    This might be the best general zoning tutorial I've ever seen, really gets to the mindset you need when zoning.

      Hey thanks! I have another couple from SF5 that are worth a watch too! Oldies but good ones!

    Thanks lads. This one was tough, only because it was originally about a 25 minute speech driven tutorial, but I just felt there was just far too much to cover. The problem with zoning is that there are so many variables character wise in SF4, some matches are completely different from others.

    @TotalSagat  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    One thing I forgot to mention. If you guys want to watch any of the matches with the high level players in the video that I used as demonstrations, I have an imaginatively titled playlist called - High Level Sagat matches on my channel where you can find all of them.
    For the most part zoning isn't just about these individual plays, but the bigger picture of how they work together.

    You have by far the most useful tutorials for a new (and advanced nonetheless I bet) Sagat player. I would have played him stupidly forever without this video. Thanks man!

    I just discovered this video yesterday. This video is fantastic. Thank you so much for making this, you did a great job. I wish I had found this video sooner!

    Wow this is such a good video. Really really good informations. It can apply with SFV too. Thanks !

    HighlandFireball,bringing the good stuff as usual. i'd subscribe twice if i could buddy. Nice one. I used to rely solely on fast TS and only last week started dabbling with using slower TS. U explained the utility of the various speeds very well. I also loved the spacing by zones. I'm almost annoyed SFV is coming out...im just starting to get the hang of this beast, lol.

    Thanks for another great video. Could you consider taking a look at safe tiger knee setups?

    Thank you for making these videos and explaining the concepts in them clearly and in a straightforward manner. Many videos from this era are simply a dude rambling into a bad microphone, but your videos are extremely helpful for me; I am trying to get into Street Fighter after being introduced to fighting games through airdashers, and Sagat's beautiful lame ass is easier for me to grok than some of the more technical or aggressive characters.
    You might want to clean up the "high level sagat matches" playlist on your channel, though - several videos are missing and there is a random toy review in there as well.

    Very informative video! I'll admit, I don't absolutely understand everything you said, but a bigger concern for me I think is that I really haven't been playing USF4 much lately, so I gotta shake of my rust in general.

    Glad to see you're still uploading videos, they've been an absolute boon for me.
    I'd like to point out though: Isn't f. lk -1? This means you will eat a reversal ultra if you don't space it well enough against a grappler.

    • @TotalSagat
      @TotalSagat  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gleb Spaghetti Yeah, I guess by safe I meant it's unpunishable in 99% of situations. You wouldn't use it against a grappler anyway since they are a cake walk for Sagat most of the time (apart from Hakan). That's if they could even react to it! It's a great weapon in zoning, as no one will crouch block against Sagat at the mid range most of the time. You score so many counter hits from it, it's almost silly.

    Great matches on the playlist. (kinda surprised u had fuudo playing galtuu in there... Fuudo was lucky on that one, lol.) went back and watched Daigo Vs Bonchan on AE. I swear everytime I watch that match I learn something new.

    • @TotalSagat
      @TotalSagat  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ali Jaidy Ha , Fuudo's Sagat isn't flash, the reason that one is on there though, is because Fuudo in my opinion is one of the best spacing players in the game and what's good about that replay, is not how good his Sagat is, but watching how he uses some of the same universal techniques in spacing. He does a lot of things that are buried in his gameplay that transfer to Gat. It's very interesting for me to watch how other good players choose to control the character movements. He very rarely chooses to move back for example, a common staple for poorer Sagat players, they always want to move out of the way.

    • @alijaidy8097
      @alijaidy8097 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Total Sagat didnt pick up on the " rarely moving back" thing...will have to rewatch it. You do raise an interesting point though...never thought about it that way, hence, the only character i play is sagat and the only vids i watch are sagat related...didnt see much point in watching or playing other characters to help me improve, but i heard that it helps. Thing is...when i look at my road in getting to where i am now with sagat (which still isnt that good) and all the time spent gettin there, i just thing maaaan, i seriously cant be bothered...especially when the other characters dont really appeal to me.

      +limearrr The games a little old and I started a bit later. Perhaps if Sagat is in SF5 then this channel can become a Sagat bible in the future! Thanks for the comment though!

    I have a question about Sagats much tighter links.
    How does one consistently get the jab,H.Tiger Uppercut. For me it comes out once in a while but not consitently enough to be useful.
    On top of that what about short, short, jab, h. tu.

    • @TotalSagat
      @TotalSagat  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matsura Have a look at my execution video for some tips on those. For the jab, you mean two two crouching jabs then uppercut? Linking crouching jab is a one frame link. A possible way to make it easier is to plink the crouching jab with the select/back button. If you have a stick you can map select to another button on the face, then when you plink the jab with select it will turn it into a easier 2 frame link. I realise though not everyone is willing to do technical changes like this.
      This is how Bonchan links his cr.jabs, he plinks them with select.

    • @ChelseaFX66
      @ChelseaFX66 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      With Select? thats amazing man. I will check out the other videos

    • @ChelseaFX66
      @ChelseaFX66 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      what button layout would one use then?

    • @TotalSagat
      @TotalSagat  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess if you have a 8 button stick, you could shift all the buttons to the right and use the first button next to the jab as select (rewired). I've spent so long with my muscle memory that I just time the cr.jabs and if I'm having a bad day, I'll cancel into the fireball instead of the uppercut, thus leaving me with a block string and not a whiffed uppercut.

    Hey dude. you are fine? . I'm very scared when it comes to zoning. because I always hold back and when the opponent jumps I can not do the DP. Simply does not come out, do you have any tips on how to behave with your hands or fingers on the joystick to easily make the DP in the neutral game? Thank you. Great video.

    • @TotalSagat
      @TotalSagat  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can pump up and down the dp motion, I think they used to call that the Sagat shuffle. That way it looks like a fireball but is also a DP. In SF5 if you are having trouble when holding back , just use st.hk, it's an awesome anti air.

    • @arthurpires6298
      @arthurpires6298 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Total Sagat up and down? as well ?but my problem actually is that I can not handle normal pokes and fireball buttons knowing that anytime the opponent can approach in some way like balrog for example with dashes punches, and so I hold back and I can not do the dp when the opponent jumps. I really wanted to know how the finger has to stay on the joystick.

    1:16 Can you still use the technique for kara hk tiger shot in SFV?

    • @TotalSagat
      @TotalSagat  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep you can, but the speed of the shots in 5 is worse so it makes the timing different ( and not as powerful)

  • @ccvector

    At 5:57, was that a medium or light tiger knee?

    • @TotalSagat

      Mick Krongchon think it was medium mate, amazing how quick you forget! Light knee used to only use in the corner
