@@sheiladavis6523 home made pop corn, kernals came in a bag and you used oil in a covered pan, loved Kool-Aid, lime or grape or strawberry. My dad loved the TV show Gun Smoke, he would buy the individual boxes of Cracker Jack and keep them on a high shelve, we could only have them during Gun Smoke so we would be quiet and he could watch his show. 5 kids can make alot of noise.

Another benevolent ghost story is `The Other Wing` by Algernon Blackwood, it`s on youtube as an audio, it`s a nice little story.

I’m glad the father humbled himself and said "Thank you” to the little ghosts. Glad he acknowledged them and said something sweet. They didn’t try and poison Ann’s relationship with her father despite their own history. They wanted her to be loved and happy and released her when they knew she would be. Very touching story. 😊

These kind of movies always scared the heck outta me, as a little girl and even now as an adult. My sister and my cousin always enjoyed the twilight zone and this type of stuff. But i would be trembling in my seat!😳🏃🏾

I had a reoccurring dream as a child. 3 women would visit me. (I was being abused & neglected). They spoke Spanish, I didn't, so I never knew what they were saying but they tried to comfort me. One of their names started with an 'M' is the only thing I remember from it.
So sad but a special memory. I was abused too. Wish I had that.
I was born in a very, very old house, widely believed by most of the county to be haunted. Sometimes, if I were crying alone in my room at night, an older woman would sing very softly to me...on cold nights, it wasn't unusual to have a hand pull the covers up around me. Or a cool hand caress my forehead when I had a fever. I thought she was just another family member...we had so many relatives in the area. It wasn't until I(4 or 5, somewhere in age between the two) began singing her song to my kittens one day and my grandmother asked me where I learned it that I found out it was a Cherokee song. My grandmother knew the words...her own grandmother had been part Cherokee...but no one else in the immediate family spoke it. The song was a sad but comforting song...if that makes sense or not, still it was.
I was never frightened. I felt protected, safe. Nothing bad ever happened to me as long as I lived there. After my parents split and we left, I never truly felt at home anywhere ever again. I miss my home still.
I remember being scared by this episode as a child. The part about the aunt being hugged by the unseen presence really got to me. I remember so much dread and fearful fascination these stories evoked when I was a kid. And that music! All without special effects. Only a child's imaginative fear of scary things in stories.

Just found this series and the writing and acting are top notch!
Whoever wrote the father's role in the script must have had a PhD in psychology. An American man born during the depression, taught by his family, friends and society at the time that it was a man's duty to keep his emotions bottled up. Probably went to war in Korea, saw and did some things he'd rather forget, found a woman he loved and settled down, only to be traumatized by her death. Now he'll do anything to avoid showing his grief, including pushing his only child away. And to show all that so eloquently in the space of about 20 minutes is masterful!
Also, that Chinese servant is played by the Korean actor Phillip Ahn, who played Master Kan in the old 70's show Kung Fu with David Carradine.
He was the one who said "Snatch the pebble from my hand".
Not bad! My grandfather was born in 1930, and though I never met him (he died in 1986, long before I was born) I know he was a bit like that. He was in Korea, too

Whatever role he played, good guy or bad guy, Phillip Ahn NEVER gave a bad or 'off' performance. It is worth your while to search for and see his work. Along with his support to help his native Korea, the man was a treasure. He personified dignity and caring for his fellow man everywhere. I have had the privilege of knowing a few like him. If you ever have that privilege you will be blessed for it.
This had some heartfelt moments. When Anne first kisses her father, when the father says Thank You to the spirits at the end. And when Song is discussing how flowers are difficult to listen to but you can hear them...interesting.
This episode was precious. The loving spirits of three precious children, taken from life so tragically, but yet the love remained and helped mend the void between a father and daughter. Beautiful and tender 🙏🏼
It would take some getting used to, but I like to think that someone who _accepted_ their hugs and showed them some affection, could help the poor little spirits find their way out of this world and into the next.

My beloved Philip Ahn! American born, Korean heritage, his distinctive voice (without the fake accents) was most powerful in the TV series, Kung Fu (David Carradine). I miss his on screen presence. 😃

Same here. He had a long and notable acting career, but my favorite character of his has to be Master Kan -- so gentle, wise, and strong.
You can hear the wisdom in his voice. I've thought of him through the decades from the Kung Fu series.

