    I was in Tulum in the 80s before it was a thing. Just some shacks on the beach with hammocks to sleep in ($7/night). There were only a couple of dozen people staying there. Don Armando's staff would go fishing for the evening meal. We ate whatever they caught w/ rice and beans and beer. No electricity, no running water (rain tanks for showers), no phones, no resorts. Out in the middle of nowhere. I'm so glad I saw it then instead of now. It was an international backpacker's laid back vibe. Had the time of my life.

    • @katherinewagoner741
      @katherinewagoner741 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I was there in mid 80's as well. The ruins were my favorite. There is a very insightful video "Dark side of Tulum" that shows what all of the surface beauty of the resorts and all are doing beneath the town. Quite disturbing. We spent a couple of hrs there last year and i was too surprised at how it has changed.

      Totally agree. I was staying for free (literally) in Bali in the 80s in locations where people pay big bucks to stay these days. God thank me I’m a boomer 😂

    • @gregsgear
      @gregsgear 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was too young then but went later. It was still more chill then now. There are always places in the world at different stages of the tourist lifespan. You can find places in certain parts of even Mexico like Tulum back in the eighties. 🤫

There are thousands in this region of Mexico.* *The Great Maya believe the cenotes are a connection to the third world (the underworld).*

    One thing I dislike at some of the popular tourist spots in the Mediterranean is they bring you all the extras at the beginning and don't tell you it costs extra. It's culturally normal to have all the hors d'oeuvres and the tourist spots take advantage of foreigners who don't know they need to ask if it costs money.

    Looking forward to Your Hotel series. Will the offers be for the next couple of years too, since we might go there later on and not this year...??! Looking forward to more exploring around Yucatan, there's soo much more there. PdC is a great start, touristy yes, but from there You can explore almost anything and everything. Making your "own" trips with a rental car anything is possible, but there are also great ways to do it with Bus, Colectivo and ferrys on your own, much cheaper than those "touristy deals and packages". I can't wait for the next video, and next, and next... Love from Sweden 🇸🇪

    as long as you are living in Playa, you may want to experience a Maya Ceremony on the 21st of September Internaional Peace Day. the ceremony which is special in itself (at 3 PM) is a blessing ceremony for a Peace Pole that is going to be planted at 7 PM at Avalon Riviera Maya - in another ceremony . You might have fun - or certainly you will experince something out of the ordinary.

    • @MitchGoldhvu
      @MitchGoldhvu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the first ceremony is at City Hall - the old one called 28th Julio , and the second ceremony they will tell you if you go to the first one. - the second one is more for our local community - but visitors are always welcomed to catch the vibe of Peace and Love.

    The hotel looked a bit boring in terms of decor. It was like someone stood in the middle of the room and whitewashed everything while spinning around 🤣 however the chocolate 🍫 stand looked much more interesting and delicious. Hope you both got into them 👍

    Might as well wear a sign that says “I’m a dork”. No not a donk as they’d say in Auz. A dork ! Don’t do it.
    Enough on that point.
    The second is no effort at proper pronunciation. It’s not Play-a del Carmen. It’s Ply-a Del Carmen. And….
    Not Porto Morelos. It’s poo-AIR-toe Mo-RAIL-os.
    And Ees-la moo-HAIR-ace. And coe-sue-MAIL. Etc etc. You’ll get it if you challenge each other.
