😅 Good morning Rich,I'm happy to see n hear you up and around again. What page are you n Ray talking with your friends on Wednesdays,I'd like to lesson in on your grate mechanical in put.take care and get well good buddy.❤.
@FordBossMe mr lake speed Jr agrees on the first oil change thing you're talking about here. In fact, he changes it really early then another time before the first 3, 5, 7.5 or whatever thousand mile the manufacturer recommends. He says the manual is ONLY to get u past the warranty period.
GOOD MORNING RICH: I'M happy you are up & around besides touching on such an important topic. Many people think all we do is bat our gums on this subject to get more money out of them. How wrong they are. This is the cheapest way to ensure long engine life at a minimal cost. God Bless & my best to you and your family, TMP from N.J. 😊😊😊😊.
I have been fortunate enough to do the break-in on two vehicle in the last 10 years. Both times I changed the oil at 1000 miles regardless of what the manufacturer said. I changed it at 500 on my Yamaha motorcycle because that's what they said to do. I use whatever oil meets the spec for my truck's engine and change it by 5000 miles. I don't worry about fancy high priced engine oil. Fresh oil that meets spec, changed often, is better than running high priced oil for too long.
Good morning! I hope all is getting better 🙏 I finally found the truck. It's a 2017 f150 5.0 fx4 with 3.55 and 36 gallon tank. Got it with 69k miles, lifetime powertrain, and 302s package. Out the door for $32k here in GA! Thank you for all the tips
Its good to see you out and about again Rich. I know its probably overkill. I usually change my first oil change on a brand new car or fresh rebuild engine at 500 miles. Second oil change at 1,000-1,500 miles. Then the third oil change at 5,000 miles. I can't tell you how many people tell me they buy a brand new car and instantly take it on a long road trip with constant speeds of 80 miles per hour. This is not good for a brand new engine that still needs to be broken in.
I believe in common sense. 2018 Mustang GT w/PP1 - N.B. car has 10 quart oil capacity - I changed my new new car oil at 1,000 miles, Motocraft full synthetic. Manufactures say this isn’t necessary - I’m sticking with “The Old Ways”. Oil changed at every 5,000 mile mark thereafter. I have the Ford dealer do the oil change, partly because I have Ford’s extended warranty, 100,000 miles. I don’t doubt there are somewhat superior oils to Motorcraft - but am sure that Motorcraft full synthetic is a quality product. Also I use 5w-30 instead of the recommended 5w-20. I’m in Texas- summer temperatures of 110°+ are not uncommon. Rich, any thoughts regarding changing manual transmission, differential, coolant and break fluid. I think Ford recommends 150,000 miles for transmission and differential, 100,000 for coolant and “never” for break fluid! Thanks and continued prayers for total recovery.
So my 2016 Silverado 5.3 burned oil right out of the showroom. I have discovered that by running Pennzoil conventional 5w30 the oil consumption has literally stopped. I also have been running a catch can since day 1 and with the recommended synthetic 0w20 the consumption was insane and I was emptying the catch can every few days. Now with the regular Pennzoil everything is smooth and more quiet also. The synthetic produced quite bit of valve train noise. The engine is now very quiet on the regular Pennzoil.
Folks ,if your rings aren't seated in your new car by the time you take delivery, it's rebuild time. Rings seat within about the first 5mins of running when it's done right , so the rest of the break in isn't really much at all except waiting for bearing surfaces to polish themselves in nicely. I'd still do it old school and dump it at 500-1k and fill it with the usual oil it uses.
Good morning Rich, i'm glad to see you out of the hospital and i'm glad you are able to be up and about , i hope you are feeling better and i'm still keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers , please have a blessed day my friend.