When I was little this show scared me. That music was enough to induce anxiety attacks.

Houses looked like this in the 50's. But, yes, these are stage sets.
It was this music that haunted me the most.I loved twilight zone too,but this music was scarier.

As little girls in horror/drama films usually they might try to cause a fatal accident in order to keep Ann as theirs as a forever playmate..I like the way this ended instead with her father realizing that he truly does love his daughter.
He did love his daughter, that was obvious, in the 2nd half.

The score really adds to "creepiness" As a boy it transfixed me.
I am the same. I have been looking for that score when Ann goes up the stairs the first time. I remember it as a child but didn't know what show it was from.

I think her dead mother somehow gave the little girl the idea to kiss her dad before he left and after he came home- that is why it surprised and confused him. I am certain his wife did that every day before she passed away.

The first season of OSB was restored and made available to buy. I got it. This episode is from that season. For reasons unknown, the company hasnt restored the last 2 seasons. I wish they would !

I watched this twice, and the second time, after I went to bed that night, I heard Ann's voice over and over "Yes?... Someone called me. Someone called my name" and I was so creeped out I almost had to leave my bedroom door open all night🤣🤣🤣🤣

Omg I have not seen that since I was a kid , but that episode freaked me out so bad hat I would not go down the stairs to leave my apt. Building - sometimes the light was out. My mother would walk to he top of the stairs and say, away all ghosts, away Jennifer , away Rose, away Mary

One step beyond was different than all the rest because story's were based on events that actually happened. Its one of the best. 😮
Love the story. I wonder if this really happened the way the story was portrayed. As all stories of OSB are based on facts. I have heard of a story told to me by my sister-in-law which involved two dolls. A boy, and a girl. When she was a child, they pretended the two dolls got married to each other. There was a pretend wedding and everything. The family put the two dolls sitting together on a shelf as they left them in the bedroom while my in-laws went off to have lunch. During lunch, they all smelled something burning. They found the two dolls still on the shelf in that room where they left them but the girl doll, was all burned! Like someone didn’t like it and set her on fire 🔥! Nothing els in the room was scorched except for the girl doll. Not the surrounding curtains, books, walls, furniture. Not even the shelf the dolls both sat on. Only the girl doll had been touched by flames. The boy doll next to her was also untouched. There was nothing around the dolls in that room ever found that could create such an extreme heat to the extent as cause a fire. And why only the girl doll. Can dolls become a host to an other worldly entity? If so, maybe the “boy” doll did not like his bride? We do live among so many things even science can’t explain. Our universe and our own existence we ourselves can not comprehend.

I was rather pissed the way he was shaking her- her delicate bone structure, her emotions,etc- when raising children, one must use enormous love and patience. And, I watched this when I was 12 years old sporadically because I was busy playing with kids myself. It's only by chance that I rediscovered this great series.

My cousin had a "best friend" when he was very small, and it turned out to be the spirit of the little boy who had lived in the house fifty years ago and died in the park about a mile up the hill. "Micah" , the boy's name was. Frightening lol

I must share a story...a true story. It would be right about the same time as this show was made in late 1959/early 1960. This was 2 years before I was born, my older sister was 2. My father's business career was on it's way up and he was offered the option to open up a new territory in New Hampshire. Relocating from Central NY. They purchased a grand old home built in the 1870's. An authentic Victorian home that retained all of it's original character and much of it's original features and many of it's furnishings and had the same family for 4 generations living there before it was sold. It was quite a change as my mother described it to me as they were living in a recently built home of no more than 5 years old back in NY.
My mother was the most scientific, educated, level headed clear thinker , not prone to imagination, or superstition. She was simply the most rational dedicated mother and wife a family could ever hope for. She left IBM tech dept upon getting pregnant with my sister.
I never leaned of this story until I was in my 20's. They moved in and in less than 2 weeks later left. My mother tells that she was in her bedroom early in the evening, with my father not yet home. Reading a book while laying on the bed as was her custom, she looked up and saw a reflection in the mirror of what appeared to be an older woman dressed in 1880-1890 period clothing, she was transfixed by the sight and then turned to where the reflection would seem to emanate from and there was the lady, very slowly the lady turned her head towards my mother and whispered "get out". My mother for perhaps the only time in her life screamed with fear and and ran out never to return.
She grabbed my sister from the playpen next to the bed and fled in pajama's to the house next door. She kept an eye out waiting for my father to return home and flagged him down from the neighbors yard. She calmly told my father that she would never ever set foot in that house again and nor would my sister. I can only imagine what and how my father must have felt and reacted to this. Knowing my mother as he did he knew that what she said about never setting foot ever again in that home was cast in stone. She never did. Dad had to find a home with "no history" to it. The went to motel that night and within a few days found a rental home and moved in for a few months until they purchased a new home.
Never again in the next 40 years did anything ever occur that was not logical or strange. It's only because I knew my mother and how this could not be something imaginary that I have absolute faith that what she claimed she saw was not a flight of fancy or anything other than an actual real experience. She passed away in 2000 suddenly from pancreatic cancer. Never once in all her years did she ever have any doubt about what she experienced. My sister, much like my mother, is a no bs hard driving business owner not given to anything other than cold clear reality. 20 years later she had an experience that impacted her as much as it did my mother....but that's another story for another time. I miss you mom !

