I try to always pay it forward almost daily, if possible & these people were willing to steal from someone who was vulnerable & unknowing what was happening 🥺 I let my 2 girls (16 & 20) pick where they want to give. They know what to look for. It’s a blessing to know you’ve made someone’s day without wanting “video” credit for it. It really is the little things that matter. There are that few that do the right thing, and much respect to them. As for the rest, this world has gone to shit. Really respect the dude that admitted, that he has it on him. There are ppl in some serious debt/money problems. But he f*cking admitted it and gave it back. And I could see that he was ashamed of it. My blessings.
This reminds me of when I had nothing and the first and only time I ever stole. I was about 17 years old and living in my car. I snuck into some wedding reception that had a heap of people coming and going and I was able to get a meal. There were all of these catering people around and I found their storage room with all their wallets and phones etc... I looked through every wallet until I found one with more than one bill in it.
I remember opening the wallet and seeing this woman's ID and her eyes literally piercing my soul but I still took one of those notes. I needed it to survive. It literally saved my life because it set me on the path I am now.
Over the years I never forgot that woman's name or face from the ID and I still feel immense guilt when I think about it. A few years ago I turned 30 and just cracked 7 figures in the bank. It's amazing how much you can save when you're used to living off nothing.
I looked up the catering service and she was still working there after all this time. I rang the reception and tried to spin some story about needing her address to deliver a package (sounds creepy now I think about it haha). They wouldn't give it to me but said I could drop it off to their office.
When I get to the office they say she's out working but I can leave the package with them. I tell them I think it's really important so I'd rather give it to her in person and they let me wait in the reception because it's near the end of the day. I get to talking to the receptionist about the woman and she tells me how the woman is the most hard working person they have there and how she works so hard for her children.
I'm literally tearing up at this point and the receptionist is rightfully getting a bit freaked out by this weirdo who wanted her staff member's address and needs to see them in person. Thankfully the woman shows up moments later and it's like a shock wave hits me when I see her. That guilt I've been carrying with me all these years is about to be absolved and I burst out in tears.
I'm able to splutter out how I stole $20 from her nearly 15 years ago and I need to pay her back with this envelope I'm holding. She says it was so long ago but she remembers not being able to buy smokes one night because she thought misplaced some of her money but now it all clicks for her where the money went. She said she remembers because that's the night she decided to quit smoking and actually thanked me for stealing the money.
Even after me admitting to stealing from her she had such a kind soul that she thanked me. I said she deserves this more than anyone I know and handed her the envelope and walked away. I had no more words.
I gave her a 200k cheque. I still feel the guilt. I don't believe people when they say money can't buy happiness. It's done exactly that for me over the years. What it can't buy is a clear conscience.

Im so glad i was raised to not be a thief. Raise my kids the same way. One of my proudest moments as a parent was when my daughter seen an old lady forget her purse in a shopping cart.
