There is so much symbolism in this film, have you heard of the 4 horseman theory? Imortan is famine, the people-eater is pestilence, the bullet-farmer is war and Max is death.
The og films are not going anywhere but this one helps us see the whole idea a bit better due to modern and old school effects. Max didn't grow up this way but Furiosa did.
"I don't understand two things about this movie. I don't understand how they ever finished it, and I don't understand how hundreds of people aren't dead." Steven Soderbergh, on Fury Road
I love that they got Nicholas Hoult, who had played a suave, attractive guy in pretty much everything he'd been in prior, to be an absolutely psychotic, diseased mess of a human being who spends much of his time screaming insane things and shaking like he's two weeks into the meth binge that will finally kill him. He nailed it, too. He's up there with Heath Ledger for being cast in roles that I found to be odd choices until I actually saw the movie and realized that they were perfect.
The actor who played Imortan Joe also played the villain in the first Mad Max movie. They used silver cake decorating spray for when the war boys sprayed their mouths, after the movie came out stores couldn’t keep it in stock.
I went into the theater not expecting much; I came out and I was trembling. Saw it five more times. Would go see it right now if it were playing somewhere. I love it. I love everything about it.
I was wondering if you did the first three movies--with Mel Gibson as Max. If you haven't yet, you need to. George Miller has been in on all of the franchise movies. Great movie and great reaction!
Amazing reaction Leo❤ You're so right about not taking our resources for granted. For anyone wondering who those guys on stilts are, according to the director, they're the Crow Fishers, Vuvalini who stayed behind in the Green Place; according to production designers, they're Furiosa's father's tribe, the Vuvalini sons left behind. Every once awhile, the Vuvalini and Crow Fishers meet up to reproduce, the former keep the daughters while the latter keep the sons.
23:43 I love that part. I almost wish they'd shown us what Max did, but this is also good. Just a giant explosion occluded by the fog, and then you see Max walking back all casual, covered in blood that's not even his.

"Somehow I thought you girls were above all that" This line is interesting to me because that character is the wasteland equivalent of upper-class and isnt used to violence. She doesnt seem to realize that outside of the citadel, with unlimited resources, violence = survival.
21:40 To clarify she never actually went under the wheel. If you go back and watch it you can see she goes in between the wheels. But Max lies to the wives (and has a little moment with Furiosa where he is trying to convince her to go along with it) because he knows they can't go back for her anyway. It's easier for the wives to just think she died saving them.
One of the absolute best action films of all time, and one of my favorites. When it’s available to watch, I strongly recommend watching the prequel that recently came out: “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” It is an awesome film that shows the start of her journey when she’s taken as a kid, leading up to her getting her start at the citadel. Because Furiosa is younger in this film (starts as a kid and is eventually in her teens or 20’s), she’s played by two younger actresses (including Anya Taylor Joy), and both actresses do a fantastic job. Chris Hemsworth (Thor) also plays one of the main villains in it and is excellent in the film. I’ve seen people bitching and moaning about things they didn’t like about the movie, and at least 90-95% of those complaints are bullshit. It’s an awesome film; definitely check it out. Besides Fury Road and Furiosa, there are three other Mad Max films, all three of which were made a long while before Fury Road, which is the fourth installment in the series. They are, in order, “Mad Max” (originally released in 1979), “Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior” (typically known in the U.S. just as “The Road Warrior”), and “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” (featuring Tina Turner as one of the main antagonists). These films definitely have a lower budget than Fury Road, but with the little they had, they still pulled off some amazing and intense scenes, especially in the first two of these three. The third movie is very different from the other two and not quite as intense, but it still has its good moments and is still worth watching. In these three films, Max was played by a young Mel Gibson. For “Fury Road,” they had to recast the Max character, since Max wasn’t planned to have been a lot older by that point in the story and so much time had passed since the earlier films.