I have 4 older sisters. I told my one sister when i was about 10 " I heard a woman crying in our room." I was shocked when she said " oh her, we've all heard her." OK then.

Love this episode!!! Especially because it's the total opposite of "Talking Tina", on Twilight Zone! This one has a totally "redemptive", and beautiful ending!
The young actress who plays Ann is superb. I found her on IMDB--her name is Mimi Gibson and she was one of the hardest-working child actors of the 1950s. Her mother lived off her earnings and squandered all the money that Mimi made.

This series is scary. I had nightmares from some of the episodes when I watched back in the 1970s. I started to watch this episode last night but when I saw the dolls, I decided to watch it during the day.
Out of all the episodes, this one was my favorite. The pacing, ambience, and story telling for a 25 minute window was really good. A great show in general, but this episode stands out.

I subscribed. I am so glad you post the shows of One Step Beyond. It was a favorite show of mine years ago, and probably the most favorite besides Outer Limits. I still like watching them to this day! Thanks for being one with the same interest.

I just found this channel last night,I think I'm possessed, been binge watching 18 hours almost non-stop.
This is a solid story with solid performances. Modern t.v. doesn't do this type of story very well now.

My mother and I were cleaning out some old toys from our basement not long after I watched this. She held up three dolls, and she asked what their names were. I couldn't resist. I said, oh, those are Jennifer, Rose, and Mary! Then I got a bad case of the creeps the whole rest of the morning!!🤣🤣🤣
This episode always reminds me of a reaccuring dream I always had a child about three sisters who would talk to me in spanish. I didn't have any introduction to that language as a child so I didn't know what they were saying, but they were kind (I had an abusive dad), and always tried to help me be strong against evil. I only remember the first letter of ONE of their names... it was an M, but they were Mexican/Spaniard names, and the sisters in my dream were adults.

I have always felt so moved by the scene where the girl is angirly shaken up by her father and is in tears by the stairs. It is done so realistically that I felt I wanted to reach in and comfort the poor child in my arms. It is rare to see such an emotionally jarring scene with a child. Superbly done.

Thank you, PizzaFlix, for this upload. What an absolutely wonderful story, beautifully told and enacted. This is the sort of story that would benefit from being fleshed out and made into a full-length feature film.

Nice to see _'The Twilight Zone'_ alumni Philip Abbott (Paul Burton) and Joanne Linville (Aunt Minna Boswell) in this. Abbott appears as the father in TTZ episode _'Long Distance Call'_ and Linville as the ever-waiting wife in _'The Passersby'._ Both great episodes...

When people talk about supernatural themed shows of the '50s and '60s, they always bring up The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits and Alfred Hitchcock Presents, but for me , Boris Karloff's Thriller and this show were just as great as those shows.
I rented all of these from Netflix, didn't know TH-cam had them too!! Love this!!! And yes, the "Thriiler" shows were great, people these days don't know what they are missing!

I can't recall watching this as a child, yet it was so heart breaking.

No horror movie today can make the hair on my neck stand up. Today they just gross me out with blood and gore. I grew up with TV Series like this one and those made the hair stand up on my neck. No blood, gore, sex or foul language either. Imagine that. Older black & white TV shows and movies are marvelous and awesome.
*Yes! And whoever wrote the musical score deserved the highest musical award. I haven't seen an episode since I was a child, but hearing that music just now brought back memories of how it used to scare me 😳. And I'm 65 now 😯!*
