  • Popular mainstream TCL C745 TV can show impressive contrast thanks to its full array local dimming (FALD) technology, but it is not listed under that name in picture settings. This quick video shows how to enable it.

    Note: analog inputs, 3.5 mm jack and CI interface were not circled in the connectivity section - final render ended up like that, even though it was correctly done in the editing software. I've rendered the video twice, but to avoid publishing the video even later, I released this version. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Could you please make a new test about the new Sharp FQ series tv? You were the only one on TH-cam who had a proper test of the EQ series and it helped me to buy that tv.

    Local dimming work in game mode whit vrr disabled ?

    My Philips 50PUS7906 has that local contrast setting. With off , low , medium and high settings.
    But I don't think the TV has full array local dimming. I've had it turned off since I bought the TV because I didn't know what it does.
    My TV also has a setting called local Lima control which I have disabled because I don't know what it does

    Hi,
    first off you have great videos. The full video on this TV helped me a lot and the TV is at least very good.
    A) Wanted to say that my C745 has now both the contrast and dimming setting, maybe from a software update? (in europe)
    B) You said in your other video that sharpness above 0 adds artificial sharpening, but Ive tried for days now and think so far 30 is best. 4k content on both Netflix and my Xbox is blurry on 0. Am I doing something wrong here?

      Hi! Thanks for your comment. Here are my answers:
      A) Which software version do you have - I'm currently at V8-T615T03-LF1V603.000847 and it says it is the latest
      B) I've rechecked this and on test patterns 0 works best for me, but if 30 looks better to you, keep it. At 30 the amount of additional sharpening is not so intense and anyway this control is individual.

      A) If I understood it correctly (it says "product Information") I'm on V8-T653T01-LF1V098.000861
      Interesting...
      B) I see. I tried test patterns too and they imply settings lower than 30 too, I just didn't like it in "real" pictures but all that doesn't really matter because as you said it's preference...
      Thanks for rechecking and your answer in general! Awesome to hear from an actual pro who knows his stuff.

      So same as I saw on TCL flagship 115" model this week - ignore local contrast, just use local dimming.

    You did some calibration on Philips pus78** and you didnt turn on the local/global dimming. Why?

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because that model doesn’t support it.

      @@TVguyDarkothat was brutal 😂 that's why I love your channel, no nonsense just truth, I had a Panasonic TX850 but just bought the TCL C745k on your advice and for just gaming this TV had mad features that most more expensive brands do not, think I paid about a grand for the Panasonic, love the brand but the 4k Sony Bravia downstairs was acting up so I swapped my Pani and got the TCL, thank you mate, my wife would have done me in if I started spending mad money and couldn't believe how good the TCL was until I watched your upload on it, I am definite that our phones listen to us all the bloody time as it popped up in my feed and not the first time, my friend and I at work were on about getting some new Nike and Puma trainers and next thing both of us have adverts for the trainers, many more incidents but no coincidence, your guide had helped me immensely so thank you, I just read the comment, which imo sounded rude, and you put them in their place and I have to clean the coffee off the wall I spat out laughing at your reply, you made my day, respect from Ireland 🇮🇪

    tcl p635 has a local contrast to the settings.Should i turn it to high?

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      P635 doesn't have true local dimming so this setting can only do something on the software level (adjust gamma of the image, not really to improve the contrast). Therefore, you should turn that option off. On C805 which has true local dimming this control doesn't do anything which is strange, but probably due to TCL having similar software package across different TVs.

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's strange indeed. Have you checked some dark scene, does it do anything visible to the blacks and overall brightness?

    • @hypoman1
      @hypoman1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it does give darker blacks but very artificial. My tv was having problems and they repaired it by installing the 745 firmware on my 735 tv.

      The tv is now much too bright and i doubt it is making the picture better.

    I just tested this with my PHILIPS 50PUS7906 with the creator on Disney+ in Dolby vision.
    Blacks turned to grey on the whole screen. It made it look worse.

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey - your TV might have a control called like that or similar, but it needs to have hardware capability to do local dimming. From what I see in the specs, your TV does not have it, so for sure that it won’t give the same result as I show in this example.

    • @Steve30x
      @Steve30x 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TVguyDarko I'll probably be getting rid of this TV anyway. I've been very disappointed with it since I bought it. I love the fact it has Dolby vision but it's missing picture settings and now it's started showing dirty screen effect which is getting worse by the hour this morning.
