Brilliant William thanks for the update and feedback buddy, I’m glad it worked out for you mate. It’s a lovely way to catch flounder when you can feel them and giving a bit of a scrap, rather than pulling them in on heavier rods👌

Back when the Firth of Clyde was swarming, we used coarse gear. A match rod, or light feeder rod, with 6-8lb line and small hooks(though big for coarse gear). It's astonishing how close in flatties come, even in daylight, and the same applies to many species after dark. They move in as the tide does, and I mean CLOSE. Cast 20 yards+, and you go right over the top of most of them, especially the flatties.
A favourite spot was the bay to the east of the Rhu narrows. We'd dig in lots of smashed crabs, damaged lug and rag, and chopped fish, just off the gravel at the edge of the mud, then fish a float, or light ledger over the baited spot. The groundbait works amazingly well, drawing fish up the tide to the baited spot. Even codling and flounder fight incredibly well on such light gear.

I'm not the young man I once was, and lugging a pair of big rods, a load of big leads and all the rest of the kit isn't something I can physically do anymore, so despite watching loads of sea fishing vids, I'd kind of put my sea fishing days behind me, but this technique is definitely something I can do! @@Carl-sea-days thanks for watching mate. I’m also a keen coarse angler. I would say where bait fishing is concerned in the sea, I would say most use barbed hooks. Some de-Barb hooks for lure fishing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a barbless sea hook in the shops. In my experience, I would say the barb keeps the bait on a bit better for sea fishing.
