  • Eli and Oscar interview the great Janet Mbugua on her passion - eradicating period poverty in Kenya. She educates the hosts on the plight of period poverty, the statistical reality on how the lack of sanitary towels disproportionately affects impoverished women and girls, and how men can get involved in facing the challenge of period poverty globally.
We hope you enjoy this podcast half as much as we enjoyed making it, because we had a ball!

When Janet said she is "a rebel and a moderate at the same time" those words resonated. Interesting that growing up, my mum had desiderata hung up on the wall and she would make me read it out loud a few times a week. Little did I know that it was sort of planting a seed in me.

The distribution and sustainability aspect really hit home. For someone who donates pads at different places every year, I am challenged to create sustainability for at least once place. Good stuff Janet. Thank you for making the journey easier for some of us. The policies and frameworks will really help in the long term

Well articulated thoughts whose premise is humanity!!!!! Conversation is flowing, you are having a good time, you are informed and you are still entertained because banter is life!!!!!!
I have been a fan of Janet and Man Talk obvi😝 because such conversations birth a fire inside you, or propel one that was already burning to ensure that you not only live in your purpose but you know how to go about it. Loooved this conversation too much❤

I've always admired Janet, since her time on Tv, I literally cried when she left Citizen Tv I was quite young and she being my role model,I was just not sure how or where will ever watch my favorite news anchor 🥲🤦🏿‍♀️ then when she came into this different space and all that she's all doing, I have grown to love her more 👑😍❤️❤️❤️🥂✨💫✨ I swear I'll want to meet her someday, literally I want to follow your footsteps

I remember the machinery in supplying maziwa ya nyayo - so the goodwill needs to be there to distribute hygiene kits to adolescent girls!

How can we plug in? We also want to be a part of the journey towards 100% access to sanitary pads for all girls

I met several kids in primary school in rural homabay county trade sex for 20bob to get a pad and many ended up pregnant. What took me a while to process was giving kids family planning and parents would take them to the health centres, to prevent them from getting pregnant simply because thats “sustainable” compared to buying pads😭😭.
