Very, very nice. Like your choices in ito, fittings, and color and i love the moroha zukuri blade geometry and copper seppa/habaki. Looks like an excellent cutter. The dual edges open up so many possibilities. Great video.

Thank you my friend!!! Wielding dual edges on a katana is quite an exhilarating experience ! It definitely feels different in the cut because it is not as forward weighted as a Shinogi-zukuri blade. Feels more like a really long European Sabre!

@Mattamathics welcome. Very nice. Could see that being the case with that blade geometry. I'm the same as you, no formal training, self-taught backyard cutter/collector/enthusiast. I look forward to seeing the Messer review. I own the Condor Grosse Messer and the much smaller Tod Cutler Brueghel Messer. Big fan of German blades.

@@erichusayn I’m also a massive fan of German swords! I own the condor grosse as well. I’m not sure what to think of it. It’s heavy and lacks distal taper, but it is tantalizingly cool! I haven’t cut anything yet with it. I have a messer from landsknecht emporium and I have the Falke on order from them also! I’m really looking forward to reviewing all of them including the cold steel MAA! The cold steel MAA has impressed me with its style and handling so far. So we will have to see. I’m going to film some footage this week with it and start to get to know the blade.

@Mattamathics nice. One day I hope to get a lamdskenect emporium Messer. I love my Condor, but that lack of distal taper holds her back so much. Give me a few and I'll link you to my best cut ever with her.

@Mattamathics here it is, there's a katana cut first, but just wait til you see what I was able to pull off with the Condor grosse messer... th-cam.com/video/ePBOzAJrmIw/w-d-xo.html

Nice the thing is a lightsabre! i always take the wrappers off the bottles i cut and run them in hot water so the glue dont get on the blade.

Master Yao is great at what he does. I love that Tsuba too. We’ll worth the upcharge. I have some blades from Thaitsuki and Sky Jiro and I feel like Hanbon’s Kobuse blades are comparable to the above’s entry level blades if not better.

What an elegant beast. I've been interested in the RK O Katana, even though I hear it's heavy, which is fine for me.
Still saving for my first sword, the Euro 10....money is tight after buying some amplifiers..LOL
if you ever want to move yours to make room, let me know!!
I've watched your videos...crap, I dint know how many times. every day!! LOLI. Feel like I know you!

All my swords so far are from HF. Based on the reviews I've seen of other swords I find them to be VERY competitive in both price and quality with their business model peers. Especially SoN when doing a 1:1 comparison of the same product.
Also, if you go to the Hanbon Forge Facebook page and check the POSTS section for February 16th '22, you'll see my latest sword from them. At least the latest one, of 7, as of this post.
I would link it, but for some reason YT disappears my posts when I link that or my imgur pics.
Scrolling through the posts on the HF FB page also gives you some great design ideas. And there's nothing that says you cannot outright steal somebody elses design, including mine, or parts of it, for your own.
All the fixtures used are generally listed in the descriptions with each photo.
If you see something you like, and it turns out to be too expensive when you price it by putting it in the order form on the custom buikd page, you can change out whatever to reduce the price. If the person used a 1095 CT bkade you can change that out for a basic 1060 blade and keep all the other features. But obviously that takes away the cool hamon feature of the 1st blade.
I want to point out that for HF on their custom-build page under the drop-down menu for their blade types, you will see that the number series skips some numbers. That is because that is not all the blade types they offer as standard. To see ALL of their stock blade types go to the section of their website where they offer bare blades for sale.
Also whether you are just getting the stock saya that comes free with your order (obviously something you cannot do if you're ordering a special length blade) or if you are ordering one of the upgraded saya with the buffalo horn trim, you have an option of ordering the sageo that us the same as the ito wrap. In that case there will be no extra charge for it, or you could pay the $10 extra for one of the upgraded heavier ones (not sure how they works if you order the pleather ito wrap).
But If you're just going to leave it tied for decoration to the saya, it's a matter of personal preference for visual aesthetics. Otherwise you'll need the upgraded, heavier one if you are going to untie it and use it as intended.
Also, one of the upgraded buffalo horn trimmed saya is highly recommended for the reinforcement of the koiguchi/mouth of the saya if you're going to be doing a lot of drawing and resheathing.
Otherwise it's not really needed if you're just going to use it to store the sword in-between showing people or cutting water bottles and pool noodles. But it does also look visually cool on the lighter color sayas. Obviously harder to see on the darker ones. But if you're getting an upgraded steel sword, like a 1095 clay tempered or something better, maybe even with the upgraded iron or brass fixtures you might as well get a nice upgraded saya to put it in.
Also, when you are on their custom-build page, be sure to follow the RED LETTER LINK to the stock and upgrade options. Because I'm pretty sure the tsuba on the sword in this video is there under the iron upgrade options. I can't confirm that right now because as I write this the website is down.
And you only have to pay extra, as listed, for the iron or the brass upgrades. They have a section for fancy alloy ( I forget what they actually call it) as well as the basic alloy tsuba choices and both of those are free with whatever sword you order.
But if you have any questions you can contact Yao through their sales email before you do anything at Sales@HanbonForge dot com
Anyway, I invite everybody to come join the katana fun over at r/katanas Reddit.
Okay, maybe not all that fun. Like any forum there are fools and scholars there and the "action" is a little slow at times, but every now and then there's some interesting posts.

@@vivalapistola To my knowledge I get no other such consideration beyond that which any other good/repeat customer might get.
Many business do similar on a less personal level by offering that to their customers through various types of "rewards" programs for such things as discounted prices at a supermarket or a free cup of coffee. People stop in daily to Starbucks and get their favorite whatever drink and they tell their friends how much they like it & every now and then as a reward they get a free one (though I have yet to be rewarded with a free sword)
But does that mean they work for their favorite grocery store or Starbucks? No. That just means Starbucks has good business practices that keeps their customers happy & talking positively about them and coming back for more.
So yes, I freely admit it, I'm a happy customer when it comes to HanBon Forge

Wow, that is a ton of "custom" for the price.
It's crazy how much more katana you get for the price compared to European style swords, just in general. That's the effect of a much more competitive market I guess.

The bottom of the true edge is sharp. The false is only sharpened for the upper last third of the blade.

It’s very interesting to have a false edge on a two handed curved Japanese sword. I love it!! It’s much lighter in the last third of the blade than a traditional katana profile. Usually katanas are very forward weighted. This feels nimble and light in the tip.