Keep safe &healthy. I value your calm &honest commentary & outlook. I had viral version of what you are dealing with now and know how it can knock the wind out of you .I am not a believer but agree with the intent of when you say"Be Blessed" and I add Be Healthy Best Wishes Tim in Toronto , Ontario
Glad you’re feeling better Boss! I remember feeling blah for about 6 weeks when I had pneumonia back when I was young! Yep. 1000 mile oil change to Motocraft full synthetic on my new 2020 Explorer ST, and 4000-5000 oil changes since; with a couple of Blackstone reports in there. So I know if I miss one and go to 6000-7000 (life happens) no big deal. But 5k works out to right around %40-%50 on that oil life monitor. No way I’d plan on going more than 5000 mile oil changes!
Good morning Rich. I am very happy to see you walking and talking and following your doctor's orders.I'm praying 🙏 for you to get well again and enjoy your life .Take care. bodymanbob from Alabama.
Morning rich. As someone who does a lot of keep fit and fen running getting out even for a slow walk round the block is good for the body mind and soul. Small steps buddy glad your on the mend.
Food for thought - On a Fresh Engine with Cam Lube on Lifters and Cam Lobes --- After Breaking in Cam you gotta change Oil Right Away because Cam Lube can Clog the Oil Filter. I always assumed Engine Plant at factory pre-runs Engines and then Changes Oil. I always drop Oil and Filter on a New Car/Truck in around 500 Miles, and Same on Customer Cars after Engine Replacement. I've always been amazed on people not Dropping Oil and Filter on a fresh Engine. Get Better Soon !!
My buddy has a garage and a number of customers with Subaru vehicles were have oil consumption issues with the synthetic oil. They switched them to conventional oil, 3000 mile change intervals. The oil consumption stopped.
Thank you very much Rich for the information that you have shared in this video about common questions. 1000 miles or 1600 kilometers to do first oil change on a new vehicle is something that i never knew. I am glad to see you up and about nd recovering. Take care and thanks again for sharing your knowledge!!!
GTL oils are interesting since its technically Group 3 but closer to Group 4 in its qualities. GTL can be identified by a really low sulphur content primarily but there are other factors to look at too. Not all labs test for things like Sulphur. There is an outstanding Lab in Russia its the Torcon Laboratory they tested for absolutely everything even oxidation which identified Ester Content. But very expensive and difficult to get your sample there.
Cliffy wiffy lol. And it states. 1000 miles (1600km). Do use excessive speed and do not tow until after the first 1000. After that. Perform oil change and continue like normal.
Do that 1st Oil change under 1K and in the drain pan take a screwdriver and stir that oil and you'll see the very fine metal swirl. Hope you are doing well Rich.
Lake was talking about this very subject. He changed his daughter's oil and recommended a change at 500 miles. But, I heard 1k from The Car Nut as well I think I'll split the uprights and change at 750. Interesting Conversation to do a walk and talk with. USN(RET)
Mobil 1 comes factory fill for some performance cars...but any of the conventional oils will work for break in...Toyota offers 10 k oil changes but they started having premature ring wear..i the first OC in my 018 Rav 4 at 1500 hundred miles and then at 6 k..and then the dealer did it at 10 k...Redline after 4 k...and i ran it moderately from the beginning..
Hi Rich, I just bought a 2024 Ford F250 with the 7.3L gas with 500 kms on from the dealership. I don't know how it was driven before i bought it, but i asked the service technician when should i do my first initial oil change. His answer to me was "your first oil change at 6000km and 8000km every oil change after that! I'm looking for other professional opions on when to drain that first breakin oil from the factory. Thanks from 🇨🇦
Ford Boss your still a young man, keep up that walking, I did it my first week last week, I know they say no pain no gain, but I was never a tough guy. You might not feel it right now but in my eyes your a kid!
I remember contacting Subaru because the dealer doesn’t know anything when should I change the oil Subaru of America said at 5000 which I disagreed so I did my first oil change at 3000 jumping straight into mobil 1 full synthetic 5-30 i’ve been running that oil ever since now obviously mobile finally jumped to the GF6, but after watching your videos Rich I decided to grab the Valvoline advanced wanted to go with Pennzoil the ultra platinum series but it’s just too expensive right now so I’m gonna give Valvoline a try.
