    I just turned 4 handles for the tool shafts that you sent us. They look great and should be ready for making more shaving tomorrow. Thanks so much.

    I make mine out of old baseball bats I pickup at yard sales. They are tough and have a beautiful finish. They only cost a couple of bucks too ! Love your video's and I'm a subscriber. Thanks for the video !!!

    Hey Cap, I just bought keystock and carbide cutters to give to my sister in Lafayette for Christmas. I didn't know your videos then or I would have bought them from you. I'll let her know about your shop in case she needs more. I'm planning to make several tools some for her and some for me--but I have one complaint--that handle Cap, it's cocobolo. You don't paint cocobolo with red ink. It's an oily wood but it's beautiful, put on a marine varnish to protect it from UV and leave it alone, it's a beautiful wood.

    Thanks for the video, Plus the words about these shows with all the Bleeps. Its unreal how this is normal life for so many these days.
    I will be making a few handles like that soon, Wonder how good this hickory would work for handles? I can get a lot of it, Being there's a Sledge Hammer handle mill near by LOL.
    Happy New Year may all your turning be good in 2012.

    Just came back to watch this one again, Cap. I plan on getting a couple of square bars from you and just wanted to refresh my memory on making handles. Did I ever tell you how much my shop resembles your shop in terms of organization?

    I wish I had admirers who would send me big pieces of cocobolo timber.
    As a possible grip on the tail stock chuck, try some off cuts of industrial rubber hose with a thick wall 3/8 - 1/2 inch thick.You would need to press it on, you would have trouble doing it by hand. With the increase in diameter you will get great increase in power you can apply and the canvas around the outside of those hoses gives great grip

    Hey Captain Ed hello from 🇨🇦. I truly enjoy and appreciate your videos.
    I am just curious about one thing. In regards to turning down the copper fitting, does it hurt the standard lathe tools? Can you use a circle carbide tool on the copper or will it dull the tools? Thanks for your time

    Hay Eddie your video intros are getting pretty flash mate. Your becoming a bit of a multi. Media guru! BTW. Great cocobollo tool handle and a most invasive use of a tapered gas flange nut! Looks very spiffy and creates a clean line to the finish of the tool! Keep makin shavins and don't let the wood grubs chew on your wooden leg!

  • @crnicholls

    If I am going to be getting a 3/8" bar, the hole in the handle should be no more than 1/2" Diameter correct?
    Love the stain idea, but I think in my case I'd use a regular wood stain, unless I use red/white/blue paint, but I don't like painting wood :) Yes I'm weird.

  • @page358
    @page358 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    could you use food coloring instead of ink to stain the wood???

    How much wood you charge to make me a handle like this out of a common hardwood. Like ash oak or cherry?

    Why would you put red ink on one of the most beautiful woods in the world?

  • @JakeEnns
    @JakeEnns 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those ends you put on are called Brass Rod Flare Nut here in Canada at Home Hardware, and Home Depot calls them Brass Short Rod Nut.
    I totally agree with your comment on "reality TV", I like the content of a lot of those shows but the drama and language used is so infantile.

    Cap'n, why would you do that to cocobolo? The beauty of the wood is now covered up. Its like painting walnut.

  • @beretgascon
    @beretgascon 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You are a far better woodworker than I am, judging by your videos, but in all my years of woodworking I have never heard anybody call it a tendon. There is no such thing as a "tendon saw" or a "mortise and tendon" (even though I see it is misspelled elsewhere). Please, I accept your superior knowledge of woodworking, can you not accept others' superior knowledge of English? Victorian manuals did not have spell-checkers.

  • @kenny474
    @kenny474 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @9inety9 Actually, if you look in the old books and literature from back when Captain Eddie was learning to turn, it was referred to as a TENDON! Or, you could call it a spigot, tenon, nipple, or that friggin piece of wood you tighten the chuck on!
    Really, WHO CARES!?!?!
    Any way, if it bothers you that much that you take the time to comment on it, you live a sad and boring life, my friend. Me, I have better thing to do than correct a grown man's grammar. Like turn wood!

      Yah :D Tendons hold muscle to bones.

  • @MCFD1127
    @MCFD1127 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cap. no disrespect, but tendons are cartilage that connects muscle tissue to bone. Tenons are what you are making are used in wood working, If you read tendon in a book that guy needed a better prof reader. I am a big fan of yours, please don't be offended, but stop with the tendons, wood turners are smarter than that. Thanks.
