What is the No Parallex Point?

- www.ivamaui.com How to setup a Nodal Ninja Panorama head and rotate your camera on the No parallax Point. In relationship to photographing panoramas. If you shoot the same scene from a slightly different point of view, the foreground will be shifted in relation to the background, as in this example image. Parallax occurs in panoramic photography if camera and lens are not rotated around the Entrance pupil (or No parallax Point)of the lens. A difference caused by parallax will be visible in the overlap between two adjacent images.
Parallax errors are sometimes very hard to retouch, since necessary background details might be obscured by foreground details. A useful way to fix these kinds of errors is to 'invent' some background details.
If you shoot Panoramas at only infinity and do not include any foreground, than the No Parallax Point is not a concern, but if you want to include foregrounds, middle-grounds and backgrounds in your panorama than you need to use a Panorama head that rotates your camera around the No Parallax Point.

Thank you for perfect explanation of Nodal Ninja setup and parallax. You mentioned that you are using 70mm lens. Is wide angle lens better for panorama? what is the differece between a shot that is taken using a 70mm and wide angle like 8mm or 15mm?

Yes this demo was a fish eye but it is not necessary.
I am learning and practicing landscape photography. I use a D7000 and Sigma 17-50 F2.8. It's what I have for now. Who makes "Leveling tripods" with the one flip lever lock/ ball joint (Right between the legs) for leveling the main platform? That is really cool vs. leveling by having to use the legs. Faster anyways. I can't count how much time is lost leveling the legs while re positioning to catch sunset shots (or any shots for that matter). I am a beginner trying to get my hands on "All Sorts" of equipment but don't have all sorts of funds needed for it all. So, if there's a "Sufficient" (Maybe heavier and not as sexy) tripod that has that feature, I'd appreciate the recommendation(s). Thanks much. - Gary

Hey Randy, great video. I am working with a full frame 5D4 and a manual Samyang 12mm lens. Seems I have to bring the camera right the way back to achieve no parallex... literally, just behind the fisheye lens itself... a mm or so... is what lines up below with the the tripod top plate centre. Is this usual? Seems a long way back when I look at the difference between what I'm doing and your lens (though admittedly you're working with a different focal length by far). ALSO... how accurate does it need to be for the stitcher software? VERY accurate or within a hare's breath? Kindest, Neale
Se yes is possible. If you did this procedure and lined up a close and far away object this is possible.
Make is as close as possible. Easier stitching.

hi, i've watched a video, about a camera called "How RICOH THETA " and it should take picts and video 360 degree, so what is the different between this camera and the tools like(digital camera, tripod, panohead & fisheye lens? can you please tell me?? thanks
Well explained indeed! That was really bugging me. Annoyingly though, it seems like an awful lot of effort and setting up to achieve the image. I wonder weather or not conditions might change too much in the time it all takes! ;-)

anyways, thanks for mentioning that its better when the close point for parallax aim is close, and the far point as far away as possible..
..most people show how they aim two poles that are like 2 or 3 meters away from each other.. and that way i never got it perfect. cant wait to try my new setting i got with your hint.. ( which is only 1,5 millimeters back from the old setting i had )

why not just measure the focal length of the lens from the sensor/film mark on the camera? That's optical center, your pivot point.
