Someone got an A+ in shop class in grade school. I was lucky to get a D+. Fabrication of these blinds shows a great talent for inventiveness. Since I have too many thumbs to do this, I will have to stick with my reflectix. Chrysler should sponsor you since I bet many people are now looking at the minivan as a way to economically get into the RV lifestyle. Keep up the good work. Your followers are growing.
Thanks r g! I'm not a good craftsman but I am creative and resourceful and I have a lot of time on my hands. Lol. Btw, I also made that table in the video.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I really liked having actual mini blinds in several of my RVs over the years. They are the only thing I know that can keep direct sun out, while letting the light and the view in. I want to use your window box idea to install some in my downsized RoadTrek Chevy Express van. The hard part is the curved walls of a van rather than a square box.
Wow, these blinds are absolutely genius! There’s nothing lazy about making these! Your video was suggested by YT so I watched. Then I subscribed bc I’m sure I’ll see some more innovative ideas from you. I am retired & plan to travel full time for a while to see our country just as soon as I downsize & get rid of most of my belongings as my lease is up at the end of the year. Now I’m trying to decide if I will do it in a used minivan, a cargo van or a small RV. Cheers,, Mo in NJ
Thank you so much for the kind words. I hope I don’t disappoint. There are upsides and downsides to van life in a minivan. I’m cheating because I don’t actually live in my van. But if I were going to live in a van and if I could choose the size, I’d go bigger. I would still want it to fit into an average parking spot at Walmart while also being able to stand up inside. You won't know how important that is until it’s gone. That’s my humble advice. Best of luck! Keep me posted!
Great job using "cellular" style shades! (some call them honey comb but Hunter Douglas calls them cellular haha) I think it is great that you create attachments that blend in with the van interior instead of sticking out like a sore thumb as the old saying goes! Great job!
You are a very resourceful man. I don't ever plan to make nor use these but I find it entertaining and it's ingenious of you to come up with these hacks. I think it's awesome. I love watching someone find solutions for situations that think "outside of the box". I am curious as to what your background is. Are you an engineer? Are you a handyman, Mr. Fix It? I had a friend who was able to fix ANYTHING! Whatever was broken, he'd find a hack! If all the thugs and crooks could spend their energy and time to develop things that would benefit people, this world would be a better place for sure.
So impressive!! But I have a Dodge Grand Caravan and I can't imagine how I could do this. You have definitely given me something to think about. Thanks.
Absolutely brilliant! I'm never going to do this for my Toyota Sienna because I just don't have the patience, but I greatly appreciate the time, effort and ingenuity that you put into this project. Great job Sir 👍🏽😃
Well, I learned recently that on 90 degree days, in direct sunlight, the plastic of these blinds does not hold up. I guess these are better for fair weather use. But I already have some ideas to remedy this. I guess this is what research and development is for.
I was sooo looking forward to this video to see how you fabricated those blinds...i WANTED them lol but after watching this..i can't have them :( I have a 2005 Town & Country that does not have those roll down side windows ....sooo i'm back to square 2 (i have reflectix) I hope i can somehow create a blind though since i seen how awesome it would be to have them. Thanks for the idea train lol
Try looking into a pull down black out shade. They’re much easier to work with and cheaper. If you’re not afraid to poke holes in your van, tons of possibilities open up. Here’s a link to something I found last night. It’s not perfect but it might give you some ideas. amzn.to/2Z5PDAS
@@VantasticPacifica Thank for the ideas...i also found these late last night...not sure how i'mma do it...but it's gonna get done lol www.amazon.com/dp/B000SDROMG/?coliid=I1CYRNN25J82HL&colid=1JIZBICZI4QB1&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
@Vantastic Pacifica ok, so, I just watched several of your videos beginning with this one. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how simple this is yet it has pretty much everything you need for road trips. I love your window blinds AND vents! I know you said how difficult the blinds were to make but I still think you’re crazy for not mass producing!!! Van life has exploded. Can you imagine how many ppl would love to have those window blinds? Anyway, new sub here!
