't know about this tune. My curiosity stemmed from watching Breaking Bad. The song is incredible. Glad I watched the series, if only because it lead me to listen to this.
When I was 19, 45 years ago, I moved to Albuquerque to go to school because of this song.
Never looked back. I retire in 3 months.
Thanks Neil!
Awesome! You lived the dream! RESPECT! 👍💯
Will we wake up? ✌️ @@ohgawd
Billion year old carbon
Hope you've readjusted to being on that road again...
I was 16 in 1969. I played this version of Albuquerque to my son 30 years later. He looked at me in wide-eyed reverence and said, "You lived in the greatest time of all".
Some of these serendipitous Neil Young bootlegs on TH-cam are surely among the greatest things ever recorded. Not just songs. Things.
Songs have more value than things, these are songs, not things
dig that
Cool
When a song is recorded it becomes a thing..if not you wouldn't be listening to it on your thing machine.
Agreed!!
This song has saved my soul a billion times. This has to be the best version ever.

F*ck yes
Best songwriter on Earth.
True that!!

Do you know his father is a famous poet in canada.
Blessed to have grown up listening to Neil.
Me. Too

This song is mysterious. Mystical. Soft, good sleeping music. We love you Neil 😚 !
Ben Keith's pedal-steel on the _Tonight's the Night_ original is spine-tingling.
Rest in peace, Long-grain.
This song is dangerous. Every time I listen to it I get very close to buying a motorcycle and quitting my boring ass career.
roll anaother number & rent a car find some fried eggs & country ham some place where no one knows yu
🎸✨💄🌷NEIL🌷💄✨🎸

A roadtrip through New Mexico with music by Neil Young - nothing's better! (I'm from germany)
I just discovered this song while driving thru Albuquerque
I'll NEVER forget the time NEIL YOUNG (in the spiritual realm) was in my bedroom with that HANK WILLIAMS Guitar🥰🥰🥰
Well, they say

Amen to that.
Best escape song ever...
This should be part of an official release. It's a strong performance

Hey, I went there. It snowed. Got up and caught 10 trout. Drove to Texas to see my dad. He loved the trout.
Who takes time to give this a thumbs down? This is gold
I saw Neil on this tour in Seattle, it blew my 22 year old mind....made me love him even more.
You was a child blessed with special gifts . You are way ahead of your time
Your music is timeless. The man and his guitar. This is why I love your music so much . Simple . ❤
His father was a literary man in Canada had schools named after him.
I love that drawing of Neil.
It's just some digital crapola. booswah crapola
Printed it of and framed it, in the study now 🤗
I drew that we were out in the shed having a few numbers Neil was pickin an playin
I told him to sit still for a minute..
And wallah...
really, Yo Paulie??
Every time we drive through the west on really long trips, I must hear this song. I sing it until it's played!
Love This Old Guitar, You Too NEIL . Been Listening Since I Was A Teenager,

I have to come here now to listen to Neil now, what a fucking shame this song is too good to be off of Spotify
Come si canta e si suona, senza far rumore! I love il Giovane Nello 😀
..I love Neil´s music.....Go on man and keep on rockin´...
it´s played with an "open d tuning" that´s why the bass of the guitar sounds so great..
ralf sch. It's Double Drop D not Open D.
Jonathan Dean yes thats right...thank you!
I used to think so but I think it's actually just drop D, not double. Don't hear any open d ringing, plus he plays a normal d chord almost the whole time, often doing pull offs to get a dsus2, which is something you don't normally do in double drop d.
Citizen Kane Jr. I play it in double and it sounds the same.
Jonathan Dean
I often do too, it sounds good but I'm quite sure Neil Young doesn't here.
This is a great performance of "Albequerque", as is also, "Tonight's the Night: Live at the Roxy."
I caught this tour in New Orleans at the Saenger Theatre. Great acoustics, spellbinding performance from a ledged. Wish someone would post that whole show!

Reminds me of Phish summer 98. First time I'd ever heard the song
Saw him twice in Albuquerque
You do a real service by posting these obscure gems here. Thank you!
I thought I'd heard everything Young prior to 2000. Thanks for this great version by the only person who could write a song not just about, but entitled, Albuquerque. Great artwork, too!
Isn't this on rust never sleeps. That will be hard finding somewhere where they don't know neil unless they have lived under a rock.

Sacramento. March 17, 1999
Didn't see this show, but saw a lot of other great musicians during my 12 years in New Mexico, at reasonable prices. I miss the place.
I wish this was on video
Love this song and this performance. I think it is the same one as on the 1999 Neil Young Tour Compilation 6 CD set...
Ahoy uncle Neil, you the best by any test, Craig in Cape Town

From the great album "Tonight's the Night!

Funny how most of my life have always felt like the outsider and only person who liked neil young
i thought I was the only one
Ya me 2 thought I was the only one 2 appreciate neil young
It'S Great
I would love hear this tune on the tv show "Better Call Saul". It would fit the show and Saul's character so well.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
song starts at 0:58
Breaking Bad really missed out by not using this song during its run,
Agreed! Maybe Vince will use it in Better Call Saul S6 🤞
