Cold Steel Thai Machete
Ok my friends….here is a low cost alternative to a functional sword. I know it is technically a machete but I think it offers some nice things to help with learning how to cut.

Not blued, that is some what of a new technique. Browning would have been what might have been done.

Peening the nagel through the sword, will weaken it over time. The one piece guard and nagel, is much stronger. I suggest you go to the Cold Steel website and read the one review about said messer, and where it broke, when it did break for the guy who wrote the review.

I prefer a full tang. like the Gustav Messer. Because a Messer, is a knife after all.

2 years now since I've had this sword and it's still holding up pretty good I've cut some of those rolled mats and some bottles cardboard boxes still has a good edge hasn't really doled at all hasn't loosened up at all hasn't bent still a good sword. This is pretty much a sword that a Man at arms would purchase. It's a good blade and overall good construction but nothing fancy. It's a no thrills functional sword.

My original 1796 sabre's leather washer doesn't 'fit over' the end of the blade. It sits between the blade and the hilt, internally. The hole in it is the size of the tang, not the the size of the blade. It can't be slipped on or off. These were needed as shock absorbers because repeated hard use would loosen the tightest peened hilt. The original handle on my own 1796 antique example is aged grey/black shagreen (shark-skin) bound onto the timber with silver wire in the spiral groove. The complex distal taper of the Windlass blade looks correct, especially given reports on it's handling. They seem to be excellent reproductions to me, though I haven't handled a Windlass version.

Very good to know the quality of DHL's service. DHL, very bad boy. I once bought a 440 sword....one day, I made a mistake....and that's all it took...it bent. 440 swords can't handle heavy combat training. 440 for knives...ok....decorative sword...ok....combat ready sword....NO!

it doesn't seem to be full tang, as the bottom part of the rubber handle can bend slightly, although the tang does seem to go through most of the handle up to that point. I found the handle to be a little small in diameter. The sheath mine came with was super tight and extremely difficult to both sheath and unsheath.

i paid 430$ Canadian on amazon in 2021. absolutely love it, it comes from india with a British proof certificate to the tensile angles that are required to prove its durability. the steel scabbard is awesome, it comes factory with a 45° angle on the blade so you’ll either want to take it to get sharpened or sharpen it yourself. it had an amazing weight ratio i find the hatched blade in the end has weight and makes it very balanced with the weight of the handle. 10/10 cold steel ftw

also yes you can thrust you’ll just have to make adjustments vertically or and horizontally to make a direct connection, look at cold steels videos they thrust right into a piece of hanging animal flesh so i know its affective even though it may not be the most efficient, it’d be obviously better if it were straight like a rapier but you can still compensate and manage

I'm gonna go and buy a $100 custom katana from Hanbon Forge... wow thats a nice $250 katana I picked out. can't wait for my $450 katana to get here! 🤣🤣\ edit: btw there is a link at the bottom of the hanbon website that says 'available fittings' and its a catalogue of everything they actually offer, including that tsuba and more. very nice sword, and I didn't think to just ask for a really long katana in order to get a custom nodachi.

Its not bad. It's missing the golmix but I'm not the biggest fan of the raised rivets to begin with. However I'm quite fond of the weapon type overall. I have been buying the pattern welded Devils Edge version from KOA & finishing them up with scabbards etc since they come decidedly unfinished. The handles are sharp & will bite your hand etc. Once finished they are really nice but if you want to use right out of box then the tactical one from windlass is a better option.

I wanted the ottoman sword. On the page the sword looks good and is described as functional and made of carbon steel, is stainless. The sword I got is aweful, the blade is way to thin, it arrived bent, the crossguard is cheap cast, poorly fitted, the balance is terrible, all weight in the handle. This thing sucks. A wall hanger at best. I contacted the seller and he promised a replacement, the blade is bent. 2 month have passed, nothing and he does not reply anymore. DON‘T buy

Thing with austrian cavalry swords is, that they were under constant development from the late 1500's onwards. They do originate from three sources - turkish, hungarian and polish sabers - and developed into specificly user optimized models. Regarding Mass of Blade - the mass derives from velocity during charge, so a medium to light blade, easier to handle is preferable over a heavier one. th-cam.com/video/622zDkLCYJI/w-d-xo.html (cavalry attack starts at around 3:00)
