Love your humor. I watched two other videos of this particular type of door and they used a steel frame and metal bearings. It's been interesting what they did. One person is good at metal work, so so at woodworking, door turned out well. Another one was even better at metal work, even made his own bearings and shafts and made a metal skin for the door. Turned out great. What wasn't shown was whether they were balanced where an average person could open them. One of them did say their door probably weighed 80 pounds. The original design was extremely well balanced where it took little effort to open and close. Don't know if part of it is adding hidden counterweights or if there is a mechanism on the back of it one can't see. There is a picture of a different design glass one that does have additional mechanical linkage on the back of the door. My criticism of you is that you are good at woodworking, short on the engineering side. Proper bearings and shafts were needed but obviously cost extra. I've been looking for a door design like this for a garden gate and I personally would use an aluminum frame, metal bearings and attach a wood skin to it but that more aligns with my background in building machines.
You are so right and spot on. The real areas of strength need to be at the pivot points. It’s seems obvious but it needs to be extremely strong. Not having a solid mount in the outer corners and a strong pivot joint caused mine to fail. Plus even with wood it was very heavy and needed extra muscle to work it. I also made 2 doors next to each other which also complicated things for me. I have seen the videos you mention and they were both single doors. I even saw a cabinet door. I hope you for turns out awesome. Thanks for watching my content.
I love the look of the kinetic door. If you went smaller, like a jewelry box kenetic door, would that work better?. Your kenetic laundry room door is beautiful, more so after you put hinges on it and connected the pieces.
Maybe use a 1" x 2" inch framing with 1/8" plywood panels, that'd take care of the silly amount of weight. With better hardware, hinges etc., you made a pretty okay exterior set of doors.
Love the comedy, love the explanation. Solid as a prototype, but I get it and support your decision to change it. Im actually making my own smaller verison today and stumbled upon your video. You deserve more subs my man, earned mine.

I stole this idea off a Facebook video I saw of a smaller door for a cabinet. Also Johnny builds made one but his was out of metal and only a si hole door. You can tell in the video it is extremely heavy. Is your Instagram the same as your TH-cam?
Tha is man. I was using a brad nailer and I used 3 inch long brads. I shot them at angles to hold them in better and they have held up well since then. I also don’t have anything using them for structure either. I wouldn’t hang anything from them
I've seen someone make these origami doors out of better more durable materials. The thing is origami doors are very expensive for home Improvement even if you got HGTV to come and remodel your home, and origami doors were used in the remodeling.
Thanks Jeffrey. I posted this on a page on Facebook and I had a hater almost immediately. This door really kicked my butt and had a lot of problems. I think a smaller door and a better center hinge would do wonders for the design. The next one I make will be better for sure.

I think some doors with shelving on the front would be good there. It would make the laundry room like a hidden room.

I think you can put magnets on the squares so they get all the way close
Could have used shocks like in car trunks etc. Would help with the weight but would also take space.

What you did to rectify the wonkiness of the door is probably what most have done since they made their own too. It's just not a practical door.
