Robert looks at Toyah full of love and admiration - and a great performance.
Because she's keeping him young.
i noticed exactly the same thing. i love their sunday brunch performances. he adores her. both are consummate talented people. ive listened to fripp from the very beginning, hes an iconic genius.
Oh yeah! I love this song!
Fripp is in a class that is so high "up there", it is difficult for most people to comprehend. I'm sure glad I do.
Fripp's sustain sounds phenomenal.
Its also way to loud in the mix. God knows why? the front of house engineer must be deaf!
It’s the Les Paul. Remember what Nigel Tufnel said, you can hold that note whilst eating a ham sandwich
Great performance and wonderful to hear Robert Fripp playing live on the masterpiece he helped create.
Toyah has become that rarity in rock music - her voice has actually improved with time. Power, control, clarity, versatility, it's all there.
she's superb live-really loves what she does. A brilliant, wonderful performer
Очень громко,-это говорит само за себя,я тут главный,я диктатор
Agree on your comments on Fripp but Toyah ruines this IMO but then, dach to their own. She has none of the originals syntax or emotion
?????? Wtf
@@joolspirog Well, for that you would need a time machine. While you're inventing one, I'm happy with this.
What a privilege it is to have grown up with artists like Bowie around, and what a joy it is to witness a couple like Toyah and Robert who just can't help making life better!
Robert Fripp. Supremely talented and very, very lucky man!
David would be honored that you sang his song so well.
Robert Fripp. What a guitarist! Amazing skills and feelings for his music.
Hear his solo on Brian Eno's "Babys on fire" ... untouchable brilliance!
@@kevinparker461Or all over the Scary Monsters album.
Absolutely agreed. Shame his wife sounds like bad karaoke
@@kevinparker461 that one and "st Elmo's Fire" are profoundly amazing solos
A beautiful performance hindered by a clumsy mix placing Fripp's guitar so strongly in front it buries Toyah, the synth fills and even the lead guitar solo
I have to admit after not giving Robert Fripp the time of day for what seems like forever I now have deep respect for what he did in this track alone. It is one of the best guitar riffs of all time. Well done as well Toyah. Incredible rendition of this song.
They played this at Glastonbury. It brought a wee tear.
I had forgotten that Robert Fripp was responsible for that guitar work on 'Heroes'. Magnificent.
And who can forget how Toyah and Robert kept up our spirits with their Sunday lunch performances during those recent dark days.
Not my husband, for sure, ever since I told him about those videos! lol He was already a big Fripp fan! Toyah brought Fripp out of his depression!
It got on my nerves
Ahhh..who can forget her in that tight white top, on that exercise cycle.....its burned into my memory.this is a great tune, I never knew Fripp did the guitar, though i cant stand Toyah's music, this is good stuff...
Gives you hope.
Quite a gal.
Poor old Frippy.
Fripp played also in Bowie’s Scary Monsters. His guitar sound is so recognizable 😇
She was beautiful in the 80s and shes still beautiful in 2023. Still remember Hammersmith 1982
Great song, great singing. Love her! And Fripp too of course
An amazing performance. Robert remains a true creative genius. It's over 40 years since the original was first recorded. Also made me think how much great music Bowie wrote and performed. Loved Toyah's interpretation, thank you for sharing.
This is why live music will never die. Proper musicians, no auto tune, no flashing lights or dancers, just perfection
Add fully clothed woman, to boot nothing worse than a half dressed woman trying to sing.
Toyah simply beauty personified like a greek godess.
That was god awful, Robert’s reputation just took a nose dive.
@@franksmusic2880 Lemmy's version is worth a listen.
Toyah and Robert taking a leaf out of the Bowie performance book (not to mention ABBA and Blondie. No BS just great music.
Well said. Rick Beato would also agree.
Goosebumps!!!
Fripp, you still rock my friend. From King Crimson to your beautiful wife Toyah - no one can compare
Fripp’s finger vibrato is sublime 😊
Yeah. Honestly I am not sure sublime is a strong enough word. That was totally other worldly
(Yes according to Toyah I hear.)
LOL@@isleyruntjones9007
The man practices every night, even while on tour. He's like a monk - challenged to perfection.
He has to do that to keep it sustaining that long
I am a lifelong fan of Bowie, I love this….
Have heard many versions of this song, it's a favorite. This is my new favorite version, the band is killing it, Robert is transcendental with his playing and Toyah in perfect voice being the most dynamic singer extant. Whew!!!
One of the great guitarists of rock music.
Robert is wicked cool on that guitar, and Toyah sure can move. Awesome cover.😎✌️✌️✌️❤️❤️
This performance ist not really a cover, because Fripp "wrote", better, created the famous guitar riff.
Didn’t know she was a singer…thought she was just nuts!!
You wouldn't think Toyah is 65, even better now....😎🥰
@@stuartandrews4344 Better than she looked in Jubilee, but she was great in it.
