@Hollow Skull Everyone can have their opinion on the actor's/actresses skills so I'm not going to argue with that :) For me he seems to be the best male actor of his generation ♡ And about the speech - I have to admit that I don't totally agree with all his views but he has a right to express them like everyone else, doesn't he? And I sometimes feel that people tend to think of the actor and his roles as one and simply forget that Joaquin had opinions like that (on veganism, climate change, racisim in the film industry and etc.) way before "Joker". @Hollow Skull he’s alright? How many movies have you seen? Joker? Joaquin is up there with the likes of DDL, Tom Hanks, Gary Oldman etc. Not a level above or below.

So glad you did this video about Joaquin from his directors’ perspectives. This man has been a hidden gem for way too long. Those of us who love movies realize that although we might not love every movie he’s made, we’re still guaranteed that Joaquin will deliver a remarkable, nuanced performance that will linger long after the movie’s over. The success of Joker has probably terrified him since he can no longer fly under the radar and he’s officially considered an A list celebrity now. KD 228 I totally agree with you. I have watched his other movies and even thought I am not a fan of all of them his acting always blew me away. His performance in "Joker" is no exception. It's a performance with its own uniqueness, very different from his other performances. He is probably not used to be under the radar but, god, he deserves it so much!
His work in the Joker was his 4th academy award nomination (granted, his first win), the first being for Gladiator 20 years ago... I would hardly say that he is just now being recognized for his acting. He has been considered an A list actor for decades at this point.
He was thrust into the spotlight in 1993 when he made the infamous 911 call as River ODed outside Johnny Depp's night club. He and his family have never flown under the radar, as much as he might want to.
That's must have been very hard but also enjoyable in a way - to have so many great options :) Look up some interviews with "Joker's" editor Jeff Groth who got nominated for an Oscar for his work on the film. He talks about the process quite interestingly 😊
Exactly! Joaquin is a genius actor and a muse. We can only hope screenwriters are up their task. I'd also love to see him in those great classic plays by Shakespeare and the like.
Joaquin's shoulder and lip defects have always added an incredible amount of character, to the character lol. Before I had seen him in more than one movie, I thought that maybe the lip was makeup and prosthetic. Same with his shoulders. It adds such texture to the film.
That short montage at the end when Joaquin did many entrances on the talk show set in Joker. Each one different and funny. No wonder Todd Phillips said they took months to edit the movie. I wish they showed all the takes! What a great actor.
Watching Joaquin is his "prime years" has been quite amazing as a fan of movies. He is undeniably one of the greatest actors ever to grace the big screen. Master at his craft.

I have to agree - it's definitely one of Joaquin's best! He barely speaks throughout the whole film and yet manages to express so many emotions through his eyes, body language and etc. The whole story is also very touching ❤

One of my favorite actors. He not only is unique and amazingly talented but has a real knack for picking the right roles and movies. He is one of the few actors where you don't need to tell me who he is playing, what the movie is about, what the genre is, who's directing it, etc. Just say "Joaquin Phoenix" is in it and that's all I need to hear. I'm paying to see it. I wonder what his brother River would have also accomplished if he wasn't taken too soon. And I wonder if they would have ever done movies together and what that would have been like. RIP River.
James Gray explains Joaquin genius perfectly with great insight. PTA also. This is why Joaquin is my favorite, he is the best actor with a unique creative pulse and The Master his magnum opus.
Loved both of the films he did with PTA. I didn't think he could top Freddie Quell, but his Joker was outstanding. I desperately want more, but I'm not sure there should be any kind of sequel.
One of his best acting scenes is in The Immigrant when he is expressing his shame and guilt to the woman he "helped". It does not get mentioned much compared to The Master etc.
Van Sant said River was confident and Joaquin was not. Not that either of those things are bad, just different. I would've loved to see them work together in more than just after school specials.
@@bryanmmusic You have to consider that when Joaquin first worked with Van Sant, he was 20 and returning to work just a year after his brother's very public death, which Joaquin was witness to and which garnered him a lot of attention (some of it negative) from the press. River was my idol because he was so eccentric. It was tough for me to watch Joaquin in the early days because he always lived in River’s shadow. But when he made Walk The Line, I felt he’d finally become his own person. And now he’s turned out to be one of the best actors of his generation. I loved his performance in that Woody Allen film. ...or audio, in Her (2013) :)
I'm not if it would work, or is even in the interest of each of them, but I'd love to see Joacquin Phoenix and Quentin Tarantino work together. That film would be sickkk

12:20 I need people around me like this guy to describe how remarkable my efforts are when or before I die
Always a great director gus
River said that Joaquin would be a better actor than him. Both good actors but he was right.
Very low key but played brilliantly.
Best actor in the World, no doubt. And probably the best actor who existed.
😊❤
Dday best
