I novice sewer and was looking at making bowl copies for myself. Watched a few different videos and then I found your videos. Wow, I learned so much. I like the templates and know I'm thinking maybe Christmas gifts. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Great idea, Allyson! There are lots of ways to center your design. I usually fold the fabric & use the hashmarks on the template as shown in some of my later videos but maybe making the center hole a bit bigger is a good one too.
Why not cut out the dart area on your template so you don't need to mark all those dots on your fabric, then just trace up into the dart to mark the sewing line?

It's a Martelli Rotary Cutter. You can get it left handed or right handed, 45mm or 60mm or 28mm on my website - www.winnerdesigns.com (use Discount Code Covid 19 for 19% off!) or at www.martellinotions.com. I have a ton of videos on using it to maximum potential under my Roary Cutters Playlist.
Linda, I just ordered the 10" bowl cozy template! So excited! You mentioned not using Batiks and I understand about the wax issue. Batiks are cotton, and I am wondering if the fabric is pre-washed and dried, I would think that the wax might be removed?
I really am not sure. I had one of the fabric companies make this recommendation to me. I wonder if it is the cheaper fabrics that there may be some residue.... I love batiks!
Thanks so much for the videos!! Please clear up for me the comment you made in Part 1 about mercerized cotton thread. I just checked my supply and the majority of the spools are marked as mercerized, others are not. Are they all usable as microwave safe "cotton threads"? Also in Part 2 , at the end, you said batiks were not ok for the cozys. Is this a hard and fast rule??? Lucie Biesenthal
Wow… thank you @lindavideos for taking the time to share SO much information! It’s a shame so many people find it necessary to complain about - so.many.things. There’s a great feature on TH-cam that allows the watcher to adjust the playback speed - either faster, or SLOWER! There are several people on here that sound like they desperately need to learn how to use this feature. I’m so glad I found your videos and look forward to getting my order!!
Thanks Michelle forthe kind words! I love the Playback Speed option, too. In the old days I only had so much time so I talked fast to cram everything in. Now I have a bit longer so I can slow down some. So glad you found me, too~ Thanks for your support!
Linda, I am confused on cutting with layer cakes. Layer cakes are 10 in and your template is 10.5 in. Help please. I watched the video several times and you don't mention which template your using. Also I don't have a,10 inch square, do I get that one from you or Martelli?
Hi Becca - yes, it is a bit confusing! Originally, I made the Microwave Bowl Cozy Template 10 1/2" (MBCT). This size fits most standard cereal & soup bowls best. But because Layer Cake Fabric Bundles are so popular, I created a 10" MBCT. It finishes a bit smaller but will fit most standard cereal/soup bowls. If you already own a bunch of Layer Cakes then you can simply purchase the 10" MBCT. If you want to make your own squares to start with, Martelli makes Square Templates with a Fussy Cut Frame. They offer all different sizes including those that match my cozy templates - 10", 10 1/2", 12 1/2", & 15". You can get them from Martelli or Winner Designs. BTW - By popular request, I have created 4 new sizes for smaller bowls, plates & even to use for cup cozies. They are 6 1/2", 7 1/2", 8 1/2", & 9 1/2". They're not on my website yet but are available by contacting me. When I get some time to make samples & film a new video, they'll be on my website for sale. Thanks!
Yea mystery solved. I want to order your 10 in bowl cozy. I have the 10.5 and 12.5. I need the 10 in square also. Is there a bundle? I spoke with Lisa this morning. Let me know how to order. Thank you.
I know you can't come to every quilt show, but wish you would come to ours in Roswell. NM in Septmber. Lol. You and Lisa can stay with me. Lol. I am your biggest fan here in Martelli products have not found anyone here who uses your products. I just don't understand it. Lol
I know; it used to be there but they removed the feature that shows all of my text. I had lots of info on most every video that is now gone. Oh man....
Sorry; used to have all of the info on the screen. You can get everything at www.winnerdesigns.com. Click on Products & Templates. I now have 4 Microwave Bowl Cozy Templates. I'll be filming a new video soon to show what you can do with each of them & to show more batting choices. Thanks for asking!
Cofy 4 All then it wasn’t 100% cotton! Either labeled wrong from fabric store, or there was an additive on the batting used to hold the fibers together. Did you pre-wash with no fabric softener?
Cofy 4 All Skrim is rarely mentioned. I always thought Warm and Cozy was all Cotton but even the 100d% cotton has skrim and that is poly. It’s all very confusing when few discuss it.
@@vickifolsomeggleston4642 Thank you so very much for your response. I never knew anything about Skrim, never even knew it was a word. The yarn states it's 100% cotton, so I believed it was cotton.. Have a nice day & stay safe..
I always say southerner's talk slow and listen slower. Please slow down with the audio and your hands. Too much movement to follow. Maybe add CC. I missed how you calculated and created the depth for the deep bowls.
This is the best video I've watched on making this project!!!
Well, thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it~
Love your cozies.
Thanks, Lucille! So glad to hear~

I would recommend drilling a hole in the circle templet to make sure you are centering it.

Wonderful information I watched video 1 and 2

A centre hole on the circles would make placement easier
Great video. I noticed that all of your soup bowls are rimless. How do you make a cozy for a soup bowl with a 1 1/2 rim? Thanks,
Denise
Not sure what you mean about a rim... do you mean adding a binding to the edge?
Where did you get that rotary cutter?

If the template had a hole in the middle it would be easy to center the circle by seeing the X in the hole.
What type of batting do you use?100%Quilters Dream or Wrap n Zap?
rescue3883 I like cotton better, as it’s soft and cozy
I can keep up with you as I talk fast, too!
