How To Tie Two Styles of D-Loop on Your Bow String Mike's Archery DIY

In this video we take a close step by step look at how to tie 2 styles of D-Loop on your bow string. We use a basic clove hitch knot to secure the D-loop to the bow string. The basic D-Loop will cinch down and hold securely. It will increase longevity of your serving and string while helping eliminate tourque on the string to create a smoother and more accurate shot. We then show you how to install top and bottom serving knots inside your D Loop using basic over and under knots. We stack them 3 deep to create a secure knot that will not slip or move once installed. These knots help eliminate nock pinch on the arrow. It also will help relieve down pressure on the rest as well as possible up pressure lifting the arrow off the rest. All of this with a properly tied D-loop will cause a more accurate and consistent shot.

I agree with your D-loop length recommendations. If you go shorter than 4", you risk bumping the nock with your release claws. After cutting to 4-1/2", I flared each end with a probe tool, heated the end without burning it, and mushroomed the hot end against a flat metal surface for more end flare. If you let the D-loop end catch fire, material will burn off and may shorten it or make it too brittle.

Thanks Mike, setting up my new Approach I got and been a long long time setting up a new bow. The old epic extreme is still doing the job but I am going out west for elk and wanted to move up from my 20 year bow. Hopefully I made a good choice with the approach. Appreciate all your videos

True dat about reversing the knots. This counteracts D-loop torque on the string. I did it the wrong way and my peep rotated shot to shot.

You don't shoot recurve bows with a release. There's no need to tie a D-loop on a recurve.

@@MikesArchery hi Mike, Sorry not trying to start trouble. I know what a Clove hitch looks like having used it rock climbing, working on commercial boats, teaching knots. So anyway I was just pointing it out. No big deal. The picture you sent isn't what was tied on the d loop and from what I understand isn't what is typically used.
