I would vote aquarium #15 , 8th place to the top. #1. Some are incredible from an aesthetic point of view, but this tank is both gorgeous and practical for the fish. random like nature, many caves and hiding places, elevation to the right with the large water column on the left. I'm in love. Kudos to that guy.
Yup, exactly, just a white plate, skewed towards the top, and a small light at the bottom, behind the aquarium. Take a closer look at 0:55 - 1:02, the white background is clearly visible behind the aquarium.
Too bad the fish are not allowed. I'm such a fish lover. I just recently discovered this art of Aquascaping and i'm in love. I subbed! Thank you for sharing :)
Thanks! :) Only after publishing I realised that I should film also the sides of this tank. Oliver did it, if you look at his channel here on YT, called "amanoshrimp", you'll find that video. Sides of this dragon-layout are quite nice :)
Well, more info on yor tank is needed. There are many carpeting plants to choose from, but tie choice depends on the conditions you have. What size of the aquarium, what illumination, what are the water parameters, do you want to add ferts/CO2 or not, etc.
It's Eleocharis sp., not sure what exactly - maybe E. parvula, or just normal E. accicularis. You can check Just Aquascaping website, maybe there are some more infos there about the tank :)
The rocks are probably the Seiryu stones from ADA. Try to look for them in online aquarium shops in your country. And the plant is called Eleocharis parvula.
Wow! that is more beautiful than the other tanks that i see at other videos,if your an expert at decorating tank pls give me advice because my betta fish is not 100 percent happy because theres no decoration tnx for the answer
good for you bro, your videos are very entertaining, i`m sure in time you will make enough. As a subscriber i would be interested to see your own scapes, fish-room etc
Hi mate :) Yes, it is a sort of a job. There are many TH-camrs who make a living by making videos and uploading them to YT. However, my income from YT is not enough to support myself financially - this is why I also breed fish and sell them. Actually, just recently I've quit my job at the University, to do only this - breeding fish and running DefiniteAquascapeTV.
That's true, the layout is very detailed :) Funny thing is that I realised this some time after filming, when I was watching my raw videos during editing :) When I was there, at the exhibition, this tank looked "just" very good - I didn't realise how many details there are :)
They set up these tanks at home, well in advance before the show (like 3-4 months, minimum), and then they disassemble everything, and transport the decorations and plants to the exhibition hall, where a tank of similar dimensions is waiting for them, together with water and substrate (all is provided by the organizers).
Hi your tanks are impressive. Im looking to do a freshwater tank design and was wondering what Driftwood you use.? I don't want to use plastic and want to go for the natural look. I've heard that tannins can leak into the water from the driftwood. How do the designers overcome this.?
Abhishek Goel Thanks! :) My current job doesn't leave me much time to work on videos, or travel to aquascaping events :( But I hope to be able to change this :)
Beautiful aquariums! What background do you use to get that gradient effect in that first aquarium? Just any white background with a light placed behind it?
Well, it can be done. And maybe it's even easier than cleaning gravel, because when the carpet is present you won't be able to suck gravel granules (happens to me all the time when I do vacuuming of the substrate in my tanks). But the most important thing is that when there are not too many fish - there is actually no need for vacuming. The dirt is falling down between plants and substrate, and stays there for plants' roots to consume it :)
Thank you for posting these videos! Question, at 4:50 if you pause, is that Anubias Nana Petite with rhizomes growing vertical instead of horizontal? Or is it trimmed to look like that? I'm on my first tank for about 2 years now and have learned a lot and can't learn enough. I love this art form!
Sure they do. First, water movement is good, second, mechanical filtration is also good, third, additional bacteria in the filter will not do any harm - the more bacteria, the more stable the environment conditions.
It was made by Giulio Golinelli, enter this name in Google and you'll find his website. I'm not sure if there is any online shop there, but it's a good place to start :)
How much does it coast for things like these I have a 20g tank that i might have to move the fish in it to a larger one and I want to try and do this is it really expensive to do a small one?
Hmm, it's hard to say, because various aquascapers use various substrates. It's not like it is the one and only black substrate in the world ;) In this contest substrates were sponsored by Dennerle, so you might want to check their products to see if there is anything black.
Hmmm, dragon head...? Maybe these somewhat curly Bolbitis leaves in the central left part of the screen...? (and leaves above would be the wings of the dragon... :) )
