    First to comment! Because Geoff is so cool! We used to have Tuna Republik in Bacolod but they closed down! I loved tuna republik and even gave Geoff a rare Discount card! Glad to see they honored it.

      If I am being honest here, I completely forgot I had the card when I paid at Tuna Republik. 😂

    hi geoff,
    thank you so much for enjoying, appreciating and endorsing filipino foods..
    since some tourist are still afraid of filipino food cuz what comes in their head are balut or isawor exotic foods or innards..
    for a foreigner who enjoys dinoguan, ill give you a many thumbs up..
    try to find squid kinilaw, when the squid is super fresh it has a sweet taste..also try the pomelo there in davao, they have the sweetest varaities there..
    welcome to mindanao, which where i lived and is 380kms away from davao, my hometown is the city of water falls and swimming pools..😊😊😊
    more power to your channel!!

    You have such a democratic sense of taste. It also looks like you are hitting the right places to try regional cuisines. May all your travels there be safe and rewarding for you. Hopefully, Filipino cuisine gets more and more recognized. Vlogs like yours help - small steps to leaps in the future.

    Kinilaw is my no. 1 choice, no.2 is bullkachong. I can finish 2bowls alone. Seriously. 😂😂 and Rekado is just 2blocks away from our home. Glad to know that you visited our city. God bless.

      Thank you so much for the kind words. I didn't expect much from Bulcachong but was pleasantly surprised how flavourful it was. Rekado turned out to be a gem. Loved everything I had there. Thanks for watching!

      I'm from Davao living here in the US! WHAT IS BULKACHONG?

    • @PureDetour
      @PureDetour  ปีที่แล้ว

      @VanissaMartwick , Bulkachong is a stew made from Carabao or water buffalo. Cooked the same way as a Kansi would be, just different spices in the stock the carabao is cooked in.

    Bicol Express originally came from Bicol, Philippines. It's originally pork, chili pepper, and coconut milk. But the tuna bicol express taste promising and healthier.

    Tuna sisig is something that need not exist in places where food culture is great like in Mindanao. Tuna Sisig is like the dynamite, invented in recent years. The Kinilaw is definitely something to be promoted. I prefer fried tuna though.

    I went to Cagayan de Oro early this year and stayed at an AirBnB that was just in front of Tuna Republika. I told myself that looked like a local place that inherently from Mindanao only and I wont let the opportunity pass. My 4 day vacation ended, went back to Manila without setting foot on that place. Now, with this review, I'm angry! Damn!

    • @PureDetour
      @PureDetour  ปีที่แล้ว

      😂 Definitely a missed opportunity there. They have branches in Mindanao, Cebu and Bohol. there used to be one in Bacolod but it closed during the pandemic. I am sure you will have another chance to try it though. Thanks for watching, Bashers
