It's more complicated, and worse, than that. There is very little real gravity on Ceres, and it has been spun up to give the inhabitants a feeling of weight as the floor under their feet accelerates up at them. The bird, though, is in a low-density fluid (air) and is not getting the feeling of push (aka weight) so it is more or less trying to orient itself without the help of gravity. It's more like a fish.
@@TheDanEdwards Centrifugal "gravity" is fun to think about. Falling things go sideways a bit (anti-spinward), how much depends both on the rotation rate and how close you are to the axis of rotation. Even walking around would take some getting used to (the up and down motion as you walk would cause sideways apparent forces). That said, this bird will have grown up in this environment and known nothing else so it wouldn't have much of a problem (unlike the experiments done with pigeons in zero-g parabolic aircraft flights).
Enjoying the reactions so far. Since you are already enjoying season 1, then I'm pretty confident you will love seasons 2, and season 3 is absolutely insane (so much happens). And it is really satisfying to know that they managed to give us a good finale, so I can go back and rewatch the series. I only wish there were more than 6 seasons. Have fun.
The Kenzo actor, Elias, auditioned for Amos. Came down to between him and Wes Chatham and they obviously went with Wes. But they liked Elias so much that they made a role for him. Apparently him and Wes were the only two who auditioned who really understood the character of Amos, so that's part of what impressed the creators.
Amos is such and interesting character, one of the most compelling I've ever watched, and Wes Chatham did a fantastic job of portraying him. I won't say too much so as to avoid getting too far into spoiler territory (be warned if you read on)... But I will say that most people's initial assessment of Amos, one that I think the reader/viewer is deliberately steered towards by the writers, is incorrect and far too simplistic. He's a much more complex character than he first appears, something we come to understand as we learn more about his past and see his character development.
@@Justanotherconsumer Apparently, the hardest job for the costume crew was make sure Shoreh didn't "forget" to bring her dress back at the end of the day

lol The Expanse levels up periodically. 1/8 is definitely one of those.
The spy, Kenzo, verified that he's the spy that Avasarala procured from the guy Davila at the aquarium. Dawes talks a very good rebellion recruitment line. Yes, "Lionel Polanski" is a code name. If nobody has mentioned it yet, the season finale is not the end of Book One. Book One actually ends at the middle of the second season. So, the season finale is not the "grand finale" of the book.
Elias Toufrexis is the actor who plays Kenzo. He auditioned for the part of Amos, but Wes Chatham knocked it out of the park, and so he got the role. But they liked Elias enough to ask him to play Kenzo. Must be an interesting feeling, acting out scenes with the character that you were (albeit briefly) in the head-space of previously.
@@pssthpok In the Ty and That Guy podcast with Ty Franck (co-author and show writer) and Wes Chatham (Amos), they had Elias Toufexis on and it was really fun hearing those stories, and how humble Elias was with Wes being so good for the role. Great conversations on that podcast, everyone should check it out. Wes' antics are hilarious
Naomi is the only character who consistently pronounced Rocinante correctly (in Latin American Spanish). Holden in particular always mispronounces Rocinante. Cervantes would have presumably used European Spanish, which differs a little.
Mary may I suggest that you keep a box of tissues close by. You're going to need them! You find out that the writing on this show is so damn good! Enjoying your journey!
I thought you'd cut your hair 'til you tilted your head down a little. I do like how Avasarala is her own boss. She's usually right about the choices she makes. As harsh as they may seem at the time. "Jimmy liked to think of himself as a knight". Don Quixote has to have been at least one of the authors' favorite books. Probably both of them. There are many themes from that novel (tilting at windmills, for example) that turn up in this show. Even Rocinante. Amos, as you've probably picked up on, rubs up on the outside of being a sociopath. He's not very reactive and when left to his own devices has a lot of moral ambiguity (focused on survival) but he's aware of his emotional lack and in a way does have some kind of empathy. The brothel scene showed the door to his upbringing, and we go through it later, but it shows that this is more trauma induced than anything else. He's also much, much smarter than people give him credit for (in the novels and show). Also, notice that muzzle discipline when Holden walks around him just before the Martians are about to board..the way he raises the rifle so it's not pointing at Holden. It's really hard not to say things that'll give away surprises in future sesasons. :(
She wants to understand his motive. What makes him tick...and This is "The Best realistic SiFi Period, " Hands Down Full Stop. It only equal to to emotional twists and turns would be "Game of Thrones" whose only failing unlike the Expanse was it's poorly written ending. That doesn't happen here. This show could have easily gone on, but the ending was still satisfying.
Alright! You've gotten the excellent stuff out of the way.... now, from here on, it's up and to the right to awesome, unbelievable, and other superlatives beyond the English language.
I'd recommend you start watching clone wars, it's literally the best star wars show that has been produced apart from andor. Just make sure to watch it in chronological order
This show gets SO good in season 3, then falls off a cliff in season 4, when Amazon took over and slashed the budget to the bone. Ironically, Amazon then spent a billion $$ on Rings of Power, which is a trash heap.
Killing a murderer is different from allowing a murderer to kill somebody. Amos is a killer. He is a very very bad person that is currently lost his moral plot entirely. Holden was totally right in there, his possible lack of willingness to follow up on the threat notwithstanding.
The bird isn't slow, it's flying in 1/3rd g. The lower gravity means it doesn't have to flap its wings as often as it falls much slower. 🤟😎

Yeah, one of the greatest tragedies of the Expanse is that we will never see epilogue of book 9 on screen with these actors.
Amazon hasn't green lit the sequel series called Laconia, they are waiting for fan demands

That actor (Elias Toufexis) is a well known videogame VA too. He also recently voiced Sam Coe in _Starfield_ as well 😀
Instead of character names, let's record all the outfits Avasarala wears through the series!
