  • I’m so excited to share a very special spot with you inside Carrizo Plain National Monument today! Typically known for its beautiful Spring wildflower superblooms, this park offers a wonderful, culturally rich and rewarding hike to see prehistoric Native American rock art up-close just a few hours north of Los Angeles. Join me along a journey to Painted Rock in Carrizo Plain, where visitors can experience a truly unique rock formation adorned with ancient indigenous pictographs.
🚨 DISCLAIMER: Although I would have loved to share video of the pictographs themselves, please know that you won’t find any footage of the rock art itself in this video, which is honoring the request of the Native Americans that still use this site for ceremonies today. You’ll also notice that some video clips have been blurred. The BLM has asked that the graffiti markings from the early 1900s are not shown in visitor videos or photography. However, I do share footage of the surrounding area, which is beautiful, as well as all the details on how to visit for yourself...which I highly recommend!
🚨 ANOTHER DISCLAIMER: NO DRONES WERE USED IN THE FILMING OF THIS VIDEO. Drones are strictly prohibited at the Painted Rock area in Carrizo Plain National Monument. To obtain the elevated vantage point in some of these clips, we used our Insta360 X3 on an Extended Selfie Stick. Below are links to purchase on Amazon if you’re interested.

Painted Rock is located within the Carrizo Plain National Monument, approximately 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles and about 50 miles west of Bakersfield in the Central Valley. The monument spans over 250,000 acres, making it one of the largest native grasslands remaining in California. Painted Rock itself is situated near Soda Lake and the Goodwin Education Center. Accessing the road that leads to the Painted Rock parking lot and trailhead requires a gate access code, which can be obtained through making advanced reservations for either self-guided or ranger-led tours on Recreation.gov.

The rock is honestly pretty awe inspiring. It sits prominently in the wild flowers/grasses. It's an impressive view pretty much the whole walk in. If you come to visit, be respectful of the cultural and natural significance of the area.
You got some really cool shots!
