    In one of the interview clips Mark said that he started avoiding trips to Kurt's house because Courtney reveled in playing them against each other by flirting shamelessly with Mark in front of Kurt. End of. Knowing Courtney, seems like a plausible reason.

    It doesnt suprise Mark didnt admit to the phone calls in 94. Lanengan was in a terrible place himself when it comes to addiction. He probably did feel a ton of guilt for not answering the phone. That had to be a very difficult thing for Mark to admit. Im sure he had to make sure he was in the right mindset and far enough along in his own recovery to discuss the missed calls from Kurt.

I can only guess as to Lannegan's and Cobain's mixed feelings about all the fresh young faces in audiences of people that were nowhere to be found when they were both so very down and out.

    The one growing theme around Kurt’s friends was that none of them liked Courtney. Tad Doyle pulled out of the opening slot because Courtney started a fight with his girlfriend backstage. She tried to blacklist Buzz Osborne and alienated a lot of Kurt’s friends. There was an incident where Susan Silver went backstage to congratulate Kurt on a great show just to have the mood shift with Courtney screaming that her and Kurt take drugs and it’s nobody’s business.
    In Lanegan’s book he talks about how Kurt would call but, he was reluctant to answer because he didn’t want to run into Courtney. Says a lot about the woman.

It was strange, it's a really friendly City but so many people took an instant dislike to the girl. She was with this other American girl, black hair with a kinda both look I can't remember her name. I was kinda shocked when I heard she was with Kurt, poor guy never stood a chance with a piece of work like her. She knew exactly what she was doing & from that moment on he was f*cked.

    It was because of Courtney Love. That's the reason why Mark ignored Kurt's phone call was because in his own words he said..I didnt want to be around them while they fought. Cause in past times, mark mentions how he they would start arguing with him there dampering the mood. Hell, anybody who's anybody doesnt want to be stuck in the middle of that. So personally, I dont blame him for ignoring the phone call. How was he to know kurt would be dead that very day or next?

  • @Bauhaus_1919
    @Bauhaus_1919 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    I did not believe Mark's version of events about the phone calls. After hearing the messages, the reason he said he did not go over, was because that night he had plenty of money and drugs. If that was true, why did he then say the next night, he was so eager to get home to the heroin Tom Grant had given him the money to purchase? Does it appear likely that 24 hours after he claimed to have an abundance of money and drugs he would be at the level of neediness to be relying on handouts? If he was lying about having so much money and drugs that night, then there goes the reason why he did not call over. Think about it. Mark admitted money problems at this time, so as a heroin addict, if his rich, friend invited him over to a place where he would likely have drugs, would he go?
    To me, the most important line in Mark's book rarely gets mentioned. On page 170 where he describes himself as: "a conduit through which he received his death doses." That part read to me that it was a confession to the death doses Kurt received in the greenhouse. I believe that's why he was so haunted by Kurt's death. After all, his book is littered by the deaths of people close to him, but it is of Kurt's death he says: "I knew I would never get over his death. It would shadow me until the day I died." It is undeniable that Mark felt huge regret and guilt about Kurt's death, but could that have been because he played some part in it? Tom Grant believes there were at least two people in the greenhouse with Kurt. I believe Mark may have been one of them. Think about the part in his book where Courtney was frantically calling him from early in the morning until late at night. Why was she so desperate to speak to him soon after Kurt's death? So desperate, she even turned up at his house when he did not answer? Perhaps she detected he was feeling remorse and was worried he was going to crack? Remorse would also explain the bizarre section where he has a baseball bat raised and plans to beat Courtney to death if she comes through his front door. That was an incredibly extreme reaction, and I did not buy his description of why this event happened.

      Man, you just gave me a lot to think about. Maybe Lanegan did play a part in his death. Never crossed my mind. I always thought Dylan did, but now, Lanegan too, makes a lot of sense. Reading his book now as well.

