What an absolutely stunning piece. Unreal. Grand Seiko never fails to amaze me. So happy I purchased the SBGA413 recently aka my first GS in my collection. Super thorough and thoughtful review as always Bruce, love your content so much!!
So the things that GS are famous for are refined finishing, technological innovation, and dials. My favorite dive watches look very tool-y, think Pelagos. While I think that there’s a market for refined divers, it feels like GS’s bread and butter is in their fixed bezel designs. I wish that they’d focus on improving their bracelet design. Additionally, when it comes to spring drive, the best next complication would be a perpetual calendar.
I must say it’s mot the best looking GS. The dial is really nice. The bezel looks too big and the bracelet too narrow. The whole package just look weird
GS hasn’t peaked, but they need to sort out their sports watch design. Great for some, too polarizing for most. I love and own some of their other lines, but I have yet to see anything in the sports line that I would want to own personally.
Wow man! Thanks for the review Bruce! You always review great watches! It’s pretty cool that they made this out of steel and not titanium. Gotta love that grand seiko finishing on stainless. They do it the best. The hi beat makes it so special. I really want one.
Interesting take. I love Grand Seiko, I own an SGBW269 and it’s as good as any watch I own if not better. For myself, my interest is focused on the Elegance line. I also like their more understated watches in a 44GS case. Their sports watches don’t do much for me, I find them over the top. That said, it’s no doubt impressive what they have put together there. The colorway just doesn’t work for me, but I surely sparkles. The watches from this series are simply too much of a good thing, too blingy. I believe their use of faceted, hand polished and hand applied indices is the heart of their design language. That’s perhaps all their watches need to have surprising wrist presence at least from my experience. As a general rule, photos and pics don’t do their watches justice. Not from my experience at least. Very impressive mono a mono.
To me this is a one watch collection for the big fella that wants to smile widely every time they get off a plane or schedule a meeting. Razor sharp. Let's add the value factor when compared to say....I don't know...a GMT Master II? Sick watch!
I don’t like how the bezel color is divided. I understand that they did not want to break to be in between the numbers, but it looks symmetrically off. It’s also 2023. Where’s the quick micro adjustment clasp?
It's a lot of watch for the money . You're just getting so much in every way and yes, you're right Bruce. It's only really on the fly adjustment that's missing. I've a bigger wrist size like you and wanted a grand Seiko for a while. Very tempted but the limited run means I can't think about it for too long. However, only just got the Omega 60th anniversary Bond watch , the wife might kill me!
Great video as always Bruce. I'm surprised though... No matter how many GS reviews you've done and how many times you've had to hint at the lack of on-the-fly micro adjust on their releases...they still keep producing 'average' bracelets without this feature. Surely one of their incredible artisans can come up with a new clasp/on-the-fly micro adjust.....they've created some all time great movement technology so the micro adjust should be an easy invention by comparison
I had a chance a chance to try on this Sea of Clouds edition at my local GS Boutique. It is absolutely amazing. I would have bought it immediately, but it was already sold earlier that day and was awaiting pickup. I highly recommend it to anyone who is even slightly interested.
I know the trend is small right now, but I'm starting to like big watches like this again. Been wearing a 42mm Zenith and Speedy lately. 44mm might be at the very edge of what I can pull off, but I'd love to try!
For a GS, it’s kinda’ blingy, and although not for me, I like it a lot. Like you said, Bruce, it’s horological art! Next time I’m at my GS AD I’ll definitely check it out (and see if my 7” wrist could handle it)!
Until they fix their shitty bracelets they won’t peak. I would go nuts over a grand seiko if they’d properly fit a clasp to a watch and make it feel nice!
@@romteb at this point regular seiko 5 sports bracelets fit and feel better than grand seiko which is sad. I don’t understand why they have so many different types of clasps. The Astron clasps would be great but they refuse to use them on any other watches besides the astrons.
Wow! At 40, I bought a Speedmaster. Love that watch to death. 45, I was thinking Rolex. For the day to day, i'm rocking a SBBN037 Blue Tuna Marinemaster. Incredible watch. I'm 41 now, and the more time passes, the more I'm thinking Grand Seiko instead of Rolex. Do you think there will be a Spring Drive Tuna in the future since the Marinemaster name just been revived? If not, I would go for the 4 seasons Winter edition Spring Drive.
Just like most GS, great finishing, awesome movement, beautiful dial. However im just not a fan of their sports collection. I find these watches a bit too large and thick, also the bezel appears too large for the case. Finally, the lack of on the fly adjustment on a sports watch is unacceptable in 2023/2024
Gorgeous watch! Is there a functional purpose to the polished (assuming steel) ring that divides the crystal and bezel? I haven’t noticed this design used in many watches
Beautiful watch. Not a gmt guy, but many are. A lot of the cost is the high beat movement. More than a spring dive watch. Love the look, and disign of that one. I am more of a sport/ diver guy. I have a sbgp015. Unique gs sport watch. Actually thinking about trading in a sd dress watch for a sd diver. Fits my life style better. I am developing a love for the mm300. Addiction? Have a 039, and 059. Havent bought, than flipped, than regretted yet😂 Great review! Thanks
9S mechanical movement. I wouldn’t mind a spring drive as well, but I just don’t like too many extra features inside the dial, simple the better. Also, take a trip to Ginza Tokyo and buy it there, the money you save will cover the flight.
The Godzilla was the best thing that ever happened to them and now that case shape only comes in a non-customizable version with an unappealing dial cover.
This one is pretty good, but I will say I have not really seen anything great from Grand Seiko since the white birch. That was an excellent watch but everything since has been pretty dull.
Way too big, do the Japanese think all western market are built like Arnie! Most sports models gs are ridiculously big, I just don't get it, they would kill it if they made more subtle sports models a little more timeless looking thinner bezels, plus, their monetary value drops off a cliff the minute you walk out the shop, I hate to say it but rolex has them licked at the moment not that I'd want one of those either. I have 7.25in wrist and they're too big for me the gs are a little too showy too much wrist presence if only they made a little smaller 40mm or so quartz diver would be nice. I would have bought a rolex sub 10 yrs ago but don't want to waste my time playing games with an AD the crown has fallen. That said I hope GS get their act together and surpass rolex in the future.
I've had the blue dial version of this. Yes, on paper, it's big, no doubt. However, it wears great... it really does. The lug length, the case curves, the cushion case, and it all works. I have a 6.75 wrist and on paper this watch would be too big. But when I put it on, it's Seiko magic. One really needs to see and try on in the metal. Their case engineering is remarkable.
I am no longer so interested in Grand Seiko watches. It's getting boring. All they do is change dials and then attach some fancy names to their dial description in their marketing campaign. The lack of innovation is killing it imho.
GS has definitely peaked. It’s a one-trick pony on repeat. They exaggerate how special the zaratsu polish is. It’s not that special tbh as many brands can offer the same. GS is just good at marketing, hype and creating illusions.
Seiko has way to many releases every year , it honestly destroys the value on their Grand seiko lines . They Depreciate horribly .just wait a year and get it half off
One of my favorite aspects of the SBGE (and J) line is that if you ever run out of dinner plates, you can actually just use your watch.
Yea he lost me at 44-50. Just ginormous
Yeah this watch is not for 11yo girls
Multi functional!😂
Lowest form of humour is sarcasm. Clear sign of a fool. TH-cam is full to the brim ❤
@@Bredes1not for 6 ft 2 and slim 90kg guys like me either. Get over yourself 🤡
The peak was the sbge275 aka iceman. The dial, the movement, the bezel, pure perfection. 🙌
I agree. That dial is stunning. Also, while hi-beat is cool, GS is synonymous with Spring Drive. I believe every GS should have that movement.
What an absolutely stunning piece. Unreal. Grand Seiko never fails to amaze me. So happy I purchased the SBGA413 recently aka my first GS in my collection. Super thorough and thoughtful review as always Bruce, love your content so much!!

