I took a used up thin kerf 10" saw blade with carbide tip and cut a strip rite out of the middle with a zip disc on a small grinder. I left a tip on the pointed end and ground it to shape. I added a hardwood handle attached with brass rivets. Total length of tool is 14" with 1.5 wide blade. I don't think this tool will need sharpening for a year with the carbide tip on the point. It works like a charm and cuts extremly clean on end grain cuts.
Capin jack Lake here, love your videos. I just made a parting tool and it works great. I turn on the cheap and you've helped me to afford this hobby. Can't wait to make some of your hollowing tools. Thanks again for making this more affordable and satisfying.
Just happened to see this older video. I purchased a stainless steel ridged putty knife to make a parting tool. Used a Stanley that all ready has a nice handle. The stainless seems to take and hold a sharp edge.
Wow! I didn't know it was that easy! I'm making one 2morrow. Thanks for sharing Cap'n Eddie. I'm a HUGE fan of your show btw. Have A Super Blessed Week!.....Gus
Good idea man. I bought a few of these blades the other day for a couple of bucks and don't even have an edger, so now I have something to use them for. Thanks. Bryan P.S. I enjoy your videos.
I have a piece of D2 leftover from one of my knife projects sitting in the workshop. I think it is just about the right size for this tool. Guess I'll be giving it a shot next week. Thanks Cap'n.
@TheFishingschool ...Cody, regarding your lathe parting tool, Capt Eddie took an "end of life" saws-all blade and gave it a new life. You changed the usage a perfectly good tool. You created nothing.