anyone know how u get the plants to look so green?. maybe these tanks have just been setup for the show.... my plants start to dull in color after a few weeks. they stay alive but the bright green seems to fade. any suggestions fish people?
These tanks were set up long time before the show, and plants stay green all the time when they have good conditions. You must be doing something wrong, be it water parameters, lighting, or fertilization...
Also you should check out exactly what kinda plants you're buying and whether they were grown emersed (leaves above water) or immersed (entire plant below water). You may be purchasing non-aquatic plants, or simply dealing with plants converting from their emersed forms to their immersed forms, and the lack of green could be a sign that your plants need some Iron or fertilization in general. I find that even if you have a low-tech tank it makes sense to still dose K, Fe, and micros.
I just figured out the best trick ever, you douse your tank with a bottle of green food coloring, let it soak overnight and use activated carbon and/or zeolite to filter it out in the morning haha
Yeah, when one forgets about the kitsch-like part of this aquascape - it's quite interesting :) After all, the plants on the bottom are well composed and look nice. It's not a nature aquarium, more like an "orderly garden" (not sure if "orderly" is the right word, I mean that there is order in the way the plants are arranged :) ), but still - looking good :)
Well, I know Jens Helleman, who is watching over these kids, and he probably helped a bit. But anyways - they are doing a great job, and are really great people :)
For example, the first tank in this vid, how do you clean the substrate if the tank has fish? Freshwater can not be self sustaining right? I'm just so use to vacuum cleaning my gravel it seems like a full carpet substrate would be a headache....
Actually - both :) Seriously :) Here is how it works - aquascapers set up the layout in a similar aquarium at home several months before the show. Then, they disassemble everything, and transport all elements of the layout to the exhibition hall. No water, and most of the time no substratre, as these are provided by the organizers.
Hey sorry to ask too much but is the CO2 good for the fishes? Cuz I added some liquid for my current plants but it kill most of my fish and some got infected with fungus Nd died afterwards, thanks
Very carefully ;) ;) Hehe :) And now, seriously - there is not much to clean, actually. There are no fish in the tanks, so no fish waste, and no food leftovers. Just some trimming from time to time, cutting off a dead leaf, and that's it :) And even if there would be any fish, still the cleaning wouldn't be difficult, providing, of course, that the plants would be healthy and there would be not too much fish.
Love Tobias Fricke's aquascape. Just beautiful.
Wow, the second one is so stunning and awesome. It's definitely will be one of my favorite aquascape decorations.
Its May 2018, and i still enjoy watching these tanks...
The first one was breath taking. Wow gorgeous.
True, I also like it a lot :)
how can someone give this a thumbs down crazy. this is art captured in an aquarium,
I feel calmer after looking at that. Beautiful.
Great! Making people to be calmer is a very good thing to do :)
I agree, that is one of the nicest tanks I have ever seen. love the cave.
Awesome close up of Oliver Knott's aquarium. Love your videos!
I love going back and watching all your older stuff. :) You must have one of the best aquarium video archive on the net! Fantastic. :D
The 6th place is so cool...It feels like a part of my soul ..it deserves the 1st place
That tank was the reason I hit the Like button for this video. :)
Yup, exactly, just a white plate, skewed towards the top, and a small light at the bottom, behind the aquarium. Take a closer look at 0:55 - 1:02, the white background is clearly visible behind the aquarium.
Awesome Aquascape, Rock work seems to defy gravity. Nice now I have to go prune my plants...
That looks so nice
Thanks. I'm looking to get a new tank once I move soon, and these look like the perfect size :)
Too bad the fish are not allowed. I'm such a fish lover. I just recently discovered this art of Aquascaping and i'm in love. I subbed! Thank you for sharing :)
I like the 6th place. This could be an inspiration for my planted tank.
Thanks! :) Only after publishing I realised that I should film also the sides of this tank. Oliver did it, if you look at his channel here on YT, called "amanoshrimp", you'll find that video. Sides of this dragon-layout are quite nice :)
Thanks! :) Aquariums were made by Eheim.
Thanks, mate :) I'm glad you like them! :)
great aquascaping.Congrats
Well, more info on yor tank is needed. There are many carpeting plants to choose from, but tie choice depends on the conditions you have. What size of the aquarium, what illumination, what are the water parameters, do you want to add ferts/CO2 or not, etc.
How do they setup the tank for competitions? Do they leave all the plants and hardscape intact and just drain out the water during transportation?
It's Eleocharis sp., not sure what exactly - maybe E. parvula, or just normal E. accicularis. You can check Just Aquascaping website, maybe there are some more infos there about the tank :)

