Bait and Switch Lures for Early February Bass: Micro Finesse

- In this early February 2024 adventure - the day after the ice finally cleared from Arctic Storm Finn - quite a few Z-Man Micro Finesse and Finesse lures performed well during a short float tubing trip to a public pond in Henry County, MO. All the fish caught were bass - it appears that the bluegill are still asleep. Enhanced with MegaStrike attractant, Tiny TicklerZ, Slim SwimZ, GobieZ and Micro Chatterbait worked quite well. Rod/reel combos were "Ultra" ultra-light which made catching the fish a lot of fun. Enjoy the show and Go Chiefs!

Hi Don, Love your “ultra light flip-t rods” and a good idea that you brought along all the bait and switch lures. Each one is really going to be a lot of fun as the water warms up. Thanks, Sis. I had things to do in this area that day and the weather was so nice (and the ice had melted overnight) that it begged to check it out. It was fun to find a bunch of bass hopping on the various lures I brought along. With this warm spell the only thing left is to fill these impoundments up with spring rains. Thanks so much Virgillio. This excursion was sure a positive experience. Although we still have low water levels in the impoundments hereabouts, it was encouraging to find fish biting. I'll be doing a performance feature on those new Gobiez later this spring. I think they will be very good. Peace and thanks again, Don

Thanks, Rick. It sure felt good to feel my line get yanked. Those U2L2 rods I was using are very sensitive and fun, but I'd never bring them to a big bass puddle! More raunchy weather ahead, but that's what this time of the year brings. Best of luck for you in 2024 as well. Don

Got to get out before March 7th, hip replacement surgery. Going to be down for about 3 months, then backing tubing. Just in time for summer!
@rickbrown7067 Rick, that hip replacement sure doesn't sound like something to look forward to. My wife had a hip replaced about 7 years ago and it was the new minimally invasive type so she recovered pretty quickly. All these wonderful surgical things are our reward for all the years we've had on earth. God bless and a speedy recovery, Don

Hey, Jeff, you can never have too many of the micro finesse family of lures. I basically ran out of time to throw Shad FryZ; they are so good! I think z-man is just now introducing the 2024 line up so I'll see what looks interesting. Thanks again, Don
Nice. Suppose the pond is over stocked catching that many bass all the same size? Enjoyed watching.
Thanks for the comments, Jack. Agree that the pond has too many bass. They aren't skinny though so there's a lot of food. I think the big population of bluegill that can spawn and hide in the hydrilla helps. There may have been some bigger bass but a number of folks fish it and may have caught them for food. It's still a great pond for float tubing. Best wishes, Don
Which Megastrike scent do you use, the original?
I’ve had a lot of luck using squid scented baits & it makes me consider the squid.
Aneed, I use original scent (no squids in W central Missouri). To stay warm, the solution is thermal underwear and insulated waders. Best wishes, Don
