Empathy helps you to bond and make others feel seen because you don't have all the perspectives. But people can try to take advantage of one's empathy as well as kindness, generousity and love. Empathy however is just one good quality of a loving person, you need more. I just don't understand how someone can be too empathetic but instead there's a lack in other area like the person is biased and unjust.
Exactly, as a Christian myself, when I’ve needed empathy and validation from the church when there’s been abuse in church and in my home…there’s a huge lack of empathy or compassion for me and I haven’t been doing anything illegal or sinful. I’ve been to many churches and it’s been the same over and over. The church lacks compassion and love and empathy in general. If the church doesn’t care about those in it either then there’s a big problem. We have to figure out how to care for those in the world too without compromising our beliefs. But this push to not be empathetic is not of Jesus. If people don’t like the word empathy then the church could focus on being more loving…they aren’t that either. Are Christians for apathy? In my experience Christian’s are very apathetic. We need a focus on compassion and care for the hurting rather than so much focus on resisting people. The church lacks love and compassion and don’t realize they will be judged for that also. Of course we need to stand for truth but in my experience people in churches don’t seek to find the truth…or understanding of how someone got to where they are…they don’t listen or have any love to hear the hurting so they can help. They want everyone to appear a certain way and act a certain way (extra biblical ways). That is more important than loving others to them.
@@jrbontje2415 I agree even though there are many christians who also care about empathy. This truth over empathy does not apply because they don't need to be polar opposites. Nothing wrong with having opinions but mostly people in need of a listener don't need opinions and directions. Ofc there are situation where wrongdoing needs to be addressed and even judged and I want to believe not many people would say that you just need to be empathetic towards someone who is a murderer and let that go.

When progs say empathy they mean sympathy, it is written in their actions and words. They feel sorry for the person and believe them incapable without their grace. It is really just a way of leveraging off of the person to raise themselves up. Empathy imo takes in account their deeds along with the enviroment to have a better understanding of what led them to their current point. You don't absolve them of their part in it.
