Seeing the Divine Within: Thich Nhat Hanh's Wisdom on Oneness and Compassion

In this video, Thich Nhat Hanh shares a powerful story of forgiveness and compassion. He recounts a letter he received from a victim of the Vietnam War, who narrated the story of a little girl who was raped by Thai pirates while trying to escape the war on a boat. Thich Nhat Hanh explains that while it's natural to feel rage against criminals who commit such heinous crimes, looking at it from a spiritual lens can change our perspective. He suggests that if we were born and raised in the same terrible conditions as the pirate, we would have grown up to be a pirate too. By hating the pirate, we hate ourselves for not doing something to ease the pain and misery others experience in life. Thich Nhat Hanh explains that good or bad are just characteristics of the person and do not reflect who we are. Instead, what defines us is the divine within. Thus, if we look at it from a spiritual lens, the sinner and the saint are one and the same.