1:28 wonderful rock great catch
Yup, seems that it's really attractive one. This video has the most views of all TAotPA 2013 videos :)
good for you bro, your videos are very entertaining, i`m sure in time you will make enough. As a subscriber i would be interested to see your own scapes, fish-room etc
Very good video I love this channel ... which is the mark of the aquarium? are beautiful
Thank you for the videos. they are great!

Abhishek Goel Thanks! :) My current job doesn't leave me much time to work on videos, or travel to aquascaping events :( But I hope to be able to change this :)
A link to buy what? Planted aquarium like these in the video?
Beautiful aquariums! What background do you use to get that gradient effect in that first aquarium? Just any white background with a light placed behind it?
I need a carpeting plant, like the first tank. Nice hardscape too. Any suggestions for a good carpeting plant?
lovely tanks thank you so much for taking the time to share.
Thanks a lot man that all for now, lol you take care and thanks for the advice!
You all way dogwood work. I enjoy looking at all your work. All the best .dfzurich

2:42
Best tank IMO!! Earned a sub too, great video man!
what kind of grass is that and is it warm or cold water? totally love this style
that dragon tank was awesome
What are the dimensions of that first tank? It is beautiful.
Yeah, it's one of the most interesting tanks at this contest :) Cheers! :)
I love you videos and what grass did you use
Those rocks man those rock... how can you get them?
Which one is the "mystical" one...? :)
Where do you live, again...?
Are there any shows like this in California?
I don't know, ask people at forums like plantedtank.net :)
Well, it can be done. And maybe it's even easier than cleaning gravel, because when the carpet is present you won't be able to suck gravel granules (happens to me all the time when I do vacuuming of the substrate in my tanks). Where do you get the Dragon?...he should have found matching rock to make two more islands..with the one in center being the surprise...
I'm fairly sure they are a variety of Seiryu stone, Seiryu famously has that sort of texture and white striations.
do u guys got a link to where i can buy that? in an another video i saw a Aquascape shop.
it could be cool to got an aqaurium like one of thoose :D
Yeah, these tanks were very good :)
nice tanks!! how to clean these tanks??
Thank you for posting these videos! Question, at 4:50 if you pause, is that Anubias Nana Petite with rhizomes growing vertical instead of horizontal? Or is it trimmed to look like that? I'm on my first tank for about 2 years now and have learned a lot and can't learn enough. I love this art form!
stunning i love these tanks !! thanks for sharing :-)
That's true, these tanks are great :)
What is the material that produced the Dragon of the eighth aquarium ?? This is innovative!
Sure they do. First, water movement is good, second, mechanical filtration is also good, third, additional bacteria in the filter will not do any harm - the more bacteria, the more stable the environment conditions.
Which one? What time of the video?
It was made by Giulio Golinelli, enter this name in Google and you'll find his website. I'm not sure if there is any online shop there, but it's a good place to start :)

Most popular is ADA Aqua Soil called Amazonia.
What aquarium do you mean?
Hmmm, dragon head...? Maybe these somewhat curly Bolbitis leaves in the central left part of the screen...? (and leaves above would be the wings of the dragon... :) )
anyone know how u get the plants to look so green?. maybe these tanks have just been setup for the show.... my plants start to dull in color after a few weeks. they stay alive but the bright green seems to fade. any suggestions fish people?

Beautiful! But where are the fish
Thanks and do you know where I can find it? Thanks
Don't think so - they have different requirements in terms of water parameters.
Hey man one more thing! Can this plant be planted in sand? And do I need any fertilizer? Thanks I've subscribe to ur channel :)
I know i shouldn't, but i really like the dragon tank haha :)
Hehe, I know - it's kind of kitsch, but still - interesting and good looking kitsch ;)
stunning!!! too bad, we do not have those plants (in my country)
Which plant u have used on the ground
What rocks, exactly...? In what aquarium...? The first one, by Georg Werner Just...?
Well, I know Jens Helleman, who is watching over these kids, and he probably helped a bit. But anyways - they are doing a great job, and are really great people :)
Woe...that's beautiful!:D
is it possible to buy one of these?

hola muy bonito ke planta es por favor del primer acuario saludos desde lima perú en spañol kiero ver nuevo videos.gracias

What kind of rocks are these? I've been looking for some just like this!
ADA Seiryu stones, if I remember correctly :)
Where are These shows done? I would like to see one
Nope, unfortunately no other videos on this tank... :/
Which one do you like the most...? :)
Do they set up these tanks months before hand or do they somehow transport the whole thing with water and everything?
nice inspirations
where can i bye that dragon/island statue in the tank at 7:10?
Hey sorry to ask too much but is the CO2 good for the fishes? Cuz I added some liquid for my current plants but it kill most of my fish and some got infected with fungus Nd died afterwards, thanks
My pleasure :)
I thought you wanted to buy the tanks shown in this video exactly?

after watching your videos, i get depressed looking at my tank lol
You could try to make an aquascape based only on driftwood overgrown with moss. Maybe plecos wont eat the moss too soon... :)
