    People tend to under estimate cats. They have the killer instinct and absolutely blinding speed. A good sized cat would definitely hold its own against a marten, hard to tell which would win. Someone mentioned that a marten can take down a deer, but a cat isn't deer. It has teeth, fangs, claws and rear feet to rip another animal's guts out, drop the carcass on your porch, then curl up in your lap and go to sleep.

      Actually, there is a species (Yellow-throated) that CAN kill the biggest of domestic cats. but a pine marten is no match against a cat

      @Atman Gotango if said marten is yellow-throats, the cat will be on the table

      I used to think that cats were the ultimate land predator. Until I read about mustelids. There are stories of wolverines displacing bobcat pairs and even the occasional cougar from kills. I saw a TH-cam video where it took a leopard half an hour to kill an old honey badger.
      That particular cat could probably take that particular Pine Martin but I think that pound for pound the weasel family is a bit tougher than cats.

      House cats can kill martens like this one. This particular marten was in the cat's territory and it is clear that the cat did not really want to hunt or kill at the time, but simply wanted to shoo away the intruder. Cats are pretty good at keeping such guests away from your house, especially if you have chickens around.

      @ups7739 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not too sure about that. Cat would win with an ambush I think, but mustelids are hard to beat face to face. The size of each would be a big factor. Realistically both would probably die from their wounds if neither ran. Felids and mustelids are definitely the two most admirable animal families either way, incredibly skilled, powerful and beautiful creatures

      @@ups7739 You completely underestimat cats. Don't be fooled by the tame house cat sleeping on your couch. Cat would grab the pine Martim and shake it to break it's neck, grab it by the throat to choke it to death or bite through it's skull for instant death. Pound for pound cats are the deadliest animals alive. For example, one on one a 150 lb mountain lion would quickly kill a 150 lb wolf.