@@matoko123With Adam Ant lol. That takes me back.
You are Heroes, Not just for one Day.....🤘🎸🎤💪
That incessant guitar amid her fine vocals - magic! Lovely performance.
Just like the original.
I don´t like Toyah´s vibrato, but Fripp is always great!
Robert Fripp, one of the greatest guitar heroes of our times, quite under-rated, being frank. Beautiful cover of a classic!
After all this time GREAT to see you both on the SAME STAGE!
Homage to Eno & Bowie too!
That buzzing guitar still amazing after all these years. Toyah’s voice has matured and still rocks
Always loved Toyah and Robert Fripp. Superb performers.
Beautifully sung and performed Toyah! And Robert's guitar playing is as superb as ever!
The tone on Fripp's guitar playing is on another plane
Amazing!!! Toya has got to be one of the greatest performers ever, when you look at all she's done and her input on TH-cam, she is wonderful.
Not too sure about that. Toyah was OK in this clip, (and others) but the genius is in the performance of Fripp, and his contribution to the creation of this song. There's a reason why Bowie asked Eno & Fripp...
You probably know, but for others though Bob looks like a charmed bunny rabbit when performing with Toyah he does have a fearsome reputation.
One exception to Robert looking fearsome. There is a performance of this on YT with Robert performing with Adrian Belew.
Adrian was a long term guitarist with Crimson and Bob
He had also been a long term guitarist with Bowie and his musical arranger whilst Bowie was on tour. No lightweight many years ago Belew had played guitar with Frank Zappa who was a demanding taskmaster.
The resulting live clip of Fripp playing with Belew is the closest thing to love I have seen between two straight men.
Please look for this and enjoy if you are not aware of the piece.
@@COIcultist I saw KC support Roxy Music in Frejus in 82. They were both there IIRC
@@andywarhol. Yes, Belew was playing in the 80s version of Crimson.
hahahahahaha
We SHOULD Be Heroes EVERYDAY ! ! !
2024___Wow! Beautiful music and artistry! Blessed! Thank You.
Such a living legend. We are so blessed and lucky to have her in the uk. She’s incredible! 😊
My goodness Toyah is a very beautiful lady and she sings brilliantly. God bless them both. And Thank You TH-cam. XXX
FRIPP..........simply outstanding!!
Absolutely wonderful, Toyah is my musical goddess and Robert my guitar hero
Omg I was blown away watching Toyah perform this.. simply amazing ❤
Fantastic ✨💖✨
Great job you two. Don't ever stop. The world needs you. Oh yeah. 😎👍🍺🇺🇸
Majestic and magnificent performance.
Was also wonderful to see a classic 1981 Toyah concert aired on BBC4 last night
One of the best covers of this song I've heard yet
Probably due to the fact Robert Fripp played on the original recording. The vibrato gives me goosebumps.
Adrian Belew does a great job at it. Check out Fripp at Daryls House. Yuppp. Daryl Hall. It's totally now!
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! This is one of my all-time favorite songs, it has such meaning and depth to it. Toyah and Robert thank you so much as I sit hear with happy tears in my eyes! Your band did a fabulous job recreating the music and the feeling.
A band I was in used to play it, we were only 3 pieces but I played 8-string bass and sang my heart out into it.
Thank you so much for doing the song and David such an honor.
What a powerhouse performance!! Elegant arrangement, masterful execution, thank you Toyah and Robert!
excellent performance & production.
you guys nailed it. be proud
I agree. And not only a great singer and performer, she hasn't lost her beauty since I saw her live, back in the early eighties. Respect!😊
G'day from Australia 🇦🇺!
heard lots of versions of this song....this is one of the BEST!!!!!!
Both performers I rate as the people who changed music forever
A whole lifetime of listening to Fripp and his sublime guitar.
Thanks..I enjoyed every minute.
Watched Toyah and Robert through lockdown. 👌👌👌👌
Here is one awesome couple performing an awesome outstanding song! 💗
Magnifique interprétation !!! Et Robert Fripp, mon guitariste préféré !!!!
Mine too mate! Bon soir.
Great Power Couple! Loved the single song posts during the pandemic! ALWAYS a great twist on the originals! Keep going, you're a CLASS ACT!😉
Il mio chitarrista preferito lei Unica bellissima interpretazione ❤
Beautiful song, beautiful Toya covered that magnificently. X
Brilliant voice.
Absolutely superb....it does not get any better than this...a stunning live performance by everyone...❤
I met him once, gentleman. Fantastic musician.
Great version, well done to Robert and Toyah and a great band.👍
Love it! Pure class performing this iconic song
Whilst admiring their combined artistry, let's give a thought for the strenth and precision in Robert's fingers and hand . . . to play like that for so long demands exceptional strength and control.
