I was curious what your thoughts were about why there was slipping and flaring in 2-3, and 3-4. I did a a filter change when I first started noticing slipping in 3-4 and adding some new fluid and the filter and some Lucas conditioner seemed to help a lot. But I was curious if there was anything you ever found that pointed out to be the problem. Thanks and the video was awesome and informative
Usually the AFL valve gets worn in the valve body causing low line pressure. Transgo makes a valve and reamer to fix it. Thats the one I use. Catch it early enough and you may be able to do that repair and not have to rebuild it.

My 07 CTS would not move backwards. Could not even pull it backwards.Foward gears seemed fine. What could cause that. I replaced with a used transmission.
If you could not move it backwards even with the engine off it might be a broken park rod. Otherwise you probably have a clutch pack that is welded together, basically making it in 2 gears at one time.
I have a problom with my 2003 318d bmw gm 5l40e transmission. Firs start after 5 and more hour parking, car doesnot move in D gear, firt ı shift to M1 and M2 after2 minutes driving the car, ı shift back to D and the the problem disappears. What can cause this problem
Some of these had a problem with a mis-machined forward drum (C1), that would have those symptoms only when it was cold. Replace the molded pistons while you are there.
Hey my transmission lost all gears and has burnt transmission fluid and had a lot of small metal debris in the fluid and magnet .a check ball in my valve body seem to be missing material,and my clutches seem to look burnt .will new clutches and valve body rebuild fix this ?
You will probably need molded pistons for it as well. They are a pure SOB to install also. I go over it in the video. Transgo sells a tool as well as a valve (AFL Valve) for the valve body that you will need. I don't have the rebuild video up yet. I usually post it on Patreon first and there is a lot of extra info I post on each transmission there. I have had trouble getting that extra info, so I haven't done it yet. The videos on TH-cam have a more condensed version and that is ready to go. I may just go ahead and post that before I do the Patreon as I have had several people asking for the rebuild video on here. I have a bmw e53 x5 with 5L40e transmission, i change all valve body, oil and filter, so i start my car and runs forward in R, runs forward in N... My scanner detects a problem with 2nd selenoid valv.
First thing to check is the PWM solenoid. Pull it out and check the screen in the tip of it and see if it is missing. If it is you will need to go into the valve body and find the piece. Then replace the solenoid.
y have the same gearbox on my 530d e39, the first symptoms were a big shake when its downgrades , its only happens when for example y accelerate quickly and stop 100m further , y flushed the gearbox three times and drived 50km between each flush to not mixing old oil with new , there was almost non metal on the magnet , now 30.000km further its drive well , do you know where y cun buy the whole kit to rebuild it ? i am from France , thanks !!

Probably wise on this one. If it wasn't for the pistons it is not that bad, but the pistons are a pure PITA.

Bell, tail and output shafts. The rest will be basically the same except for clutch capacities I believe.

I think you missed the manual valve when you installed the valve body.

Hey there mate, what can cause a 5L40E to have no reverse and it drives in natural up to 50km/h before revving out and drives fine in Drive lol