Thank you for the sub and the kind words. These blinds would still need a lot of research and development. They work great in the winter but I haven't used them in the hot summer months yet. I'm more than happy to let someone else work out the kinks. I just want to drive. It makes me happy just knowing my ideas may help someone.
thank you very much. this is the best idea I think I've seen when it comes to inside the car window covers. they don't insulate, but I am not looking to insulate so they are prefect. quick and easy once they are in place. I wonder however if anyone did them in black so that they can be less likely to be seen from the outside. more stelthy. I don't think they'd come in a darker color. Maybe just spray painting them?! Any thoughts?
Well they're black on the inside so they block the light. You see the blinds from the outside but you have to look closely and that's fine for me. I don't think spray-paint is a good idea. This is a flexible material like paper and it moves a lot. I can see paint flaking off over time and making a mess. I would have gotten black but I couldn't find any at the time.
Hey, congratulations! I love this car and I hope you will too. But I did not love the Stop & Go. That's the feature that shuts your engine off every time you come to a stop. You can disengage it by pushing a button but you have to push that button every time you start your car. I found a way to permanently disengage it. let me know if you think I should do a video on it.
NICE! BTW the wood paneling you used for the frame is called wainscot, usually an oak. Sooooo.......trying to figure out how those work in conjunction with the really cool vents you showed us on another video? It appears you would have to remove the blinds to use the vents, and then remove the vents to put the blinds back in? Maybe I'm missing something.....or maybe you could design something that incorporates the vents and blinds in one pattern? Thanks for the video it was pretty awesome seeing how it was done!
Thank you so much for the great comment. You Sir, are very observant. To answer your question, the vents actually take the place of the glass. They fit into the window track and can therefore be installed right alongside the blinds. That said, because the frame for the blinds is so wide, it blocks most of the vent, rendering it less effective. I happen to be working on a video for the vents today. But just for you, I’ll include a bit with the blinds.
I carefully used scissors. After multiple mess ups, I got better at it. The blinds I used were called Allen and Roth. I got them from Lowe's. I found similar ones on Amazon and put a link in the description. But I really would recommend working with something less expensive. Maybe even regular blinds instead of the cellular kind.
It's mostly a function of the expensive blinds. They hold themselves up to be kind. But even if they did not, there’s a little knob that fits into a slot. It fits in right, then twisted tight. This keeps them from dropping and also keeps them from flopping. -Warmest regards, Dr. Seuss.
You claim to be lazy then spend time and effort to make these units work very well. I would not call you lazy. I would call you innovative, necessitated by the desire for simplicity.
No, I’m not.. But I've been to the Philippines many times. I love it there and I like to think of it as a second home. I miss it whenever I’m not there.
Hey I have been hearing about the "Logan wanna be friends comment" and I saw you got one of these and at first I thought it was a TH-cam bot checking on you because you recently got monetized (which again congrats) how ever it was way more deadly this user hacks you however I don't have the info on what it hacks (I assume your revenue) but basically I'm telling you to delete the comment and block user, get youtubes help and maybe warn other small channels (because it only targets small channels).
Interesting. I figured it might be something like that. It's not the only one like that I've seen. I'll look into it. But I haven't been monitized yet. There's a sort of application process that's being slowed because of Covid19. Google is short staffed.
I checked on this and it looks like you were right. It was a major hacking attempt. But it looks like youtube has already dismantled it. I can’t find any “let’s be friends” comments on any of my vids. And one of the accounts I was dealing with has been terminated. Thanks for the heads up, bro.
Yeah, I tried curtains first in a previous build but I just couldn't get them to work right. Part of the problem is my unwillingness to drill holes in the car. Also I don't have access to a sewing machine or sewing skills. But I have plenty of power drills and saws. Sometimes you gotta work with what you got.😁
Vantastic Pacifica nothing major yet, I’ve done some cosmetics like the rear bumper protector (top of the bumper) the mats of course, tinted windows & just keeping her extra clean. Waiting for the rear deck spoiler extension to go on sale and possibly get the window visors ala’ Japan style. LOL

It’s not plastic. It’s a type of wood paneling. So instead of molding, it was cut with a jig saw. I explain in the video @ 7:04
