Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity just recently got a full translation released online! It's really good! It is the full PSP2 plus an extra story chapter with another girl guiding you among extra stuff.

the dungeons were what really frustrated me as playing them in first person was hard for me to see and mapping them was anything but fun. i had a blast playing phantasy star 4 on the genesis and still have my original cartridge.
Such a shame that Sega/Nintendo/PlayStation are not capitalising on how popular this franchise is with re-releasing the games in HD on new consoles with online features..
Heck me and many fans are in the process of begging Sega to release a HD Remaster/Rerelease collection of the Phantasy Star Universe Trilogy consisting of both Phantasy Star Universe, and it's sequel/expansion Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminis, and the DS Prequel Phantasy Star 0 complete with the entirety of all three titles' single-player offline story-campaigns including letting the 2nd half of Ambition of the Illuminis's story-mode be playable offline, along with extended story sequences, and new story sequences for that one post-game epilogue quest where you fight Mother Trinity, and Dark Force a 2nd time in Phantasy Star 0, and if possible fixed/updated online features.
I love the Phantasy start universe, I wish we could get a modern Phantasy Star that plays more like the classic/turn base jrpg or star ocean-esque/rogue galaxy.
fantasy star 3 was my first ever rpg. then i played zelda: link to the past. a few years later i played growlanser 1. those are my top 3 rpg and most memorable games

You should make a list for the best JRPGs that were on Sega consoles. After all I know there were plenty of good yet underappreciated JRPGs for those systems like; Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force etc.
I'm glad PSIV was #1, that game is fantastic. It's up there in best RPGs ever for me, along with Chrono Trigger and Cross. I know it was the finale of the original 4, but I really wish SEGA would make a Phantasy Star V, or something related to the others in similar style to IV within that same universe. Even similar graphics. I loved the music, the fighting style (that's also why I prefer PS II over PS1 and PS3), and I thought the anime-inspired, manga-like cut scenes were a really cool addition that made the characters even more likeable (and a creative alternative to using FMV). Great list! I see Phantasy Star 1 didn't make the cut, haha
Ophelia Claymore Universe Saga was good especialy PSP2 The only down side some of the boss either got nerfed hard(Dark Falz 1st form and De rol le was soo bad), or got buffed hard(Im looking at you The Moatoob version of De ragan you were a pain to fight) Ooh and the story and character were also down side, like why the f#$k Lumia turned into a b!#ch??? She was innocent in Universe and Illuminus Also the Timeline of Universe Saga is: Universe->Portable 1-> Ambition -> Portable 2 -> Infinity
I live in north america. I have only played the first 4 and phantasy star online (1.0 // 2.0) many years after the dreamcast no longer had online subscription services. I had no idea beyond fan made rom hacks that there were more than 10 official variants.
Phantasy Star Universe. Ambition Of The Iluminous has a private server currently working (not 100%. But hey, you can play it online!) Just search for PSU Clementine on your browser and you should find it
Sadly I never played any of the originals. I didn't get into JRPGs until the PS1, and wasn't much into emulating, but I I think they're on Steam now, so I need to get around to playing them. PSO was my introduction to the franchise and online gaming in general, so its my default favorite lol I played the Gamecube version as well, but I agree that it felt better on Dreamcast. I couldn't get into Phantasy Star 0. It felt redundant and not nearly as enjoyable as the PSP games. Speaking of which, I really liked the first PSP game, but never picked up any of the followups. Phantasy Star Universe is a mixed bag for me. On one hand it had my favorite gameplay, which was brought over to the PSP games, but on the other hand I did not like main character lol I never played the sequel/expansion because of my opinions of Ethan, so the fact that you said he became an amazing character in that one blew my mind lol I may need to find a copy now lol
Is it bad that I want another turn based, Phantasy Star? I guess there is little that can top PS4 but... Idk. PS4 has such a great atmosphere... The newer games look nice (I'll try them someday), but there's something charming and unique in PS4 that I feel not many games overall achieve. Or maybe it's just a game that hit right into my soft spot. Like Megaman hitting Yellow Devil right into its eye.
Based on this video, I figured I'd do a quick online search of my local game store for anything Phantasy Star. Universe was available for $10 on 360. I was surprised/bought it right away. Haven't played a Phantasy Star since Online for Dreamcast way back in the day.
Anyone else wishing, since they seem to be on a remake/remaster craze... that they would do the same for the Phantasy Star Universe games and bring them to modern systems?
I would love to see all the Phantasy Star games put into one timeline. I think PS Universe, Online and Zero are set in the far future or an alternate timeline. Give us a PS 5, no DLC. I want more adventures against Dark Force. 1-4 were the only ones I actually played. Can we make this happen? Phantasy Star as a whole always was a little underrated. The timeline order of the main 4 games are 1,2,4 and 3.

I enjoyed 2 but those dungeons were massive this was before gamefaqs was around I remember I got lost in the dungeon looking for the recorder for over 4 hours and died all that EXP and money gone.
Thanks to the pandemic I've finally been playing old "bucket list" games. Like most kids who grew up with an SNES, I saw Phantasy Star as a poor man's Final Fantasy, and decided that before even trying it. I'm Dumb. Since I have a negative bias, I'm picking the one Im most likely to enjoy. PS4 here I come.

I only have the first 4 phantasy star games on the sonics ultimate genesis collection... The first 2 are ok I need to get to the 3rd 1 and the 4th 1 is the best so far.. At least to me and also I havnt gotten into the second 1 that much so but I played the first 1 and I dont want to play it again
i used to hate Emilia as well, until i did a Bad Ending playthrough and realized being sarcastic makes her extremely funny to be around. shes really just a character you have to appreciate in a certain light. that light is just that shes a whiny brat and a Brainless Wonder.
Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 & 2 for gamecube. Hands down the best and most iconic Phantasy Star game ever. You really missed out. 2nd in place is PSU. This list of yours personally makes me sick to my stomach, but it's what you grew up with. It's very unfortunate to have been a PS fan and not experience the best one at it's peak.

Now that you have a Vita I suggest you try Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity. Use DeviFoxx's guide from PSO-World.com, the story is better, gameplay is revamped and Nagisa, the new Star is a million times better than The B*tch Emilia. Try Phantasy Star Nova too it's a side story for PSO2, gameplay is awesome and is one of the best among Console and Handheld ARPG Phantasy Star. It won't dissapoint and almost all NPC party members are a million times better than The B*tch. If you have a PC try Online 2 there's a SEA english version. Vita version requires currently 32-64gb mem card for updates plus VPN depending on your IP. It surpasses the hype and expectation as a sequel to Online. It also features the best Characger Creation and the controls are perfect in both Keyboard and Mouse Combo or Vita Controller mode. PS Phantasy Portable 2 is the reason why the current Phantasy Games are not localized. It was one of the most pirated game that showed Sega a reason not to continue localization.
Ambitions is a bit obnoxious, as it's only the ps2 version that has offline play, the xbox 360 version is online only, which is obviously long since dead.
Ps online 1 and 2 #1 all day. Game changed my life. Very upset it's not high on the list but I respect others opinions. Universe sucked compared to it IMO

I liked that saga only issue I had was I had to go online to do the 2nd half of Ambition of the Illuminus' storyline aka PSU: Episode 3.

I like phantasy star 1 better than 2 . 2 just feels incomplete and lacking. But i have to admit 1 was a primitive compared to the later titles
