    The Zulu 39 over the Black Bay GMT for sure.

      This is like saying I’ll take a Porsche 911 over a V6 mustang. It’s embarrassingly obvious to everyone except the worst of the Tudor (or Mustang) fanboys. Except for the analogy to be the same a V6 mustang would have to cost more than a 911. That shows you how crazy the Tudor cult is.

    • @mariog7213

      If the Zulu time is a 911, the Tudor is definitely not a v6 mustang. The irony of this comment is hilarious

      @@mariog7213 so you’re thinking mustang too generous? So maybe a Tudor is like a Pontiac Aztek or something. I suppose that’s a bit harsh but I can see that. Point taken

    I think that this Longines GMT is stunning and would be my pick over the Tudor even if they were the same price. This is a stunner. I really like the black bezel, the green bezel and the steel and gold two tone.

    • @Greygoose3130

      Of course- to me the Zulu on appearance is a class (or two) above a Tudor. The only people that can’t admit that are the most die hard Tudor fanboys. But I think people are starting to wake up to this. Most of the wild Tudor hype over the last few years has just been because people can’t get a Rolex and so somehow they think the are buying the next best thing, which of course it isn’t. It’s still just a blocky boring looking watch that is overpriced. The Zulu is sexy as hell.

    Six months ago I was very anti-sub 40mm. A 39/40 Ginault and a 39 black bay pro have changed my mind completely. Neither watch is too small for my 8.25 wrist. I still love my 41mm black bay Chrono and 41 mm BBGMT. But 39 is good to go. The Zulu GMT is super nice looking at represents a heck of a deal. I could wear either and be proud of it.

    After some super nice friend let me try one of these on over the weekend, it's next on my list. I liked the 42, but thought it was just a bit much, but this 39 is just right. Longines just seems to be on a roll these days.

  • @anthonystevens8683
    @anthonystevens8683 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I had a look at the larger version last year and was very impressed, it looked great on my 7" wrist. With this new smaller version I think it would certainly open up the possibility of the watch for smaller wrists even though those male end links extend the effective lug to lug but they do drop down steeply so I would suggest as always try it on before making a decision. If I didn't have a other GMT watches in my collection already I could be easily tempted to pull the trigger on either size. The only slight complaint was that the bezel rotated in hour clicks and that's fine most of the time but some time zones do not have a full hour offset such as Mumbai who I was working with at the time I saw the 42mm version. The Tudor GMT has this covered but as you mention that is a more expensive watch and thicker as well. Tool less micro adjust would definitely be a plus as well and it's nice to see more bracelets having this feature but I do understand that this will add cost. Many thanks for sharing.

    Great review! Just got myself this same variant on a cruise at a discount over the weekend. Enjoying it so far! Had to figure out the GMT function as this is my 1st GMT. I must say I got confused by the “3rd timezone” thing I saw online. I’ll stick with my 2 timezones, thank you very much. The dial is clean and legible. But yeah, I wish the bracelet was quick-adjust. Other than that, I’d say this is a really nice piece! :)

    I have the 43mm version of this same watch with blue dial. Yesterday I tried on the 39mm black dial with bracelet that you reviewed here. 43 wears a little big. 39 wears beautifully but seemed a little thick to me now that it’s downsized, but wears
    thinner than the Tudor equivalent. Not sure how I pulled it off but I got the 43 new b/p for $1750. Don’t think I’ll see a deal like that on the 39. My only other complaint on the 39 is they don’t make it with blue dial. But if the 43 is too big for you, the 39 is terrific value and feels premium. Thanks for the review Bruce!

    Would much rather give up the quick-swap end links to get female end links, and the improved wearability Would also prefer they drop the outside AR coating. Use the money from both of those changes to put toward a clasp with on-the-fly micro adjust. I would prefer the security of a flip-lock style clasp, but at least the new HydroConquest GMT has on-the-fly adjustment - at a lower price. The 42mm is a good size for my wrist. I get annoyed with the true gmt argument. Whether it's a caller or a traveler gmt, it's tracking 2 timezones. So for me, they are both true gmt. Come at me bro! 😂

    • @rousseau327
      @rousseau327 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "True" GMT is probably not the right term for it, though I understand why it somewhat caught on. While the original GMTs would be what we consider caller GMTs now, given the GMT movement being originally designed as a traveler's/pilot's watch, the jumping 12-hr hand is just easier to use (or more "true") for the use-case.

    • @BruceWilliams
      @BruceWilliams  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Haha tracking another time zone is the least exciting part of the movement. The best part is being able to adjust the local hand independent of hacking the balance. Perfect for traveling, daylight savings, or adjusting the date at rhe end of a month. To me a dual time just doesn't come close!

    Great review but unfortunately I had a terrible experience with Longines (Swatch Group) customer service related to this watch. I purchased this watch and then wanted to purchase the steel bracelet so I called Swatch Group to order it. When it arrived, the bracelet was defective with a loose screw holding one of the links. I called Swatch to return the bracelet the next day, which they said was fine. After the returned bracelet arrived at their warehouse, they refused to honor the return because the packaging the bracelet came in was opened. Not sure how else you are supposed to look at a product you order besides taking it out of the box. After this experience I would never buy a Longines/Swatch Group product and I will be selling my Longines Spirit Zulu Time GMT. Buyer beware with Longines and Swatch Group.

I love the numerals on the dial but the weird ring with the diamond shapes ruins that for me, I dislike the winged hourglass and don’t get me started on the 5 stars. The things it does better than the black bay pro is it’s thinner and the gmt hand is less distracting.
    I’ll group it in with the grand Seiko quartz GMT’s as having a bracelet that needs throwing away but once you have the grand Seiko is so much nicer. So for me the bb pro comes out on top with the grand Seiko close behind in 2nd place and the longines as a non starter.
