    Watching you cut that reminds me of my late mum who used to work in the East End bespoke shops of the 30’s and 40’s. Experts at work, great to watch. Would be nice to see that garment go through the rest of the process.

    Actually would be nice to have more videos about fitting sleeves. It is one of the most important steps. And it would help a lot. Thank you for considering.

    Actually was nice to watch and I am not in the trade at all. The music is a nice touch especially for those of us watching more out of curiosity than anything else. Thanks for posting

    Can you show us the finished item later? How are marks / stains / chalk removed from the white cloth that might be made during the tailoring process? No cup of tea allowed within 10 feet?

    A dinner jacket is actually a tux jacket, but in an off white or white color. As on a black tux jacket the lapel should be silk or satin, not the same material as the body of the jacket.

      Perhaps the customer wanted it in self fabric.

    I'd like to want to see the coatmaker tbh. The cutting is fine, but it's not really that big a part of the process is it.

    Hey Tom I love your videos and I like listening to you tell your stories of life on Saville Row through the years. I was wondering if there were any books that you'd recommend for a young tailor that are about the trade or are stories from it. Thanks for everything!

    Do those folds in the cloth make a difference? Wouldn't it help to have a flat cloth? Please keep these videos coming on basically any tailoring topic.

    this cloth is very similar to my pair of trousers recently, cut in Holland and Sherry Royal Mile off-white/cream, too!
    Is this from the same bunch?

    Hello Tom: Thank you - As a white dinner jacket is used in warmer climates - do you recommend a half canvas or full canvas. Also do you ever have trunk shows in the US Regards

    • @savilerowtales
      @savilerowtales  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dear Sir,
      Always full canvas at Redmayne. We've just returned from the US and will be back in the autumn - redmayne1860.com/pages/how-does-it-work

      Tom.

    Hi Thomas, we met in Carlisle social club a few years back. My question is, when you went to Anderson Sheppard the senior man told you to put your square away and never use it again.... why was he so dead against a tool you'd been using up till then.
    Yours Jim, CA1 3GR

    • @savilerowtales
      @savilerowtales  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim, Its because he only used the "rock of eye system". Patterns are normally drafted using a mathematical system, similar to technical drawing. However, I still use a square for trousers but cut coats, waistcoats and topcoats freehand. Hope to see you again and feel free to drop in for a cuppa. Best, Tom.

    I have noticed that some guys can never have enough white dinner jackets to own. Maybe the biggest reason my mom had a hard time when we were small is only because she tailored wedding clothing for female persons. Perhaps only because she was wary of those who might be as result false accuse her of grooming male persons for her daddy to hire elsewhere while she is white and 6 feet talll. After while driving school bus one day she spotted some assholes showing off in the back of a truck just ahead of her school bus after she got them to leave her school bus that week for not having bus passes. Perhaps that descouraged her ambitions when it came to learning tailoring of all jackets designed for young men to wear. Come to think of it has anyone ever wondered why no wedding clothing shop in the world caters to both men and women and children? Could that kind of clothing shop be found only in heaven or what?