I searched various automotive owners manuals including the Ford ones and none of them mention anything close to a 1000 mile oil change when new. It's always 5000, 7500, 10000 or when the light tells you.
I finally got the results back from blackstone for my 3.6 pentastar. Using prnzoil platinum all my wear items look insanely low. So i dont plan to send a sample at every change since i keep up with the regular service. Now i will be sending a sample of my bike to see where it stands becuase thoes changes are roughly every 1k miles and the first change on the bike was done before 600 miles which obviously ties into what you said about removing the initial contaminants. The real up shot is no one should have to worry about any malice in the combustion palace with regular fluid service intervals. With modern machining tolerances if there is a problem one would think it would show up fairly quickly within the 36k warranty.
Good morning Rich and glad you’re feeling better and really good to hear the rating on Pennzoil Platinum which I’ve been using think it’s the best oil I ever used! Be blessed and stay well! 🙏🏽
Hope you are eating organic and using herbal remedies. It brought me back from the afterlife! I got the landlords new 19 b%s green lawn tractor. At 14 hours I dumped thick silver oil. Terrified me. I woke up in a sweat and remembered that 30 weight breakin oil would be that thick at warm. I checked it at 16 hours. Crystal clear. Whew!
Lasted as long as you did on my tred mill. Had to put a sending unit on my Chopper. Tired of pushing m/c for exercise. Ha, so joining in on your walk. Thanks
Glad your up and around Rich God is Good. Glad you made this video because it seems like a simple oil change as become a pain. Read your Owners manual and understand what it says. And like you said if your car is out of warranty use what oil you like.
Rich, great to see you at home and out on a walk. The new Toyota A25A-FKS used in the Crown specifies 0W-8 engine oil. To me that's like 8! wow vegetable oil might be a higher viscosity.
While the engine is able to accept 0W-8 there printed manuals in other parts of the world for the same engine utilizing 15W-40 as long as the ambient temperature is above 10°F. This was in a 2019 Camry in the Middle East. We must understand that for auto manufacturers to legally sell a vehicle in the US their are requirements that the entire vehicle fleet must cumulatively meet. Those requirements are CAFE regulations. This is why Toyota like others are increasingly utilizing oils that are very thin viscosity wise. They are not looking at the longevity of the vehicle as much as they are considering what it takes to legally sell the vehicle stateside.
Full synthetic oils (Gp 3 & 4 PAO or above) are particularly good at extremes of temperature. That makes them very useful in your northern winters and extreme summers (FL, TX, CA). As Rich said, mineral oils are spec'd to provide the same required protection when used in temperate climate zones (as apply mostly where I am in Australia).
Great to see you out n about Boss man. I like the walk n talk format, great info. I was having the same thought on the subject the other day while at work. Then I see its the topic at hand on your video. Excellent stuff.
Watched a lot of your videos on this. I cant believe manufacturers can dictate these long intervals so we shorten the engine life span. I did the same with 3 oil changes within 2 years and 19k miles on a 2021 grand cherokee trailhawk 5.7l. I regret it so bad, now that my wife asked me if our new born can have this as her first car I went Amsoil and have a disciplined schedule on all maintenance. Need some material? Check out the new silverado's diesel LZ0 engine. 7500 mile interval. bonkers. I picked one up and did the 1st oil change at 500 miles and just switched to Amsoil at 1900 miles.
the 1st oil change on my ecotec 2.2L was at 500 miles, the cartridge filter had an alarming amount of metal in the pleats. seems to have cleared up in subsequent oil changes; just like the original filter, the VVT solenoids had metal fragments embedded in the screens when I changed them out.
Back in the day everyone understood the breaking process. I'll bet that is a factor in some of the problems we are seeing in these new engines such as the 7.3 gasser from Ford.
