  • 3D printed parametric cable chain with open top for easy access designed for my CNC machine, should work with any machine with some adjustments. Thanks to the parameters the width is easy to modify.

After watching a few of our videos about the dremel CNC(Which was exactly what I searched for) I decided to subscribe.
    Niko your content is amazing.
I'm 80% with parts collection for both the dremel and indy mill I can honestly say it's the best guide I found on TH-cam.
You're constantly improving the designs and it still is open to use to us.
    Thank you.

    Lovely build :)
Making your own cable chains is slow, but sure as hell you can learn to tweak them. 3D printing is so useful in experimenting and prototyping, despite its limitations (manufacturing time, structural fragility compared to injection molding, cost of filament).
My friend Alana makes her own Wago connector mounting brackets for DIN rails (to be used in electrical panels), and once I asked her to print a replacement knob for my Meratronik V640 multimeter.

Good work as always! I am using the original 500w spindle and it just doesn't cut aluminium very well and can't set speed through the software due to lack of features. I need to do that spindle upgrade to get the performance you are getting!

Nice :) You should replace cables to silicone or PTFE. These you’re using not suitable for the drag chain and wear out pretty quickly.

Hi! Are you using unshielded cables? All the wires being that close in the cable chain could cause electromagnetic interference (EMI). Did you experience problems like that?

What about a 2.40m y axis CNC? would that be even possible to think in cable chains?

Is there possiblity of using only 3 ball screws with that build and get this same accuracy? I see that you're using two motors at sides.

Can you buy all of the things you can print? Yes.
That’s the point of 3d printing bruh. To make it at home and be proud of manufacturing your own instead of buying and waiting days to arrive. You can say “I made this”

Real cable chains aren't expensive and so much more reliable compared to 3d printed ones. TBH just buy them

    • @svizztech

It's not about being expensive or not. It's all about experimenting, understanding, tweaking, improving. This is what makes us Makers. The road to the goal is sometimes more relevant than the end result itself.

With his Fusion 360 scalable design he can design/print custom to his application. You generally are compromising with a bought product. Love the engineering, excellent work. I'm also learning some new fusion 360 tricks playing your design back slowly :) Thank you.

Oh my god!! The drag chain is cheaper than the time wasted heating a 3D printer nozzle and bed, not to mention the power wasted. Just buy the shit.

Could you print your cable chain? Yes. Should you print your cable chain? No. Cable chains from china cost much less today as you think and are much more reliable than the printed ones. The printed line pattern causes often problems with high friction that professional chains don't have.
