45 Hours on a Long-Distance Train - Chicago to Seattle on Amtrak's Empire Builder

In April 2022, my sister and I took the Empire Builder, a long-distance Amtrak route, from Chicago to Seattle. For train trips like this, the journey is the point, and it didn't disappoint.
From the lakes and along the Mississippi River in Wisconsin and Minnesota, the vast stretches of open land, and the dramatic peaks of Glacier National Park and the Cascades, the country unfolds slowly,, yet at times dramatically, and all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride. You get an idea of the sheer scale of this place, and you can see the US from such a different perspective.