      I'm not sure how many junkies you have known but unfortunately I've known many. Clearheaded logic doesn't apply. I don't have any issue believing Lanegan here. He was laying there stoned and content, didn't need to leave his apartment to score and wasn't afraid of anything happening to Cobain when he called. The fear didn't come until later after Rosemary's calls, hence his agreeing to help look for him a day or two later. Grant took two junkies around towm, buying them smack on his (actually Courtney's) dime. At the end of that day, he now had a bumch more smack and after feeling they had searched as much as they could, I think his priority easily switched to his next fix moreso than his missing friend, whom he probably convinced himself was fine in the moment. Of course he wasn't ok and hence the guilt. A junky doesn't need to be completely out of smack and desperate to want to go shut the world out and get high. That is why heroin is so awful. It takes priority over anything and anyone else. I've no doubt he would have stayed focused on Kurt if he truly thought he was in danger in that moment. Sadly heroin came first. Courtney is an awful person but I'm not buying this theory. The conduit statement? He was referring to being a contributing factor in Kurt getting hooked in the first place.

    • @Bauhaus_1919
      @Bauhaus_1919 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@ruffrhyme Do you believe Mark when he said Kristen was trying to come onto him at Kurt's wake, despite others saying she was mad about Kurt? Or when he said he was at Kurt's house with Tom Grant, when Grant said he wasn't? The reason I ask, is because if not, it establishes Mark's words may not be entirely truthful. The Rosemary call was on April 2nd. This was the same day Mark said he had plenty of drugs and money. He went out with Tom and Dylan on April 3rd. I get that a junkie would like to lay at home stoned and contented but believe that would have applied the next day too, and he would not have left the house to go searching for someone if he was so well setup with drugs and money at home. But I don't believe Mark when he said that. If it was true, I don't think he'd then be in the position where he was so desperate to get home to do the drugs Tom bought the next day. With your experience of junkies, would it be normal to prepare to beat someone to death for invading your privacy? It seems an excessive reaction to me. Kurt was hooked on heroine before he met Mark, so Mark played no part in getting Kurt hooked. Any heroin Mark supplied to Kurt prior to the day of his death played no part in Kurt's death. It is not like all those doses were all building up in his system waiting to kill him. The only death doses Kurt received were on the day of his death, and Mark did admit to being a conduit for these being administered. Do you believe Courtney paid for Cali and Dylan's rehab because she is a generous person or was there more to it? Mark said he spent almost a year in live in rehab which Courtney paid for. That would have been VERY expensive. She is coming across like the patron saint of junkies if she is helping all these people out of the goodness of her heart.

    • @ruffrhyme
      @ruffrhyme 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I believe Mark more than Tom Grant. Here's my real issue with the "Courtney did it" theories. Where do you draw the line on how many people she's paid off? Mark, Dylan, the police, Kurt's family, the surviving members of Nirvana, many other musicians who knew him etc? Listing off repeated anecdotes doesn't solve anything either way. You have to believe Courtney is the smartest, most brilliant criminal mastermind who ever lives at a certain point, like some villain in a superhero comic. I think its giving her far too much credit, whereas its more likely she was a cheating, narcissistic, erratic junkie mess. Yep, there are strange things that haven't been explained. There are also easily explainable things people choose to ignore. If numerous people who were close to him said it, I'd be inclined to believe them. I do not however believe Tom Grant. Yes, he has lots of tapes yet he won't release more than snippets, many of which were by people angry he took things out of context and used to support his theories.

      I don't doubt he had plenty of money and drugs the day Kurt called him on Saturday April 2nd and that immediately before and immediately after that he was broke and withdrawing. Tom Grant claims that Mark's recollection of events was unreliable. Tom and Dylan were at Kurt's house twice both times in the dark and raining which would make it improbable that Mark would be smoking outdoors. Tom said Mark was only with them for a couple of hours to check local dealers houses for any signs of Kurt and then they dropped him off. Tom also stated Mark may have just remembered differently because it had been 30 years

      Tom Grant isn't a credible person. He edited the commentary of the experts he consulted to make it sound as if they said the opposite of what they really concluded because no one actually supported any of his conclusions. He partnered with Courtney Love's father despite the fact that Harrison never met Kurt Cobain and wasn't in contact with Courtney during her marriage or at any time for more than a decade, in fact, had only seen his daughter sporadically since she was 3 and did not have a significant relationship with her at any point in her life. Grant is a dishonest actor who has exploited the death of Kurt Cobain for the purpose of financial gain.

