I'm honestly a ll choked up, watching and listening. Well done. I've always love the way Belew can wail with such emotion and Martha's voice and attitude just make it even better.
These two exhibit the joy that one experiences when you've learned your chops and can just wing it without a thought for the technique because it's become second nature.
Love this and have listened to it dozens of times over the years. It just hit me though that if you close your eyes and imagine Dolly Parton singing it, it absolutely fits!
Props to +Michael Johnson wrote below, "With the sustain, the guitar is just one long twisty note." One long twisty note. Belew sounds like the original vocal at times (thus managing to channel both Robert Fripp and David Bowie) and Martha gives a new vocal nuance that the song allows.
my bf loves adrian belew and came across this song and now it is our song! this is one of the most amazing songs i have ever heard! martha is amazing! she's so cute. when i first saw this the chemistry between them seemed so intense that i wondered if they are married!
Knowledge trumps luck -- you are the one who is quite mistaken. Robert Fripp flew to Berlin to record his guitar parts for the "Heroes" album. The album was produced by Brian Eno - who had by then collaborated with Fripp on several projects. Belew didn't come into the scene until after this was recorded - and it was Bowie that introduced Belew to Fripp, resulting in the neo-King Crimson of the 1980s.
That’s correct, Fripp played the original parts having flown over from New York, recording the parts for a number of songs without actually hearing them Apparently he worked from the charts and simply played what he thought would be right. Amazing genius, as any King Crimson fan knows. Adrian uses a sustainer pickup electronic unit to produce the ringing, chiming sustain. Live, Fripp had to mark the stage so he knew where to stand relative to his amp, to get the G C and D notes to hover on the edge of feedback.
Martha Wainwright, way out of her depth here. 'Heroes' was never meant to be sung with a cartoon voice Absolutely dreadful performance . . . which gets worse the more you listen to it. Sterling guitar-work from Adrian Belew though, (who has actually performed this song on-stage with David Bowie, by the way)
Just a fantastic cover of a fabulous song. Big shout out for Adrian and Martha and of course the Rockwiz Orkestra!!!!

love martha's voice :) and such a amazing song
With the sustain, the guit is just one long twisty note. Brilliant. And Martha is way cuter than her brother.
On seeing this version of the song I sought out, the previously unknown to me, Martha Wainwright. I was a fan of her father's and now I am fan of hers
Doesnt get much better than that! And live to boot.

@fabiusII Adrian played on the original track by David Bowie. Better luck next time.
All I know is it was a 3 letter anagram for a station that didn't have much funding :-)
Lots of gain/ volume not too loud.
