The Protector has him using it. Great scene. Obvilusly it has many moves that are not allowed in MMA and other sports. Probably why Thailand fine-tuned Muay Thai Boran in such a fashion as to be a national sport. Ive seen multiple sources say Boran is as old as the 1600s or 1700s, I have not verified this for sure with Thai people(besides Tiger MT/MMA website, but my online research suggest Boran and Muay Thai were part of the original "Muay Thai Boran" Art that the Thai soldiers used. When deadly techniques are removed and it got "safer for competition" Muay Thai was the result. But Boran has a flying headbutt haha pretty cool. But dont think thats allowed in MMA or sport Muay Thai
@@randallmcgrath9345 Muay Thai is just the sport version of Muay Boran much like Karate or Taekwondo competition relative to the art itself.
@@finhas8865 indeed. Tiger Muay Thai/MMA and other sources say it came about as early as the 1600s. Boran is older than I assumed before learning this.

Yes, but facing a person armed with a knife while without weapons is already difficult, imagine multiple people with swords and spears, the chances of survival are almost nothing.
Muay Boran was born mainly to support armed combat with strikes and grabs, or to defend against unarmed people when weapons were not available. If you lose your weapon or it breaks, you pick up that of a fallen enemy or comrade rather than go without it, it is common logic and soldiers do it even now.
In addition, Muay Boran has evolved during times of peace and has developed techniques suitable for competition but not to defend and survive if your life is at risk.
Nowadays Muay Boran does not teach defense against weapons when you are empty-handed, and in the rare cases where it is done, including in Krabi Krabong, it is an unrealistic defense.
This is also because art has been watered down over the years by wrong training methods that create an altered reality of combat, see my video "The Defects of Muay Boran" to find out more.
I have nothing against your comment 🙏 I just don't like when an aura of mysticism around Muay Boran is created, which doesn't get backed up by practice.

I love the ancient way/art. Their lethal way, if I had an opportunity I will learn such an art. I have done karate, which was easily available at my locality. I fill martial arts should not be modernised..

That's not true, there are some good Muay Boran schools outside Thailand, also, I offer an online course and many books to learn.
If you truly love the art you can train even without a Muay Boran gym, just make sure to complement the training with other combat sports and martial arts 🙏

Yes, with "fists" (Mahd) the whole arm is implicitly included, from the fingers to the shoulder.
Some masters call Muay Boran "Gaaiawuth" which means "The whole body as a weapon", which is a better definition than "The Art of 9 Limbs".

Which style of muay Boran you practice
It is called Modern Muay Boran, it is a style that I'm currently developing. It takes the best from the style taught by the World Muay Boran Federation and from Muay Korat, Muay Chaiya, Muay Lobpuri, Muay Thasao, and others, all reformed under modern fighting and scientific knowledge.

Is it possible to learn Muay Boran online and become a good fighter?
It depens, if starting from 0 you can definitely learn and train the basis and try to learn and train the advanced concepts, which will be key in becoming a good fighter, but eventually you will need to train with a non-cooperative opponent to really be able to fight. If you have prior fighting experience it should be easier to learn and apply.

You can travel to Thailand and study, or you learn Muay Boran Nam from my TH-cam channel, books, and online course.

I'm so sick of people comparing Lethwei to Muay Thai and saying how Lethwei would destroy Muay Thai in the streets. They don't know about Muay Boran. Nai Khanom Tom defeated 10 Burmese fighters in a row. Lethwei has headbutt? So does Muay Boran. Heck they even use shoulders and even have ground fighting! Burmese stop using ropes on their fists that Muay Boran practitioners were still using. Lethwei is deadlier than Muay Thai? Lethwei started using tape and gauzes, while Muay Boran would dip the ropes and wait for it to dry, hardening it. Muay Boran was so dangerous that King Prachao Sua had to stop it and created the way more watered down version, Muay Thai.
Why don't they compare this vs Lethwei? That is if Lethwei would even survive.