Back when I bought the 2016 Eco Diesel in September 2015. After 1,000 miles I hard to argue with dealer to change oil. Finally they did and said it would come off my 10 free oil changes
Glad to see your feeling better? I do the first oil changes on my engines, when new at 500-700 miles? Just me, not wanting to keep running break in material for the full length of a normal oil change interval? I feel an engine is broken in or broke at around 500 miles, personally? People are going to do what they do regardless? Take care.
I agree with you on not trusting the oil life monitor…I bought my 2019 Mustang new….I don’t drive it enough to get the miles between the time frame so I change it before the timeframe not mileage…I’m just not going to chance that oil breaking down because I don’t it enough. I’m not sure if it’s a waste to change it essentially every 2000 or less miles every 6 months but hey…I’m not a gambler!
U are 100% correct sir! I hate the lighter oils they are using. A v8 or v6 with 0w20 🙄 you have to use synthetic or blends with those light weight oils. If u have direct injection or turbo u better use synthetic ! Also better octane gas every now and then to help clear out gunk.
I like this guy. Pure synthetic is pricey and usually overkill. Synthetic blend is a shot in the dark. You can't say for sure how much you're getting. Full synthetic being the safe bet. Regulated. Happy motoring.
Here is something crazy, I own a Dacia which is part of Renault group here in Europe. The manufacturers first oil change is at 2 Years or 20,000 Miles !!!!!!!! Needless to say I did my own first oil change at 1500 miles, the oil still looked brand new, but the oil in the filter has a metallic sheen to it which was obviously from the initial running in. I am sure the manufacturer just wants the engine to last the length of the guarantee which is 3 years 60,000 miles here!
Is yours an LPG engine or petrol only? If its LPG and if you run on that most of the time you CAN stretch oil changes because LPG burns cleaner and doesn't contaminate the oil nearly as much as petrol does. But still id recommend 10.000 miles/15,000km maximum and 5000-6000 miles would be ideal. Which oil do you use? If you change at least once a year or every 5000-6000 miles you can use cheap oil like Mannol and that would still be 10x better than premium oil every 20.000!!! miles.
@@alouisschafer7212 Its both LPG and Petrol Stepway Bi-Fuel TCe 100, we do use it mainly on LPG, but no way am I leaving it that long. I use the manufacturer recommended Castrol GTX fully synthetic 5w30 RN17, the RN17 is specific to Renault
I've owned several new cars over the a few decades and I ALWAYS did the oil change after the break-in period which was anywhere between 500 to 800 km depending on what it was. I think ONE of them was 1000 but don't quote me on that. One of my uncles was an old time mechanic as well and he always said to change out the tranny fluid along with the oil on a new car so I had the dealership do that too. Not sure if it made a difference but I never had a problem with the vehicles and one of them I kept for 4 years.
Good morning, I have a1994 mercury grand marquis with 186,000 miles, I don't have no oil leaks anymore, but I still have to add 2 qts of oil every 2 week. Every time I started it I can see smoke coming out of the exhaust.
Could be a lot of things; worn oil ring, stuck oil ring, rings misaligned, leaking valve seals, bad PCV valve, bad piston. A good mechanic can check it out and narrow down the possibilities.
@@raulaleman8199 - good luck! Hopefully you have a local competent mechanic that can zero in on the exact problem. Be aware, that unless the rest of the car is in very good condition, it may not be worth the cost to repair.
@@davidturk6170 Thank you, I have a mechanic that I trust. My car is in good condition and I've got some offers for it, one guy said he would give me $3000 for it and I said, No! Lol....