I will forever love the OG of this line (to me), the SBGJ237. Though not for everyone, these are just strikingly beautiful watches.
That's a gorgeous dial. I have the SBGE253 spring drive GMT model and absolutely love it.
Excellent

Although I had doubts about buying a replica watch, gussl dispelled my doubts. The watch has an authentic look and feel.

Love the original SBGJ237 but TBH this series is a small wrist killer, I can’t even handle this.

Even being 44mm?
Yes, though I wear larger watches. ~46mm is my comfort zone.
I love my SBGA413, but cannot understand their whole Sport Collection.
Seiko and GS need to step up their bracelet , clasp game. At this point 500 $ micros are owning them in that department.

It’s hard to find a GS that isn’t “blingy” that’s kind of what they’re going for
Until they fix their shitty bracelets they won’t peak. I would go nuts over a grand seiko if they’d properly fit a clasp to a watch and make it feel nice!
These bracelets feel like a 100$ watch one, can't believe how much people give Grand Seiko a pass for their crap bracelets at this price point.

I'm not sure. Traditionally they offer a 1000m SD tuna. But it's more of a niche market. I would expect a SD in a more LX models
GS does gmt better than Rolex for sure. Lumed bezel and 24 hour chapter ring 👍 so much more useful.

Oh man I have owned 6 mm300s. I can't quit them
What a beautiful watch!
Would you prefer the SBGJ or SBGE275? I have the option to get either... at the same price no less.

Great video.
Beautiful watch, but just too big and chunky for me to consider as a sports watch on my wrist . I would rather go for the Evo9 Mistflake.
I'm a GS fan but the proportions of the bezel to the dial look way off to me here
This one is pretty good, but I will say I have not really seen anything great from Grand Seiko since the white birch. That was an excellent watch but everything since has been pretty dull.
Grand Seiko bracelets feel hollow and there “titanium” feels like tin
Stunning watch but the diameter is a little too big

Facts. GS kills it on dress watches, they need to be more svelte on the sports watches. Tentagraph was BIG on the wrist.
@@polygoncocoThey fit Spring Drive into 40mm cases. It’s entirely possible for them to produce a 40mm dive watch.
have silly pre owned watch prices in general peaked is the question??
I think the used market is going to be rough for swllers for the next year
No they haven’t peaked. Still can improve braclet and clasp and size of case
I am no longer so interested in Grand Seiko watches. It's getting boring. All they do is change dials and then attach some fancy names to their dial description in their marketing campaign. The lack of innovation is killing it imho.
Beautiful watch but too thick. If this was at 12 MM, it would feel much better.

No, they still don't have on the fly adjust on bracelets.
Nice
Too Big :(
Gs peaks 5-10 years after a model is released lol.
This needs to be smaller
Lol the über cliché Kanagawa Wave as a deskmat. What age are you? 5 ? 😂
GS's bracelets suck. There, ive said it.
peak = stolen design from seamaster summer blue series
again too big and too thick