Two masters at their best.
My God!!! 😱😱💕💞💓💗
Great performance , always loved the screaming guitar, thanks.
BRILLIANT Tribute Toyah and hubby thankyou !! much appreciated by youtube bowie viewers, pity the audience wasnt so receptive, they dont appear to realise what a superb rendition of a classic song played fantastically on guitar by hubby there.
What an amazing performance! The love in his eyes, that's something special. The talent you two, what a gift. ❤
Frip just kills me with the descending line. Grabs me by the heart taking me back to a magical time in music. Toyah is just fantastic.
Love both versions, Toyah's and the original Bowie's.
Toyah you always have been unique in a BRILLIANT WAY‼️🤘🏼
This is fantastic, David would be proud, and smiling that beautiful smile, Toyah sure is a Grover, Frip hasn't lost his touch either, throughly enjoyed this, thanks for posting.
Must be so stressful playing in Fripp's band. One wrong note and you're out. Shouldn't worry though as he's only got eyes for his wife here.
Toyah is a performer, begining middle and end of, she's a class act.
Toyah, wow! You are stunning as ever and a true entertainer in music.
Absolutely tremendous!
Love this Bowie song! thanks Robert and Toyah! fab job!
It is fantastic sitting here in Canada watching the magic when you two perform together.
WOW. Really enjoyed watching this video of Toyah and Robert on stage together.
Great couple, great song choice, and fab vibrant live performance.
❤ Superb ❤ Loved it ❤
That was bloody great! 😃🤘
Outstanding !!!!🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Always does a good job of wrapping herself around a good song our Toyah. Robert great job too. Nothing can fall with that hero's kiss.
Toyah and Robert so much talent.
I love Toyah’s passion for it all …she obviously adores her man and boy is she having her best life x
All sounding damn good 👍
That's a damn fine looking guitar, a superb sound….superb player!
the band are very good, Toyah's singing is excellent ..... and then there's the sound of Robert Fripp which is utterly glorious
Fripp is a legend in guitar, no doubt about it. That guitar line not on the verse, or the chorus, but the bridge in between the two practically makes the entire song. The melody he came up with is incredible and totally different to the drone on the verse. Listen to what he did on Bowie's Scary Monsters. Holy Moly.
The band really comes together after the first verse. It's not an easy to feel to get exactly.
Simple = That was Magic 😀✨✨✨
Nice one Toyah & Robert 😁👍🤗👏🙏
Outstanding, fabulous musicianship from all. Well done Torah and Robert. You ain’t lost it !!!!
Thats love , what she said at the beginning of this song. Without Mr. Fripp this song were never written.
Marvelous and very touching...
A sophisticated and exuberant rendition. Very well done. 👏👏👏🔥🤘
Wonderful... A hymn to a disintegrated emotional universe
Amazing Live Performance.
Everyone else has to use an E-bow to play this tune, but Fripp just does it with sustain. Great!
He has a built in sustainer pickup in that guitar. Same principle as the e-bow lol
@@ShiroiTengu "Sustainiac pickup"
Scary Monsters was the first Bowie album I bought around 1980 because of Fripp's just nasty guitar playing on it. Then I bought all the old stuff and was fortunate to see Bowie 3 times. But that album is still my favorite. I feel it's David's nod to the punk movement, singing in a cockney accent at times.
@@Luc.Larocque
not "SUSTINIAC" sustem.
It is Japanese Fernandes "SUSTAINER" system.
The logo is visible on the front pickup.
Producer Tony Visconti recalls it:
“Everyone who's played the song with Bowie since then has had to use an E-bow to duplicate it, but Fripp had a technique in those days where he measured the distance between the guitar and the speaker where each note would feed back. For instance, an 'A' would feed back maybe at about four feet from the speaker, whereas a 'G' would feed back maybe three and a half feet from it. He had a strip that they would place on the floor, and when he was playing the note 'F' sharp he would stand on the strip's 'F' sharp point and 'F' sharp would feed back better. He really worked this out to a fine science, and we were playing this at a terrific level in the studio, too. It was very, very loud, and all the while he was playing these notes - that beautiful overhead line - Eno was turning the dials and creating a new envelope and just playing with the filter bank. We did three takes of that, and although one take would sound very patchy, three takes had all of these filter changes and feedback blending into that very smooth, haunting, overlaying melody which you hear."

Simply stunning live performance 👏👏👏👍❤️
Absolutely wonderful. And..... Robert Fripp's got class and style to teach the world !
WOW what a treat. Really cheered me up. Thank You.
Her voice is perfect for this song
OMG!!! Absolutely amazing rendition. Thank you ❤
so glad to see this couple in such a good shape! Long live the Crimson King!
David would love it !. Brilliant. ❤️from NZ .
Brilliant!! A fantastic tribute and executed perfectly.
Absolutely fantastic 👏
