    Simple. Carl Yung is a thinker of the mind and Ramana Maharishi is pure consciousness. The mind the ego doesn't want to stop thinking and pure consciousness doesn't think.

    There is a saying that you should never meet your Heroes. They can never live up to whatever image of them you have created. Just like he said one wrong move on the Holymans part (and not an objectively wrong move, just one that doesn't line up with our idealized version) and he would interpret him forever more as the opposite of Holy. Say they did meet. And it didn't go according to the storybook scenario the thousands of people asking him over and over would create. Then what? He would have to spend the rest of his life answering the same question. Did you meet the Marishi? What did you think? The fault was not with Jung or Marishi. It was the many times he was pelted with that question by well meaning people that sabotaged that meeting before it could ever happen. It was good to hear Jungs words about the incident. I wonder where I can find what Marishi said about not getting to meet Carl Jung.

    I saw a lot of people saying, Carlo Jung didn't go since he is scared. I want to share one true life story here: I was born in China in non religious family. When I was about 10, I have a little stone made Buddhism figure that I secretly worship when I pray although no one taught me. When I was a teenager and later a college student, I wore a necklace carried a Buddhist figure on my neck for years. One day, when I finally came to the US for graduate school, on the airplane when I left China, the necklace broke. I collected all the pieces and repaired and wear it again the first week in US, yet it broke again. I put this in a tin box and decided to fix it but it was just disappear mystically. All I want to see is that you don’t know what you don’t. For those who judged Jung to be scared or just intellectual rather wisdom, my suggestion is that, you meditate and find yourself in silence. West and East religious beliefs are different and they both hasve so much wisdom and origines that we don't know. But heart is sincere and thoughtful then you will find god. Regardless how many centuries it takes.

    He did not meet Maharishi because he was not ready. One cannot meet these holy men unless one is meant to do so. Westerners, even ones like Jung, are at an incredibly immature spiritual level and meeting the saint might have destroyed him.

    Most certainly Jung was eluding to the shallowness of grand Indian narrative of divinity and mysticism as well as hollowness of saintly personalities from India by referring to the greatness of common Indian man submerged in materiality and worldliness and still trying his level best to balance between spiritual, humane and practical- which is 1000 times greater than anyone like Vivekanand or Raman Maharshi or Krisnamurti in many ways who are lost to their spiritual juggling. In nutshell Jung was fully aware of the supernatural jugglery of Indian mystics. Also being a psychologist himself Jung was more into facing own demons head on rather than altogether forgetting or dissolving own self into void or advait.

  • @salman6254
    @salman6254 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I don't think you really understood Jung. He saw meaning in the contradiction between the cosmic self and the Chthonic self, which he saw iN Maharshi's student. He saw the true self to be in the overlap between all these contradictions. Just being Holy and discarding the world and going a strictly ascetic route was not how you discover the Gold within you. The tree is a powerful symbol, it rises up to the sky, yet it buries its roots deep in the earth. He saw that perfect balance in Maharshi's student, so from that he can assume that Maharshi has himself achieved the same thing. In order to rise like the mystics want, you also have to bury your roots deep, it's only within those overlaps of shadow and light, conscious and unconscious that true individuation occurs. Destruction of the ego and realizing the oneness of everything which we call enlightenment is only one step in the process of individuation. Mystic enlightenment is not a higher goal than individuation, it's just a necessary step on the way. This is why Jung said that Maharshi's student may have surpassed him, because he was both enlightened and of the world, truly individuated, while maharshi may have just been enlightened.

    100% agree with this message. We have created a terribly snobbish society that has conditioned us to link happiness with material accumulation. It is also deliberate and by design that we are made to feel that we 'need' more, and that no achievement is ever good enough. Such a tragedy because so many wonderful and talented people are out there feeling like failures. It's an abomination.

    Jung was as enlightened as any mystic and he was a vastly educated one at that. And as he said, you can meet the spirit of Ramana in any aboriginal sacred tradition and culture throughout India and elsewhere. As In the working family man that was his guide he attributed more esteem to him than the need to see Ramana. And Jung studied alchemy. If that is not a mystical study. what is.

    Jung needed to find enlightenment in his own way. To visit an Indian holy man would've been like jumping to the last page of a book. He needed to read the whole book first, only then would he be ready to receive enlightenment, which would be as a result of his own unique journey. It was this very natural process he called individuation. Jung was not a man who put much faith in short-cuts !

    Jung was a great writer! Also, probably he didn't choose to meet RM for the same reason why he never experienced hallucinogens. He had his own overwhelming experience confronting what he termed the archetypes of the collective unconsious. He almost went insane, and his writing for his life gave rise to the Red Book. No desire to stir the pot even more than it had already been stirred.

    imo what Jung failed to realize, was that in dissociation with the person and ego, one does become both the absolute subject and object at the same time. my experience is such that in dissociation ‘I am’ the witness (that is to say the absolute subject), which is the ‘field’ or ‘space’ or ‘realm’ of consciousness in which all objects arise. whenever an object arises, the very act of witnessing causes the subject to momentarilly arise as well. as such the subject is intrinsic to the object in the same way in which the painter is in the painting. when the object of observation then subsides, ‘I’ again recede back into no•thingness.

    His argument doesn't actually sound convincing. If he had doubted Ramana Maharshi's uniqueness, he should have put his doubt to the test in the form of a personal encounter. To just doubt and use it as an excuse not to, feels more like a rationalisation. What was his resistance? Fear, his ego? His whole approach is way too intellectual. He could have cut the BS and just went to see for himself, and then come to a real life energetic perception of what Ramana was about. It's all head nonsense and ideas with Jung.