Do better than what the manual says because a lot of times the manual is misleading it tells you things like this type of transmission fluid is Lifetime but it doesn't tell you what lifetime actually means and what lifetime actually means is the lifetime of the warranty not the lifetime of the transmission so when you're outside of warranty and that transmission fails it's not their problem anymore so you always do better than what the warranty says the manual is a guideline of the minimum amount of service that needs to be done minimum it doesn't say you can't do better
I have yet to understand why people will go in debt for a new vehicle and then want to skimp on oil changes by either not doing them often enough and on top of that using the cheapest stuff available. Oil changes are inexpensive, engines are sometimes the cost of a car altogether. It's also worth noting that if you buy a used car that has had long service intervals most of it's life, the best way to start cleaning up the mess before it causes problems is 3k oil changes with good synthetic oil along with good quality filters. Done this to a used car we bought 3 years ago and now the oil still looks clean when I change it when before it was dark within 2 weeks after changing it. The engine still runs quiet with no problems and I have yet to add any oil between changes either.

First oil change should always be done ASAP. In my head, it should be done right after the break in mileage is up.

With modern machining tolerances if there is a problem one would think it would show up fairly quickly within the 36k warranty.
Hope you’re feeling great bruv. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Great video and I had my first oil change on my new truck at a 1100 miles rep that wrote it up thought it was not needed. But I agree with you 100%
Good morning Rich and glad you’re feeling better and really good to hear the rating on Pennzoil Platinum which I’ve been using think it’s the best oil I ever used! Be blessed and stay well! 🙏🏽
Glad you are getting better. Have a good day!
So happy you are out of the Hospital!!! Take Care of You!

Thanks
Hope you are feeling well and getting back to normal routine all the best and God bless
Im glad you recovered. After speding a few years at Fort Drum; you can accomplish anything.
Actually they ended up putting us in Fort Polk because they didn't have room at Fort Drum so they disbanded second ACR and gave us their place
Glad to see you are doing a little better
I hope that you get well soon 👍
Glad your up and around Rich God is Good. Glad you made this video because it seems like a simple oil change as become a pain. Read your Owners manual and understand what it says. And like you said if your car is out of warranty use what oil you like.
Rich, great to see you at home and out on a walk. The new Toyota A25A-FKS used in the Crown specifies 0W-8 engine oil. To me that's like 8! wow vegetable oil might be a higher viscosity.
I think they are asking that you use 0W-16, not 0W-8. I won't be surprised if it is 8, they are pushing low viscosity oil with new engines!
@@free2chasehappy The engine bay sticker shows 0W-8! as does the manual: "Engine Oil 0W-8 4.5 quarts with oil filter change"
@@joeythedime1838 open the manual and have a look. Hunch says the oil options are a bit broader than you see under the hood or on the cap.
@@joeythedime1838 crazy!
Absolutely 500 -1000 miles change it ,no questions asked
Your voice and breathing sounds MUCH BETTER Rich
7500 mile interval. bonkers. I picked one up and did the 1st oil change at 500 miles and just switched to Amsoil at 1900 miles.
glad your feeling better boss
Geez, I'm glad you're ok!😊
Take care of yourself, rest up. I'll be praying for your brother. 🙏
Wishing you all the best sir
the 1st oil change on my ecotec 2.2L was at 500 miles, the cartridge filter had an alarming amount of metal in the pleats. seems to have cleared up in subsequent oil changes; just like the original filter, the VVT solenoids had metal fragments embedded in the screens when I changed them out.
Glad you’re doing better!
Glad you are feeling better
Was great seeing you on the stream last night! Glad to see you recovering so well! Love the channel and keep up the great work Rich!

Great video! 👍 Thank God you're getting better 🙏...
Your content on oil is the best btw!
Glad to see your back!!
Slow and steady wins the race. Just keep moving but pace yourself. No sense overdoing things.
I use Amsoil and change it at 1000 miles on a new car… Hope you feel better
@@davidturk6170 Thank you so much David,I really appreciate it!
Lol....
Good to see you feeling better man!
Slowly brother
New vehicle, follow what the manual says. So the warranty isn't voided. Never had a new vehicle myself though
My daughters new civic calls for 0w-20. I believe it only comes in full synthetic.
Rich ,your doing jay walking, as in jay cutler the body builder , he walks his neighborhood and connects with his fans , good stuff
I love that dude
