  • Housing crisis is one of the biggest social issues in Ireland at the moment. Figures reveal an estimate of 10,000 homeless people and 72,000 households in social housing waiting list, which roughly represents a quarter of a million people. Government’s housing program "Rebuilding Ireland”, launched more than two years ago, has not meet its goals, quite the contrary there is growing evidence that this scheme is making things worse.
The situation is not just though for the homeless people, but to anybody who is renting or has the interest to do it, as prices have increased a shocking 75% since 2011, with average rent now sitting at €1,304 per month (in a country with a €2.300 average monthly net salary).
On the one side, grassroots organizations are emerging and it is said that social movements are gaining momentum in Ireland. People have taken the streets in Dublin twice in 2018 and activists consider this a sign of hope and change. On the other side, more and more vulnerable groups are affected by the situation and are forced to live under inappropriate conditions.

This short documentary was filmed in December 2018 and includes footage from the National Housing Demonstration in Dublin and an extensive interview with former Dublin City Councillor, Éilis Ryan, who greatly summarizes the current state of things.
This short doc is independent work to visibilize the housing crisis in Ireland.
