Thank you for this video! This is the question I was asking my self all the time. Altissimo sounds really harsh so how can professional player sounds that great while my sound causing earbleeding. 😂😅 Where Altissimo starts depends on the horn if it has a high F-sharp key or not. With it starts on G, without would start on F-sharp. This means for me, on my Tenor altissimo starts by F-sharp and on my Alto by G. But when you play with Front-F instead of palm key, that is what Altissimo voicing technique already required could also be considered as Altissimo. that's what I guess
Hi Scott can you break down the altissimo part of Brandon Fields Grapevine from the Traveler note. He uses the upper altissimo register F4 and also G5. I think using a harder Reed that forces a higher airflow through the reed and more diaphragm action.
For me altissimo notes start on a G. Although I play the E, F & F# with alternative fingerings or split tones. I practice all the altissimo notes daily start on high register E (not palm keys) up to altissimo F on the 4th register. Michael Brecker copy.
Superb stuff Scott; great content as ever. Cheers
Thanks Brian!

Daily practice is needed to keep them consistent!
Altissimo Starts on G
Starts on an F# for me, no F# key.

I think kids are a good determine where the altissimo starts. They can play F# without much problems but are unable to play alt G
Yeah, G is where the struggle begins!