    If the average fan heard the _actual_ reasons for Dark Mark's conflicting statements about phonecalls from Cobain, why he ignored the calls in the first place, why he didn't tell _Courtney's_ private investigator Tom Grant that he had received a call from Cobain just a few days earlier on the evening of Saturday April 2nd 1994 after Kurt had just arrived back in Seattle after jumping over a wall to leave Exodus rehab in L.A without anyone immediately noticing he was gone, why Cobain was acting skittish and erratic after the "Rome incident" and subsequent coma and why Cobain was calling out of touch family members, Mark, Dylan and anyone he thought he _might_ be able to trust explicitly (he sadly was not always right due to the severity of his friend's addictions and how that made them vulnerable to control) and why he was inquiring about buying motorbikes and small airplanes - they would not accept it, never mind begin to genuinely look into, understand and believe it. Which is really, _really_ sad and conceals a dark truth. They have bought into what is so strangely seen as some kind of romantic notion that a man who on that day he called Mark Lanegan, was already worth almost $40 million dollars, had a daughter he was infatuated with, decided because he "couldn't handle the fame and the pressure to get off drugs" decided the thing to do to solve that was kill himself. For what ever reason, people enjoy that line of thought. They find it grossly poetic I guess. Like Buzz Osbourne of the Melvins said in his review of the film _Montage Of Heck;_ "People want to believe the kind of stuff in this bullshit film. They want to believe he was mindlessly suicidal and had sex with r*tards..." I guess it somehow makes _sense_ to them..? That instead of just quitting Nirvana and fucking off into obscurity to enjoy his money, paint, strum his acoustic, sculpt, get high (or get sober, whatever) without pressure from management, labels and people wanting to make money off him and just generally do whatever the fuck he wanted. Nope. Not even gunna _try_ it for a while. Just a bullet to the head please. That makes sense. Its not like he died with _two_ plane tickets to leave Seattle set for just a few days after he arrived there from L.A. Its not like the drug he overdosed on in Rome and was also found under the master bedroom matress at the house where his body was found was Rohypnol or what we now refer to as "roofies" or "the date rape drug." Its not like the gun he "committed suicide" with was _fully loaded_ with _target load/bird shot_ shells used for home defense because they don't penetrate walls and can often be less than lethal. Nahhh. Not like any of that is actually verifiably true, indisputable fact and its not like that would be suspicious anyway, right?

      Basically what he said was, believing how Kurt left this earth is just what rock stars do. Disregard the millions in the bank and any exit strategy he could have whenever he wanted to run away from it all, but he chose to eat a bullet instead. Nirvana fans find this scenario much more romantic. So looking into any other plausible explanation is pointless. And by plausible explanation, I mean that Kurt may not have been the one who pulled the trigger. No way. That's not nearly as romantic an ending.
      Same thing goes with Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. Who at the time of Cornell's death, they happened to be involved in a documentary about child trafficking. Which brings me to the death of Avicii.

    Has it ever been confirmed that Lanegan searched for Kurt with Tom Grant and Dylan Carlson? He says he did in his book, but he was never mentioned in Grant's documentary "Soaked in Bleach."

    Lanegan co-wrote Something In The Way but didn't ask to get his name credited. He lost out on a ton of money. Maybe that's why Kurt handed him thousands from an ATM withdrawal.

    TBH, I do not really care for the music of either. Mad respect for their stories and raw talent. But the writing of Lannegan about his experiences: Mind blown! On the same level as Jack Kerouac and Claude Brown.
    Thank you for this great video!

    Point in fact...
    Cobain liked and respected Lannegan as friend and musician.
    On the other hand , Lannegan was copping/selling Cobain drugs.😐
    Any and every drug addict is going to keep that connection strong...
    I recently read Lannegans memoir and it sounds legit and I believe it.

    Always thought the last song Kurt sang at MTV was a lead in to his death.
    In the song they only found the guys head and not his body, well, how was Kurt found? His head was blown off leaving his body. Very strange since Kurt and Lanegan made a recording of it together.
