What a great comment on caution. The best horsemen have fewer accidents because they dont take stupid risks to prove anything. They take on the real problem horses but learn to know where to be in relation to the horse - that isnt fear or lack of trust - that is experience.

I have listened to every single disk in this series, and if you walk away from those 7 disks only having learned this one thing -- those seven hours would have been worth it. This can be applied to almost any area of your life. Knowledge is power and can replace fear.

That is beautiful... I wish I had met Buck back when I bought my first horse who was a green broke 4- year old off-the- track thoroughbred-- who loved to buck me to the moon! I spent years overcoming that kind of fear he speaks of, with pure persistence, self-will, and crazy blind love for that horse. But it also instilled in me that fear Buck describes. I have never heard it talked about that way before and deep down I kept waiting for a solution. It was very much a feeling despair because I could never totally enjoy him and I always felt I was letting him down. The worst part was knowing I could have been a much better partner to him had I known the things Buck could teach. At least I know he loved me and appreciated my efforts 🐴❤️🐴❤️🐴.. I still miss him terribly.

I am learning Buck's methods from a friend of his, Joel Connors, and I can honestly say that every time we work with my horse I see a noticeable change. It's as if Honey is thanking him for his leadership and consistency and asking for more. The changes are sometimes small but I notice them. I am learning to communicate with my body and not my mouth and that every movement from me means something to Honey. In order to communicate clearly I need to move less but with purpose.

i was never afraid of a horse until i got my 5 year old Morgan mare, she's almost killed me. she had an intense rearing problem and was bossing me around. you're method has been the biggest blessing for us Buck. if it wasn't for you i can't even bring my self to think where we'd be. =)

I just bought an 8 yr old stallion draft mix from the sale barn less than a week ago he scared me, we are learning each other and everything I thought he was he isn't. now he isn't broke and he isn't perfect but this "crazy" stud isn't crazy at all he is just unsure and we are bridging a gap

We have a barn full of horses in several different stages of training but one filly hasn't put fear in me but deep caution. She will rear and try to come down on you, kick, bite and charge then she can flip a switch and be a kind sweet, wiling filly. I've failed her for two years and am now wondering if my "caution" isn't bordering on the "fear" side. I sure wish I could send her to Buck, he would look good on this big filly with the flaxen mane and tail :)
Thanks Buck for sharing your wisdom.

Buck talks about fear and despair. Buck may not be frightened or despairing but the horse bucking with the saddle is certainly full of fear and despair.

I'd be frightened if I was riding young horses like this.

Neil Davies those filmed are all green broke colts. Inexperienced riders should invest in Experienced horses. The old saying Green on Green makes black and blue. And there is wisdom in choosing the right horse for the rider.

@ "And there is wisdom in choosing the right horse for the rider."
Soooo very true. I like Buck and I understand what he is saying about fear. I wish I could say "I can ride any horse", but I have to be honest, I would never say that because some horses are too much for me to handle. Matching the horse personality with the rider is essential.

I have never YET felt the slightest trace of fear toward any horse. I can't say this will always be true but I hope it is. Caution? Respect? Yes. Fear? No. Not yet.

I don't think people should be afraid of any horse. I do think a person should be able to recognize where their limits are and find horses right at the end of their limits even if they need help from someone like Buck to get them started pretty soon those horses raise their limits.

I'm not afraid of no horse either BUT I wouldn't ride just any horse. I wouldn't ride a horse that I felt I would need a helmet for. I would first make sure any spooking problem that might make them buck is gone and they gained respect and hooked onto me and did all the ground work first. I go through more steps then most people do when starting a new horse. BUT I don't wear a helmet or a vest my 1st ride because I KNOW I got all the bucks and the kinks out before I even put a foot up.
